'I tried Popeyes 'phenomenal' hot honey burger - it's the best I've ever eaten'

Daily Mirror16-07-2025
Popeyes have brought back one of their most in demand flavours to their menu - the Hot Honey range. Mirror writer Niamh Kirk finally managed to get her hands on one and try it out
Hot honey is the flavour of the moment - so it's about time Popeyes brought back their iconic menu items. Since the Louisiana fried chicken chain first came to the UK in 2021, it's amassed fans all over the country thanks to it's crunchy fried chicken, iconic burgers and Cajun topped fries.

When the Hot Honey range was introduced last year, it sent fans into a frenzy with the sweet but spicy sauce generously slathered all over the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich and the Hot Honey Saucin' Wings - making it one of the most successful launches ever, only to be taken away again three months later.

Dubbed "better than McDonald's" by fans, who called it "phenomenal", it's now back, and with a brand new menu item too. After missing out on it last year, I knew it was finally my time. The classic OG Popeyes chicken burger managed to convert me to a Popeyes fan, so I was wondering how the Hot Honey would compare.

'I made my own Strawberry matcha for breakfast - you should know this before you try'
I couldn't wait to tuck into the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich, and not to sound dramatic, but it might just be the best chicken burger I've ever eaten. The Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich (£6.99) promises the chain's shatter crunch chicken breast in a brioche bun with a healthy drizzle of hot honey sauce and it's topped with smoked cheese and pickles. What's not to love?
The Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich is joined by the brand-new Hot Honey Saucin' Boneless, the return of Hot Honey Saucin' Wings, and the Hot Honey Box Meal to complete the full Hot Honey range.

First things first, it's very, very messy and because it's honey, it's also very sticky too - so you may need a napkin, a wet wipe or some hand wash close by just to warn you. The burger is a hefty one, and it's clear they didn't scrimp on the sauce as it was oozing out of my burger when I had unwrapped it.
Would you try the Hot Honey chicken burger? Let us know in the comments.
Aside from the messiness, the sauce was very, very sweet, but it also had quite a kick to it living up to it's name of 'hot' honey. I think the sweetness was a little overpowering, but the crunchy chicken helped combine the flavours - it was definitely not dry. I can see why this burger was brought back by popular demand, it is definitely something a little different from a regular chicken burger.

The iconic Popeyes crunchy chicken was delicious, and the chicken breast was a very generous size, while the added pickles were a nice touch - without having the faff of too much salad.
I really enjoyed this burger, although it was very sweet, I thought it was nice to opt for something a little different to switch up my lunchtime meal. I don't know if it is better than the original Popeyes classic burger, but it's definitely up there.

Dave Hoskins, head of food at Popeyes UK confirmed the range is returning due to an unprecedented demand. "Hot Honey is by far one of our best-selling flavours, as well as a viral trend that shows no signs of letting up. Our sweet, fiery sandwich pairs sticky honey with our signature Shatter Crunch texture for a mouth-watering experience that fans have been begging us to bring back.
"We couldn't ignore the unprecedented calls from customers, and got right to work creating a bigger and better range filled with an explosion of the fiery stickin' sweet flavours, to satisfy that huge demand from our fried chicken cravers."

It's not been confirmed how long exactly the new items will be on the menu for, but they are once again all limited-edition, so they won't be sticking around forever. Available in stores now.

Liam Gallagher's split from Patsy Kensit sparked a Wembley nightmare that still haunts Oasis

