As audiences finally experienced the film, reactions began flooding social media, with impressions ranging from enthusiastic praise to pointed criticism. A Divided Audience: Visual Grandeur and Emotional Core Praised A portion of the viewership has emerged impressed by the film's presentation, storytelling approach, and performances. Fans appreciated the deliberate shift away from overcomplicated storylines, instead embracing a clearer, emotionally driven plotline. The chemistry between the leads—Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn—was a particular favorite, with many pointing out how the family dynamics grounded the cosmic elements of the film. — theprimetimeman (@theprimetimeman) — DevskiTweets (@DevskiTweets) Additionally, the film's score by Michael Giacchino was applauded for its sweeping scope and cinematic flair, although not all viewers were equally moved by the music. Set design evoked comparisons to classic animated shows like The Jetsons, with a playful and ambitious execution of future-meets-past world-building. Viewers also appreciated that the protagonists often relied on intellect and innovation, rather than brute strength, to overcome their challenges—a fresh take within a universe known for its action-heavy sequences. Concerns Over Pacing, Casting, and Familiar Pitfalls Despite these strengths, the film has not escaped criticism. A significant number of fans and critics expressed disappointment in areas they felt fell short of expectations. One of the most frequent critiques was about pacing—several felt the film dragged in sections or failed to maintain a steady rhythm throughout its runtime. — SJTimes13 (@SJTimes13) — VexElectronica (@VexElectronica) Another common concern centered on characterization and casting choices. While some applauded the performers' efforts, others described the character portrayals as lacking depth or chemistry. A few critics found the performances underwhelming, suggesting that the cast felt misaligned with their iconic roles. There were also mixed feelings about the film's visual effects. While space scenes and cosmic vistas drew admiration, certain moments were noted to appear visually inconsistent, with some CGI elements described as underdeveloped or subpar. While Giacchino's musical compositions resonated with many, others found the score didn't live up to their expectations and felt it fell flat in key emotional scenes. Another significant area of concern was the film's climax and narrative resolution. Several viewers described the conclusion as uninspired or too familiar, following a template seen too often in other MCU films. The villainous threat, though ominous, was perceived by some as insufficiently developed, reducing its impact on the story's tension and emotional stakes. Production Background and Film Overview The Fantastic Four: First Steps serves as the 37th entry in the sprawling MCU timeline and represents the second major reboot of the beloved Fantastic Four series. Helmed by director Matt Shakman, the film features a screenplay shaped by Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer. Marvel Studios produced the film, with distribution handled by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The cast brings together some notable talents—Pedro Pascal assumes the role of Reed Richards, while Vanessa Kirby steps in as Sue Storm. They are joined by Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm. Supporting roles include Julia Garner, Sarah Niles, Mark Gatiss, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ralph Ineson, who portrays the looming cosmic antagonist Galactus. Set in a world steeped in retro-futurism inspired by the 1960s, the story centers on the Fantastic Four as they confront Galactus, a powerful being with the ability to consume entire planets. The team must combine their intellect and unity to protect their uniquely stylized world from annihilation.

Robert Downey Jr returns as Doctor Doom in Marvel's Fantastic Four post-credits scene

Marvel's First Family has officially landed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But it's who arrives after the credits roll that's turning heads. The Fantastic Four : First Steps, which opens wide Friday, introduces audiences to Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) in a retrofuturistic, alternate-Earth story. The film marks the kickoff of Marvel's Phase 6 and teases the beginning of its next big bad: Doctor Doom. It's four years after the team's climactic showdown with Galactus. Sue Storm is reading to her young son, Franklin Richards. As she steps away to grab another book, something feels off. When she returns, she finds a mysterious cloaked figure beside Franklin holding a metallic mask. Marvel veterans didn't need a face reveal as the green cloak said it all. Doctor Doom has entered the MCU This marks the character's first formal appearance in Marvel Studios ' continuity, and his entrance is a personal one, not with armies or threats, but a silent encounter with a child who might be one of the most powerful beings in the multiverse. Live Events Fans of the comics will know Franklin Richards is no ordinary kid. Born to cosmic-powered parents, Franklin has been known to reshape reality itself. Which may explain Doom's interest. The arrival of Doom also signals a major pivot. Originally, Kang the Conqueror was slated to be the saga's central threat. But after actor Jonathan Majors was convicted in 2023, Marvel shifted focus, choosing to introduce Doom as the looming force behind the upcoming multiversal saga. In a bold casting choice, Robert Downey Jr ., once Iron Man himself, now returns to the franchise, not as a hero, but as Victor Von Doom. Vanessa Kirby recently praised Downey's transformation: 'It's some of the most amazing work I've seen. He lifts everyone around him.' Joseph Quinn echoed that sentiment, calling Downey 'deep, kind, and a real leader on set.' Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for December 18, 2026, is already filming in the UK under Joe and Anthony Russo. Kevin Feige recently confirmed that the film is being rewritten and refined daily. Before Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel will debut Wonder Man on Disney+ in December and release Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July 2026.

