M60 traffic: Warning for anyone heading to major UK airport as EIGHT lorries & cars crash with motorway completely shut

The Sun5 days ago
PASSENGERS have been issued an urgent warning if they're heading to a major UK airport today.
It comes as the M60 in Greater Manchester has been closed in both directions following a multi-vehicle crash involving four lorries and four cars.
The smash saw nine people injured and beer barrels strewn across the road.
National Highways posted the warning on X, which read: "#M60 both directions between J25 and J1 near Stockport#Bredbury#GreaterManchester ROAD CLOSED Due to a multi-vehicle collision, spillage, shed load and infrastructure damage. Be aware if heading to/from @manairport."
Traffic chaos was sparked after lorry broke through the central reservation, and struck several street lights.
Ruptured fuel tanks were also reported in the collision, with diesel spilling onto the road on both sides of the carriageway.
A section of the route between J25 Bredbury Interchange (A560) and J1 Pyramid Roundabout (A5145) is expected to remain closed in both directions for some time due to the amount of debris and the recovery of several badly damaged lorries.
Greater Manchester Police, Manchester Fire & Rescue, North West Ambulance Service, National Highways traffic officers, and maintenance crews are at the scene.
Fortunately, only minor injuries have been reported from the collision.
North West Ambulance Service said three people were taken to hospital for treatment, and six were assessed at the scene for minor injuries.
Traffic caught within the closure will be released in due course, with National Highways and Greater Manchester Police doing everything they can to speed up the process.
A statement from National Highways said: "The M60 in Greater Manchester is closed in both directions between J25 Bredbury Interchange (Bredbury, A560) and J1 Pyramid Roundabout (Stockport (Cen), A5145)
"This is due to a multi-vehicle collision involving 4 heavy goods vehicles and 4 cars.
"One of the heavy goods vehicles has crossed through the central reservation barrier and struck several lamp columns in the process. One of the other heavy goods vehicles has shed its load of beer barrels in to the road.
"Additionally there are several ruptured fuel tanks from the collision which have resulted in a large amount of diesel across the carriageway in both directions."

New Jaguar car that lead disastrous ‘woke rebrand' seen for the first time… with fans divided over whether they like it

JAGUAR'S controversial new concept car has finally been revealed in person for the first time - sparking intense debate between fans. Onlookers got to see the Jag which has been at the forefront of its "woke" rebrand. 5 5 5 5 Jaguar unveiled its new Type 00 concept car for the first time on Friday morning at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The car will never go on sale in its existing form. Instead, it is a concept car exhibited to showcase Jaguar's new "exuberant modernism." The car stunned Goodwood's guests with its spotless, striking blue exterior which drew large crowds from across the festival. The colour was a significant departure from the pink colour dressing the 00 when it was first announced late last year. When the 30-second ad was first unveiled, flashing up a number of slogans, including "live vivid", "delete ordinary" and "copy nothing", fans on social media were not happy. Musk simply asked Jaguar on X: ''Do you sell cars?' This weekend, fans had the chance to comment on the car's new design after physically seeing it. Jaguar boss doubles down & DEFENDS new 'woke Tesla' pink EV in controversial rebrand Speaking to The Times, many fans were left unimpressed by Jaguar's new concept car and new brand direction. "The back's horrendous," said one fan. Another assessed: 'They've wrecked the brand. " The logo is awful, it looks like it was designed by a child. One fan even said the new ad campaign had led him to sell his F-Pace. Others did enjoy some of the features of the new car, saying they thought it was cool and futuristic. In November, the controversial ad excluded any images of its sleek sports cars as it touted its transition to a fully electric, ultra-luxury company. The scrapping of the well-known big cat badge in favour of a geometric 'J' design also drew fierce criticism. At the time of release, one Facebook user commented: "If I wasn't sure before, now I'm convinced Jaguar have completely lost the plot. This woke nonsense won't gain anything." Another said: "As someone who worked for this iconic brand up until production cessation in June it really does sadden me to see the direction the company has decided to take." 5

Swap Gear! Dua Lipa shows off her lightning pace at Goodwood Festival of Speed with outfit change quicker than an F1 pitstop

Dua Lipa showed she was a perfect fit for this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed - with an outfit change quicker than a F1 pitstop. Arriving at the event in a black leather jacket and black, ripped jean shorts and a white T-shirt, the singer switched into a striped yellow shirt and blue jeans in record-breaking time. The 29-year-old headed to West Sussex for the charity auction of a customised Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Emblazoned with her name and the German word Rennstall, which means racing team, the colourful car was designed by Ms Lipa, with all proceeds from the auction going to the Sunny Hill Foundation. The Albanian-British star set up the charity in Kosovo to support vulnerable people in the country, with a focus on arts and culture. The sale is being organised with Sotheby's, which says the car has a value 'in excess of $400,000 (£346,000)'. Ms Lipa, said to be worth £100million, has been a Porsche ambassador since 2023. But the singer, who announced her engagement to actor Callum Turner, 35, last month, has shown she's still happy to take the train. On Tuesday, she was spotted at St Pancras station after returning from holiday on Eurostar. More than 200,000 car fans and families are enjoying the sold-out Goodwood Festival of Speed – which has become the nation's unofficial motor show set in a stately home garden party. The four-day automotive extravaganza takes place in the parkland grounds of Goodwood House, near Chichester, and is hosted by the Duke of Richmond – under whose stewardship it has grown massively in scale and ambition since its launch in 1993. As well as attracting a record number of champion drivers and cars from Formula One – this year enjoying its 75th anniversary – the Festival of Speed provides a launchpad for debuts from sporting, luxury, supercar and mainstream car firms including Aston Martin, with its new Vantage S and Vanquish Volante, BMW, Chevrolet and Ferrari. Goodwood marks the UK debut of Renault's new R4 E-Tech electric crossover, which is also tackling the challenging 1.16-mile hill-climb course. Priced in three trim levels from £26,995 to £30,995, the new R4 is the more practical sibling of the award-winning Renault 5 E-Tech, costing from £22,995, which landed in UK driveways from April. Order books for the R4 open from July 15 ahead of the first deliveries in October. On static display is a design model of the head-banging £140,000 555hp Renault 5 Turbo 3e mini supercar, which accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in under 3.5 seconds, up to a top speed of 167 mph. Expect first deliveries from 2027. Legendary American marque Chevrolet is unveiling its first hybrid Corvette 'muscle-car' with my name on it: the 643 horsepower (473 kW) E-Ray. Combining a 6.2 litre V8 petrol engine with an electric motor, it accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in a sizzling 2.9 seconds and is available to order in right-hand drive from £153,440 for the coupe and £159,230 for the convertible. First deliveries in September. Chinese car-giant BYD presents its new premium brand Denza, ahead of its UK launch in early 2026. It is showing three fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars: a Z9 GT shooting brake, upmarket MPV called D9 and a rugged Land Rover Discovery rival called B5. BYD itself recently launched its new Dolphin Surf electric city car with a range of 200 miles and priced from £18,650. Ferrari is featuring four new models, including debuts of the new Amalfi sports car, which I road tested this month, the 296 Speciale, F80 and 12Cilindri. The giant central display in front of Goodwood House honours 60 years of car design by the legendary Gordon Murray, whose highlights include the McLaren F1 supercar and lightweight T.50 hypercar.
