Speaking to the press during the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award ceremony held in 2025, Shetty passionately stated that 'Kashmir has always been, is, and will forever remain an inseparable part of our nation.'
His comments drew a wave of reactions online. Many lauded his words as thoughtful and heartfelt, praising him for speaking with clarity and conviction. Several individuals expressed joy and pride after hearing his remarks. Others, however, raised important concerns about public safety, questioning how ordinary citizens, unlike celebrities with access to government protection, could confidently travel to high-risk areas.
Highlighting the significance of collective strength, Shetty emphasized that serving humanity equates to worshipping the divine. He added that every action is observed by a higher power and that justice will eventually prevail. In a call for national solidarity, he stressed that this was a time for unity across communities and regions, warning against falling victim to those who attempt to divide society through terror and hatred.
'We must stand together as one people,' Shetty affirmed. 'Let's not succumb to those trying to instill division and panic. Instead, we need to demonstrate that Kashmir belonged to us, continues to be ours, and will always be part of India's soul. That's the reason why the military, political leaders, and civilians are actively participating in ensuring peace and stability in the region.'
The actor's message sparked a mix of appreciation and criticism across social media. One commenter noted, 'Finally, someone speaking wisely.' Another wrote, 'Suniel Shetty, your words brought happiness to our hearts—love from Kashmir.' A third user exclaimed, 'Beautifully said! You won us over.'
However, not all responses were positive. Skeptics pointed out the privileges that public figures enjoy. One user challenged Shetty's bravery, saying, 'Then you should go without any protection and prove you're not scared.' Another remarked, 'You people are already under heavy security. Unlike us commoners, we can't afford to take such risks.' A critical voice asked, 'You'll get state-provided security—but what about everyday citizens?'
This blend of admiration and critique reflects the complex emotions that often follow celebrity involvement in political or national issues. While many praised Shetty for speaking boldly and promoting patriotism, others voiced legitimate concerns regarding equality, safety, and the realities faced by the general public. His call to action has undeniably stirred a national conversation around courage, unity, and the symbolic importance of Kashmir in the Indian consciousness.

NMC's ward structure draft with minor tweaks by Aug 5
Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has finalised a draft of its new ward structure with only minor changes, which will be submitted to the state's urban development department by August 5. Despite retaining the earlier four-member-per-ward system used in 2017 civic polls, the rising population and emergence of new localities have led to growing speculation among political parties and voters about how the final ward boundaries will look. The NMC administration has been functioning under an appointed administrator after the elected civic body's term ended on March 6, 2022. The NMC's draft has already received approval and signatures of the internal committee. Once submitted, it will be open to objections and suggestions from political parties and the general public. This phase will offer a clearer picture of any adjustments made, particularly those that could influence the electoral prospects of key players in the city. The 2017 elections were held under a four-member ward system, with 37 wards having four corporators each and one ward electing three members — bringing the total to 151 corporators. The same ward structure is expected to be continued for the upcoming elections. BJP, which has ruled NMC for three consecutive terms, is working to maintain its dominance. In 2017, the party won a commanding 108 seats, followed by Congress with 29, BSP with 12, Shiv Sena with 2, and NCP with 1. As per electoral norms, following the announcement of the draft ward structure, a lottery will be held to determine reservation of seats for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and women. Of the proposed 156 seats in the civic body, 50% will be reserved for women. Tentatively, 12 seats are expected to be reserved for SC women and 6 for ST women. The State Election Commission recently reviewed poll readiness in Nagpur division and suggested a three-phase election process. Local leaders expect elections to be held by February 2026, possibly after municipal council and zilla parishad polls. Nonetheless, political parties and aspiring candidates have already begun preparations on the ground.