As the Gallagher brothers return to the stage at London's Wembley Stadium, Noel recalls one of the last times Oasis played there as one of the worst nights of his life Manchester rock legends Oasis are gearing up to headline seven nights at Wembley Stadium, with the first show kicking off this evening. The gigs are part of the Gallagher brothers' highly anticipated UK and Ireland reunion tour and fans are buzzing with excitement. ‌ However, a past Wembley gig still lingers in the band's memory. Their 2000 show at the iconic venue is remembered by Noel Gallagher as 'dreadful' and it has gone down in music history as one of their most cringe worthy moments, something both Noel and Liam have publicly regretted. ‌ As anticipation builds for the 2025 reunion dates, fans will be hoping for a far more triumphant return to Wembley, the Mirror reports. ‌ Tonight's (July 25) gig marks the first time Oasis has played the Wembley Stadium venue since July 2009. The gig came just weeks after the Gallagher brothers split. It was during the Standing on the Shoulder of Giants tour in 2000 that a now in-famous slurred performance unfolded - today though the Gallagher brothers are older and perhaps a bit wiser than they were 25 years ago. ‌ Their second night at Wembley Stadium in July 2000 was meant to be a major moment, filmed for a live album and TV broadcast. But things quickly went off the rails, becoming a notorious disaster. Reflecting on the performance years later in 2017, Noel said that Liam should 'hang his head in shame' over what happened that night. ‌ At the time, frontman Liam Gallagher appeared drunk and was slurring lyrics, ranting expletives and sharing personal details on his private life in between songs. Looking back on the night in a 2017 interview with Radio X, Noel called it a 'low point in Oasis.' He said: "It was a horrible two-and-a-half hours on stage. Liam can hang his head in shame. It was dreadful." During the performance, Liam made slurred remarks about his breakup with actress and model Patsy Kensit. The couple officially confirmed their divorce in September 2000, ending their three year marriage. ‌ Despite their split, they shared happier times and have a son together, Lennon. Liam and Patsy's break-up was finalised at the London Divorce Court, where Patsy was granted a decree nisi on the grounds of Liams "unreasonable behaviour." However, in recent years Liam has admitted he has now stopped drinking before he's set to go on stage. Speaking to Radio X, he said: "I've not drank booze on stage since that famous Wembley gig. Remember that one where it all went a bit... " ‌ "Apparently people like that kind of thing but now I steer clear of all of that, do you know what I mean? It's just water man, stuff like that," he concluded. Despite the younger Gallagher brother's now sober performances, the in-famous uncut footage from 2000 is still available online. The band's Familiar to Millions release ended up externalising the chaotic show - and vocals were edited to salvage the recordings. Now, 25 years on, despite all this, Oasis fans have never lost love for the indie duo, as thousands gather in London to see Noel and Liam take the stage.

