
Mahavatar Narsimha All Set To Enter Rs 200-Crore Club After Independence Day
Ashwin Kumar's directorial Mahavatar Narsimha has been constantly garnering praise for its quietly confident and emotionally compelling plot. After performing well on its first twenty-one days at the box office, the animated epic puranic action movie soared higher on its third Friday after opening in the theatres on July 25.
Mahavatar Narsimha earned an estimated Rs 7.25 crore at the domestic market on the 79th Independence Day, as per Sacnilk. Despite facing tough competition with War 2, Coolie and others, the animated movie's collection increased by approximately 178.85% on Day 22.
Mahavatar Narsimha Stands At Rs 195.60 Crore On Day 22
After totalling the previous collections, the 131-minute film has thus been standing at a huge amount of Rs 195.60 crore. FYI: It collected Rs 44.75 crore on Week 1, Rs 73.4 crore on Week 2 and Rs 70.2 crore on Week 3, before making a grand entry to Week 4 with the 79th Independence Day collection.
Mahavatar Narsimha's Huge Occupancy On 79th Independence Day
Presented by Hombale Films, Mahavatar Narsimha had an overall 73.69% Telugu Occupancy on Friday, with the maximum collection during the afternoon shows of about 87.81%. This was followed by Night Shows occupancy at 84.05%, Evening Shows at 71.76% and Morning Shows of about 51.15% even on Day 22 from its release. Meanwhile, the film directed by Ashwin Kumar saw an overall 77.85% Hindi Occupancy on August 15.
The animated movie was released in 2D and 3D formats amid low buzz and intense competition. But it surprised everyone with its staggering box office collection, fueled by just positive word of mouth. After a fantastic opening, Mahavatar Narsimha led to a solid dominance of animated movies in India. Given the thunderous response, Hombale have already announced the upcoming list of Mahavatar Cinematic Universe movies over a span of two years.
Mahavatar Narsimha's Plot
Produced by Kleem Productions, Mahavatar Narsimha is based on the 4th avatar of Lord Vishnu. Going as per the epic tale, Hiranyakashyap, a demon, once challenged Lord Vishnu, proclaiming himself a god. Meanwhile, the former's son, Prahlad, was seen as immensely devoted to Lord Vishnu. But shaken by his father's torture of the masses and all those devotees, Lord Vishnu appears as Narsimha, a man-lion, to defeat the demon.

Coolie Worldwide Box Office Collection: After a record-breaking opening at the global market, superstar Rajinikanth's Coolie has minted a massive ₹ 245 crore in two days at the worldwide box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, as much as ₹ 103.25 crore of its global collection is credited from the overseas market. Coolie has grossed ₹ 141.75 crore from the domestic market. On its opening day, Coolie became the 'highest ever' opening grosser for a Tamil movie, with a collection of ₹ 153 crore. The Australian Telugu Films Association said that the Rajinikanth movie has grossed over $1.2 million (approximately ₹ 12 lakh) in Australia and New Zealand alone since its release on Thursday, August 14. In an X post, Hamsini Entertainment claimed that Coolie has grossed over ₹ 115 crore from the overseas market, which includes the US, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Coolie's Day 3 global earnings will be published tomorrow, Sunday. Coolie is very close to hitting the ₹ 150 crore milestone at the Indian box office. According to Sacnilk's early estimates, the Rajinikanth movie minted ₹ 24.29 crore on Saturday, August 16. However, the movie has hit a slump after its record-breaking opening and has witnessed a decline in its earnings since. With this, Coolie's 3-day total now stands at ₹ 144.04 crore. The total earnings will be revised later in the evening, once the figures for the night show are declared. Rajinikanth's Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, stars Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, and Monisha Blessy. Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is also a part of the film in a cameo role as Daaha. Coolie was released as Rajinikanth celebrated 50 years in cinema. The censor board gave the movie an A (Adults-only) certificate. This is Rajinikanth's first A-rated film in many years.

Sea of devotees flocks to Mathura to celebrate Janmashtami
Agency: PTI Mathura/Varanasi (UP), Aug 16 (PTI) Lakhs of devotees from across the world gathered in Mathura on Saturday to celebrate Janmasthami, with pilgrims queuing up since early morning to catch a glimpse of the deity in the birth place of Lord Krishna. Janmashtami was celebrated with great pomp throughout the Braj region, but the main ceremony was held at the Radha Krishna temple within the Bhagwat Bhavan complex here. Officials said the enthusiasm was palpable as devotees sought to catch a glimpse of 'thakur' (god), with queues forming as early as late Friday night at the northern gate of the temple. The eagerness of the crowd persisted late into the night, as the celebrations headed for a climax. The city and the municipal administrations transformed Mathura for the occasion, as roads and crossings were specially decorated, with scenes from 'Krishna Leela' set up as selfie points. Various cultural events hosted folk artistes from different parts of India, showcasing Awadhi, Bundelkhandi, Rajasthani and Haryanvi traditions through their art. Food, water and 'sherbet' were distributed free of cost to the pilgrims at multiple locations. To ensure the safety of the devotees, the city and the temple premises were divided into four zones and 18 sectors, with heavy police deployment at every point, the officials said. Janmashtami was was also celebrated with special rituals in Varanasi. According to the officials of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, clothes and gifts were sent from here to the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura for the occasion.