'Star Wars' creator George Lucas to make Comic-Con debut

Comic-Con kicked off Thursday in California, with expectations running high among devoted fans keen to catch a glimpse of George Lucas at his first-ever appearance at the convention. Warriors, princesses, pirates, wizards, and all manner of costumed characters flooded the streets of San Diego on the first day of an annual event that has become one of the world's biggest celebrations of pop culture. "I waited for this the entire year," said 17-year-old Samantha, who came dressed as the pink Dino Ranger. "It's like Christmas for me!" added the young woman, who had traveled from Florida specifically to see panels for the shows "Miraculous" and "Hazbin Hotel." Other fans couldn't wait to enter the exhibition hall to hunt for memorabilia. George Lucas' First Appearance Comic-Con began holding events in San Diego in 1970, as a low-key and rather niche huddle, but has now grown to an annual get-together that attracts 130,000 people eager to hear behind-the-scenes tidbits from Hollywood stars and from directors unveiling their latest projects. This year's edition will be marked by the presence of legendary filmmaker Lucas, who has never visited the convention before despite Comic-Con culture being deeply rooted in his "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" franchises. In a session on Sunday set to be moderated by Queen Latifah, Lucas will discuss the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art with Mexican director Guillermo del Toro and Oscar-winning artist Doug Chiang, who has shaped the iconic "Star Wars" universe for decades. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The museum, scheduled to open in Los Angeles next year, will be dedicated to illustrated narratives and will house the Lucas archive. "Nearly five decades ago, Star Wars made one of its earliest public appearances at our convention, along with a booth featuring (comic book artist) Howard Chaykin's now legendary Star Wars poster as a promotional item," said David Glanzer, Chief Communications and Strategy Officer. "Now, to have Mr. Lucas... is a true full-circle moment. His lifelong dedication to visual storytelling and world-building resonates deeply with us and our community." Alien, Predator, and the End of the World Marvel Studios will have a smaller presence at the convention this year, skipping its eagerly awaited annual presentation in Hall H. According to Variety, changes to the premiere of the new "Avengers" installment complicated logistics for the studio, whose cast is currently filming in Britain. But the absence didn't discourage fans who filled the coveted Hall H for its first panel with the cast of Disney's "Percy Jackson and the Olympians." With a sneak peek at the second season, which arrives in December, and news about cast additions for the confirmed third season, the panel moderated by comedian Timothy Simons delighted the massive audience. "Season two is epic," said executive producer Dan Shotz. "We are fighting incredible monsters. It is so massive and we cannot wait for you guys to see it." Author Rick Riordan announced via video that the third season, based on the third book in his series, will feature Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie playing siblings Nico and Bianca di Angelo, children of Hades. Hall H on Friday will host the world premiere of the pilot episode of the prequel "Alien: Earth," directed by Noah Hawley and slated to hit streaming platforms in August. The series takes place a couple of years before the events depicted in Ridley Scott's 1979 film "Alien," offering an expansion of the venerated franchise. Another fan favorite that will have its moment in the spotlight is "Predator: Badlands," with a panel Friday set to include director Dan Trachtenberg, who revitalized the brand with "Prey" (2022). On Saturday, award-winning actor Ryan Gosling and directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (behind the new "Spider-Verse" trilogy) will present their "Project Hail Mary," which is due in theaters next year. The film, based on the book by Andy Weir ("The Martian"), follows Ryland Grace (Gosling), a former science teacher who wakes up on a spaceship to discover he's on a mission to save the Earth. Comic-Con runs until Sunday, July 27.