Oasis fans discover new genius way of watching the sold-out shows for free

A pair of Oasis fans who didn't get tickets to their sold-out Manchester shows found a novel way to see the band instead - and even the Gallaghers were impressed Two Oasis fans who failed to get tickets to the band's sold-out tour found a genius way to watch their homecoming gigs at Manchester's Heaton Park. ‌ Posting a video to TikTok, @softgirlswhohikle shared a clip of the male fans, who might have got a better view of the stage than most people in the crowds. "No tickets for Oasis? Get the cherry picker out!" the caption said. ‌ "At least they didn't forget their bucket hats," they added. The post quickly racked up more than 160,000 likes, with fans saying both Oasis and Liam Gallagher and brother Noel Gallagher reposted the short clip to their own social media accounts. ‌ Oasis fans are only just realising why Noel Gallagher always has a straw in his mouth before gigs Oasis fan sneaks into Heaton Park gig without ticket after hatching this genius plan And people were impressed with the Oasis fans' efforts, with one referencing the astronomical price of the tickets - some of which reached £500 – in the comments: "Cheaper to hire than paying for a ticket." ‌ Another posted: "This is definitely maybe iconic." A third asked: "Genius! Are they taking bookings? Asking for a friend." A fourth joked: "That's Bez and Shaun Ryder [from the Happy Mondays]." A fifth added: "Well done lads... I'm surprised the council didn't try and put a fence around it!" While a sixth added: "Champagne Supernova in the SKYYYYYYYY!!!" After kicking off their reunion tour in Cardiff on Friday, July 4, Oasis have already played five nights in their native Manchester at Heaton Park. Tonight (Friday, July 25) is the first night of another five-night stretch, this time at London's Wembley Stadium. The band last played at Wembley on July 12, 2009, as part of their 'Dig Out Your Soul' tour. ‌ Get Oasis updates straight to your WhatsApp! As the hotly anticipated Oasis reunion tour grows closer, the Mirror has launched its very own Oasis WhatsApp community where you'll get all the latest news on the Gallagher brothers and all the information you'll need in the run up to the gigs. We'll send you the latest breaking updates and exclusives all directly to your phone. Users must download or already have WhatsApp on their phones to join in. It became one of their final gigs before they sensationally split in Paris later on that year. But the venue doesn't hold good memories for older brother Noel, 58, who previously tore into 'our kid' Liam, 52, over a previous performance. Describing a gig in the year 2000 there as their 'worst ever', he declared: "That was the low point in Oasis. It was a horrible two-and-a-half hour on stage. Liam can hang his head in shame. It was dreadful." ‌ So the band will be pulling out all the stops to make sure the next five nights are ones to remember for all the right reasons. After their London gigs, they will go on to play dates in Edinburgh and Dublin, before taking the tour international. After a 16-year feud, so far Liam and Noel are holding it together on tour – and were even spotted holding hands on stage. Though things appear to be fine between the brothers now, Liam recently opened up to reveal what his one major regret about the band was. A fan asked him on social media: "How does it feel singing songs with ur brother again? Like old times?" Liam responded: "You know what it's spiritual, but I can't help think about all those wasted years, what a waste of PRECIOUS time." But could fans see the once-warring brothers again after their upcoming tour? Replying to a fan, Liam teased: "Let's see how this tour goes and if we still love each other after it." viagogo and resale tickets Sites such as viagogo, Stubhub, and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that ticket conditions often prohibit resale after initial purchase. Those tickets may not be valid for admittance to gigs. Fans intending to buy tickets for live events through resale websites should check the ticket terms and conditions, to confirm whether resale is prohibited, before they buy. Ticket terms and conditions can be checked with the original seller, such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation. If resale is prohibited, tickets bought second-hand could be voided and admission to the event refused.

