Nissan Magnite achieves 5-star Global NCAP safety rating
The India-made Nissan Magnite has secured a five-star safety rating for adult occupants and three stars for child occupants in the latest round of Global NCAP crash. This achievement makes the Magnite the first vehicle in South Africa to attain a five-star rating under the current Global NCAP testing protocols.
Initially, the Magnite was equipped with just two airbags had received a modest two-star rating for both adult and child occupant protection. However, Nissan voluntarily re-submitted the model for testing after implementing a comprehensive suite of safety enhancements. These included: Six airbags
Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
Enhanced pedestrian protection
Improved seatbelt restraint systems
3-point seatbelts for all seats
The initial round of improvements helped the Magnite secure a four-star rating, but Nissan went further, introducing additional upgrades that resulted in the car achieving a full five-star rating for adult occupant protection in a second voluntary crash test. Test results breakdown
Adult Occupant Protection: 32.31/34.00 – 5-star
Child Occupant Protection: 33.64/49.00 – 3-star
Bodyshell Integrity (Frontal Test): Stable
Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier: 15.307 points
Side Movable Deformable Barrier: 16.000 points
These results reflect robust performance in both frontal and side impact tests, supported by standard ESC and improved structural integrity.
The Nissan Magnite facelift is offered with two engine options: a 1.0-litre B4D naturally aspirated petrol engine that delivers 72bhp and 96Nm of torque, and a more powerful 1.0-litre HRA0 turbo-petrol engine producing 99bhp and 160Nm. Electric vehicle giant Tesla has leased a 33,000-square-foot space in a commercial building in Gurugram, Haryana, which is expected to serve as a service centre and sales outlet, according to real estate data analytics firm CRE Matrix. CRE Matrix reviewed the registration documents related to the leasing transaction to confirm the development. The Elon Musk-led company has registered a 9-year lease for the unit in Gurugram's Orchid Business Park. Tesla's First Showroom In Mumbai Tesla, which has already opened a showroom in Mumbai and is set to follow up with a second one in New Delhi soon, will be paying a starting rent of Rs 40 lakh for the Gurugram property, it said. There is a clause in the agreement under which the rent will escalate by 4.75 per cent per annum. The chargeable area is 33,475 sq ft, while the super-built up area of the property is 50,914 sq ft, it said, adding that there is a 3-year lock-in. The space can be used as a 'service centre, delivery centre and retail store', the property consultant said. Tesla Property Lease The property has been leased from Garwal Property, and the lease was registered on July 28, as per the statement. The lease commencement date is set as July 15, and the rental starts immediately, it said. Tesla made its India retail debut last month with a store in the Bandra Kurla Complex business district in suburban Mumbai. Mahindra CEO backs India's trade stance amid ongoing US tariff tensions
Mahindra Group CEO and MD Anish Shah has expressed confidence in the government's handling of trade talks with the US, saying he was hopeful of a strong and positive outcome for the country from the dialogue. With just a day left before his 25 per cent reciprocal trade tariffs take effect, US President Donald Trump is doubling down on his threat to impose even higher duties on India, accusing it of funding Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine through continued purchases of Russian oil. "For us, it is not very material," he said on the impact of US tariffs on the Mahindra group," said Shah in an interview with PTI Videos. Shah, who leads the USD 25 billion SUVs-to-software conglomerate, said the Indian government has always kept the overall interest of the country in mind and operated in a way that could get a good solution. Indian officials continue to negotiate with the US for a bilateral trade deal by October/November and see the higher duties on the country's exports to the US as a temporary measure until such a pact is nailed. US tariffs are a lesser worry compared to geopolitical upheaval witnessed in the last few years that worried India Inc "a lot" more, Shah said. "Based on everything I've seen, our government do, they've always kept the overall interest of India in mind and operated in a way where they can get good solutions. So, I have full confidence that this will be resolved and it will settle down to something that will be a very strong outcome, strong positive outcome," he said. "I have a lot of confidence, and I'm really not too worried about it," he said. "There are multiple other things on the geopolitical front over the last few years that we worried about a lot. I would not put this in that." First semiconductor shortage and now restrictions on rare earth magnets are the geopolitical challenges he was referring to. Shah asserted that the overall relationships between India and the US, "are very strong, and everything will continue to be so". He cited the example of the recently signed India-UK FTA as an example of how the government "has done a really nice job." The FTA balances "a large number of things," enabling Indian companies to export a lot more to the UK across multiple sectors while also opening up the domestic market to products from Britain. While Trump calls India among the world's most protectionist countries, the Commerce Ministry last week reiterated that New Delhi was committed to a "fair, balanced and mutually beneficial deal," but that it will also "secure" its "national interest." On Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that India was being unfairly singled out for its Russian oil purchases, pointing out that both the US and the European Union continue to trade with Moscow despite the ongoing war in Ukraine.
