India's Only G-Wagen Limousine Is Actually Modified Mahindra Scorpio? What We Know
Limousines have never really become a common sight in India, but that hasn't stopped car enthusiasts from building their own. Over the years, people have stretched everything from Maruti 800s to Volkswagen Jettas into limo versions. The latest attention-grabber is a custom-made Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen limousine, which is a heavily modified Mahindra Scorpio underneath.
This unique creation was featured in a video by the YouTube channel Jaipur Jeep Lovers. From a distance, it looks like a luxurious G-Wagen limo, but it is not what it seems. The base car is a 2012 Mahindra Scorpio, which has been redesigned from the ground up to look like a G-Wagen. The builder refers to it as a 'kit car," meaning it has been given a new outer body designed and built entirely by the garage.
From the front, the Scorpio has been completely transformed. It now wears a G-Wagen-style hood, round headlights, a boxy grille, and signal lights placed on the bonnet, just like the real thing. To top it off, LED lights are added inside the grille, and the front bumper is now made of metal, mimicking the original G-Class bumper.
On the sides, the vehicle sports big glass panels and long side skirts, adding to the limo vibe. Though the video doesn't mention its exact length, it is clear that the car is very long. At the rear, the changes are minimal but still resemble the G-Wagen, with a spare wheel cover and bumper-mounted tail lights.
Inside, the limo is made to impress. It features a stylish lounge space, complete with black and white leather seats, multiple AC vents, party lights, a television, and a sound system. Everything in the cabin has been custom-built, making it perfect for events and celebrations. In fact, the limo is shown in the video decorated with rose petals and being used in a procession, making it clear that it is meant more for show than regular use.

This Scorpio-turned-G-Wagen limo is available for rent. The video mentions that it can be hired for weddings, birthdays, or other special events. People from anywhere in India can book the car by using the phone numbers shown in the video. However, the exact rental charges aren't mentioned.
Since it is so long and wide, driving this limo isn't a cakewalk. On the road, it moves like a mini-bus and stands out instantly. The host in the video also says that the car will soon get actual Mercedes wheels. At the moment, it has golden-coloured alloy wheels, which don't quite match the rest of its design.
Legal Trouble Ahead?
Now comes the serious part. Is this kind of car modification legal in India? Sadly, the answer is no. In India, even basic cosmetic changes to vehicles are not allowed under motor laws, as per the Cartoq.
This kind of limo conversion involves major structural changes, which can compromise the safety and integrity of the vehicle. As a result, such cars can be seized by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) without warning.
Interestingly, the owner of this vehicle originally converted the Scorpio into a limousine back in 2012 at a cost of about Rs 40 lakh, Cartoq states. The G-Wagen-style kit and its installation came much later and cost an additional Rs 3.5 lakh. While it may look amazing and turn heads at every corner, the legality of such modifications remains a big issue in India.

Having visited a variety of service centres over the years, from to Mercedes-Benz , I was genuinely impressed by what I saw here. The offices and waiting lounge were top-class, while the service floor was immaculately maintained. Every car had its own dedicated technician and service advisor, and there was ample space for movement. The facility was airy, well-lit, and designed to help technicians spot even the smallest details during inspections. What stood out was how self-contained the setup was. The Mysore centre houses a built-in paint booth alongside the body shop, as well as a dedicated washing bay, meaning vehicles never need to leave the premises during the process. From start to finish, the process was smooth, transparent, and refreshingly free of unnecessary add-ons. With service quality like this and costs that don't break the bank, the MG Hector continues to prove itself as a solid choice in the segment, both on the road and in the service bay. Recently, as part of its 6th anniversary celebrations, MG Motor India announced limited-period price cuts on the Hector and Hector Plus SUVs. The extent of the reduction varies depending on the variant and model availability, with discounts going up to Rs 2.30 lakh. The car is powered by FCA's 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine, paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission. The gearbox offers smooth, precise shifts, complementing the engine's strong performance. Producing 170 bhp and 350 Nm of torque, the motor is free-revving and delivers ample power despite the vehicle's considerable weight. A strong low-end ensures easy drivability in both city traffic and on highways, while the wide torque band reduces the need for frequent gear changes. In fact, the engine is flexible enough to pull away from a standstill in second gear. On the highway, the engine's free-revving nature makes the car feel quick and responsive. In its BS6 iteration, refinement has improved noticeably, with additional noise insulation under the bonnet keeping vibrations and harshness in check. Efficiency is another strong point, during highway runs, we managed to extract an impressive 23.2 kmpl, which is remarkable for an SUV of this size. Volkswagen launches 'upgrade' plan at as low as ₹2,000 per month; Check cars eligible for this upgrade
Volkswagen has introduced a subscription-based model in the UK that allows customers of its electric cars to unlock higher horsepower by paying extra, the BBC reported. The system applies to the ID.3 and ID.4 models, which start with 201 horsepower but can be increased to 228 horsepower for a fee. The optional upgrade costs ₹1,945 (£16.50) per month, ₹19,450 (£165) annually, or ₹76,506 (£649) for a one-time lifetime purchase. Company's explanation A Volkswagen spokesperson said the move reflects a long-standing practice in the automobile sector. 'Historically many petrol and diesel vehicles have been offered with engines of the same size, but with the possibility of choosing one with more potency,' the spokesperson said, adding that the subscription was designed to offer customers flexibility. According to the company, the power upgrade allows a 'sportier' driving experience without committing to a higher upfront purchase price. Customer backlash Despite Volkswagen's reasoning, many customers expressed disappointment on social media. Critics described the system as 'artificial gatekeeping' and a 'cash grab.' 'When there's a will, there's a way. It'll be like ECU tuning except now you gotta have the skills of an iPhone jailbreaker,' one user wrote. Another said: 'The problem is not the ability to do something like this. The problem is the artificial gatekeeping of the features for sh*t value.'