Original Happy Gilmore cast now as long-awaited sequel airs on Netflix

Happy Gilmore 2 finally lands on Netflix as fans get another glimpse of Adam Sandler's iconic character Happy nearly 30 years later. Happy Gilmore 2 has finally landed on Netflix, with comedy lovers gearing up to watch the long awaited sequel this weekend. Adam Sandler reprises one of his most iconic roles, stepping back into the shoes of the wild ex-hockey player who discovers an unexpected talent for golf. ‌ Nearly 30 years after the original, the sequel finds Happy grappling with a sudden tragedy that pushes him to pick up golf once more - this time to support his daughter Vienna (played by Sunny Sandler) as she chases her dream of becoming a dancer. ‌ Packed with plenty of cameos and laughs, the movie hasn't yet received a Rotten Tomatoes score but is sure to delight fans of the first film, the Mirror reports. ‌ With many original cast members returning for cameos, let's take a look at what the stars have been up to over the past two decades. Adam Sandler The legendary comedian Adam Sandler starred in the original comedy and of course returns for the sequel as the washed-up hockey player turned golfer. ‌ Almost 30 years later, the 58-year-old Sandler has become one of Hollywood's most successful comic actors, staring in hits like The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, Click and Grown Ups. He has also expanded his range with acclaimed dramatic roles in films such as Punch-Drunk Love, Uncut Gems and Hustle, along with lending his voice to Dracula in the popular Hotel Transylvania animated series. Away from the spotlight, Sandler has been married to Jacqueline 'Jackie' Sandler since 2003. The couple has two daughters, Sadie and Sunny, both of whom have appeared alongside their dad in the coming-of-age comedy You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah as well as Happy Gilmore 2. ‌ Christopher McDonald Christopher McDonald is widely recognised by fans as Happy's fiery rival, Shooter McGavin, a role he reprises in the sequel. His career also includes notable appearances in films such as Thelma and Louise - where he starred opposite his former fiancée Geena Davis - Leave It to Beaver, Requiem for a Dream and The House Bunny. ‌ Off-screen, McDonald has been married to actress Lupe Gidley since 1992, and the couple has four children: three daughters and a son. Julie Bowen Julie Bowen played Happy's love interest, Virginia Venit, in the original Happy Gilmore and has since become a household name for her role as Claire Dunphy on the hit ABC sitcom Modern Family. ‌ She portrayed Claire for over a decade, earning six Primetime Emmy nominations and winning two awards. Bowen returns for Happy Gilmore 2 and, off-screen, married real estate investor and software developer Scott Phillips in 2004. The couple has three sons, but Bowen filed for divorce in February 2018, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce was finalised later that September. Frances Bay ‌ Legendary Canadian comedian France Bay played Happy's grandmother in the original Happy Gilmore and become a beloved screen icon with memorable roles in shows like Happy Days, The Dukes of Hazzard, Cheers and Seinfeld. Following the first film she went on to star in the likes of Charmed, Grey's Anatomy and The Middle as well as films like Stranger than Fiction and The Wedding Planner. Unfortunately, Bay will not be appearing in Happy Gilmore 2 as she passed away at the age of 92 in 2011, due to complications from pneumonia. ‌ Allen Covert Allen Covert, a longtime collaborator of Sandler, played Otto, the homeless man who eventually becomes Happy's caddy in the 1996 film. He returns for the sequel, having also co-starred alongside Sandler in hits like Big Daddy, The Wedding Singer, Anger Management, and 50 First Dates. ‌ Covert has been involved in nearly all of Sandler's projects, either as a supporting actor or producer, and has announced plans to launch his own production company aimed at bringing R-rated comedies back to the big screen. He married Kathryn Ashley Hagstrom in 2006 but filed for divorce in 2019. Richard Kiel Known as the 'Gentle Giant' for his towering height of 7 feet 1.5 inches, Richard Kiel famously portrayed the James Bond villain Jaws in The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker. ‌ He also played Happy's intimidating boss, Mr. Larson, in the original Happy Gilmore film, but sadly will not appear in the sequel. Kiel passed away from heart disease on September 10, 2014, just three days shy of his 75th birthday. Kiel was married to Faye Daniels from 1960 to 1973, and then married Diane Rogers in 1974. They remained together until his passing, raising four children and welcoming nine grandchildren during their 40-year marriage. Ben Stiller ‌ A-list comedy star Ben Stiller played an uncredited role as the abusive elderly Hal, who torments Happy's grandmother in the original Happy Gilmore. Since then, Stiller has become internationally known for his roles in Zoolander, Tropic Thunder, Meet the Parents and the Night at the Museum franchise, as well as more dramatic parts in While We're Young, The Meyerowitz Stories and Brad's Status. In addition to acting, Stiller has directed several of his most iconic films, including Zoolander, Tropic Thunder, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. More recently, he has earned praise for directing episodes of the acclaimed Apple TV+ sci-fi drama Severance. ‌ Outside of his career, Stiller has been married to actress Christine Taylor since 2000. The couple, who have co-starred in multiple films, briefly separated in 2017 but reunited while living together during the COVID-19 pandemic. They share two children, a daughter, Ella, and a son, Quinn. Carl Weathers One of the most beloved characters from the original Happy Gilmore is Carl Weathers as Happy's coach, Chubbs Peterson, who famously lost a hand to an alligator. ‌ Weathers is also well-known for playing a fictionalised version of himself on Arrested Development. Before venturing into comedy, he earned fame for his iconic role as Apollo Creed in the Rocky series, as well as portraying Colonel Al Dillon in the original Predator alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. In recent years, Weathers made a major comeback starring as Greef Karga in the Star Wars spin-off series The Mandalorian, a performance that earned him an Emmy nomination. Happy Gilmore 2 pays frequent tribute to Weathers, who sadly passed away last year at the age of 76 from suspected atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. He was married three times and is survived by his partner of ten years, Christine Kludjian.
