MELAKA - Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said he is awaiting the results of an investigation into the alleged submission of fake medical certificates (MCs) by a civil servant in Sungai Petani, Kedah, as reported by the media yesterday.
According to him, the investigation is still ongoing and he has yet to receive a full report on the case.
"(The investigation) is still ongoing and the report will be submitted to me soon," he told reporters after attending the Melaka-level Jelajah Taat Setia MADANI Programme at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh, here today.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh officiated the closing ceremony of the programme, which was also attended by Melaka State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad.
The media yesterday reported that three individuals, including a heart patient, had been arrested over their suspected involvement in the sale of fake MCs.
Their activities were uncovered following an internal probe into a policeman who frequently went on sick leave, with the MCs he submitted found to be suspicious.
Meanwhile, in his speech at the programme, Shamsul Azri said civil servants' loyalty to leaders should not be seen as personal, but rather as loyalty to the principles of constitutional democracy.
"As civil servants, we serve a legitimate government in accordance with the law. We are not bound to any political party, but to the oath of office we have taken to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law.
"Loyalty to leaders is not individualistic in nature but a means of strengthening national stability, enhancing administrative effectiveness, and ensuring the continuity of lawfully formulated national policies," he said.
At the same event, Ab Rauf and Shamsul Azri jointly launched the MADANI Pocket Book, which is available in six languages - Malay, English, Mandarin, Tamil, Iban and Kadazan.
The pocket book serves as a brief yet comprehensive guide to understanding the Malaysia MADANI framework and key initiatives introduced by the government. - BERNAMA

Malaysia Reiterates Ceasefire Call On Thailand-Cambodia Conflict

PUTRAJAYA, July 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has reiterated its appeal to Thailand and Cambodia to exercise maximum restraint, undertake an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, and refrain from taking any action that may undermine peace efforts. As the Chair of ASEAN 2025, Malaysia said it is deeply concerned over the escalation between the two nations, which has resulted in increasing casualties on both sides, destruction of public property, and the displacement of a large number of people along the border areas. 'We reiterate our appeal to both sides to exercise maximum restraint and undertake an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, and refrain from taking any action that may undermine it,' Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said in a statement Saturday. bootstrap slideshow He further urged both sides to return to the negotiating table to restore peace and stability based on the spirit of the ASEAN family, unity, and good neighbourliness. 'We stand ready to continue our work through the good offices of the ASEAN Chair in facilitating both immediate neighbours and fellow members of ASEAN to resume talks and end the fighting,' he added. In the latest development, Malaysia will continue engaging with the leaders of both states to propose a peace process in response to the border conflict between the two countries, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai had expressed appreciation for his initiative to propose a peace process and a ceasefire. On Friday, Anwar said the government does not take lightly the ongoing conflict between Thailand and Cambodia and its impact on Malaysia. Tensions between the two Southeast Asian nations have been escalating since May 28 following a deadly incident in the Preah Vihear area that claimed the life of a Cambodian soldier.

MADANI Communities To Receive Further Details Within 24 Hours After Announcements

MELAKA, July 26 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Community nationwide will receive further details related to any announcement within 24 hours after it is made, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said the measure was to deliver accurate information directly to the grassroots in each locality. 'For technical matters, it may be difficult, but we want the MADANI Community to get the simplest explanation,' he said at the 2025 Peninsular Malaysia MADANI Community Retreat held in conjunction with the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 at Mini Stadium Bistari, Ayer Keroh here tonight. The retreat, attended by around 2,300 participants from 1,406 MADANI Communities, was also joined by Melaka Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communication Committee chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan. Also present were Senior Division Secretary (Management) of the Ministry of Communications, Mazlan Abd Mutalib, and Information Department director-general Julina Johan. Meanwhile, Fahmi said among the major announcements to be made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) on July 31. He said the tabling of a Malaysia Plan usually involved highly technical details related to the country's physical development, such as the construction of hospitals and schools. 'But within 24 hours, the MADANI Community will receive simplified explanations and breakdowns so that they can communicate the information in an easy-to-understand way to their respective communities. 'So this will be a new thing, because I want the MADANI Community to grasp and absorb any government announcement quickly,' he said.

Misuse of tourism licences will lead to firm consequences, warns Tiong

KUALA LUMPUR: Firm action will be taken against the misuse of licences, including dive permits, tour guide credentials, and travel agency approvals if found guilty, says Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing. In a Facebook post Saturday (July 26), the Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister responded to a viral video showing a clash between a diving instructor and a foreign tourist in Semporna, Sabah, which has sparked public concern. Initial findings suggest that the incident began during a dive trip when an air tank was improperly placed on the boat deck and accidentally dropped, injuring the instructor's foot. A dispute ensued, which later escalated into a physical confrontation. "The case is now under formal investigation and the instructor has been arrested. Relevant enforcement agencies will work closely to uncover the full story and ensure the process is legal, fair, and transparent," he said. "While investigations continue, the ministry will monitor the case and address any non-compliance in tourism activities." Tiong urged tourism operators to strictly adhere to safety and operational guidelines to prevent similar incidents, while also stressing the importance of tourists cooperating with guides and instructors to ensure their safety and that of others. He also reminded operators to uphold professionalism and treat guests with respect, ensuring that there is no violence, insults, or intimidation involved, except in clear cases of self-defence, and to respond calmly and strive to resolve issues peacefully when faced with rude behaviour. "As Malaysia is known globally as a friendly and welcoming destination, we take pride in our natural beauty and cultural diversity, and we welcome travellers from around the world," he said. He added that with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 approaching, all parties must play their part in protecting the country's image, ensuring that every visitor better understands and respects Malaysia's laws, culture, and norms. "I call on all tourism players to work together to create a safe, respectful, and professional environment, so that both visitors and hosts can fully enjoy the best of Malaysia," he said. – Bernama
