CM Revanth Reddy says local body polls soon, calls on Congress workers to send ‘BRS into oblivion'
Speaking at a public meeting in Thungathurthi, Suryapet district, after launching the distribution of new ration cards, Revanth said Telangana is the first state to conduct a caste survey and reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring 42% reservations for BCs in the upcoming local body elections.
Projecting a long-term vision, Revanth said the Congress would remain in power till 2034. 'From 1994–2004, the TDP ruled, followed by Congress till 2014 in undivided Andhra Pradesh. The BRS then ruled Telangana from 2014–2023. Now, the Congress will be in power from 2023 to 2034. By 2035, we aim to make Telangana a one trillion-dollar economy capable of competing globally,' he declared.
BRS opened belt shops, not ration stores: CM
Taking a swipe at Suryapet MLA G Jagadish Reddy of the BRS, he said, 'A person who is just three feet tall is claiming he will stop me in Thungathurthi. It's not as easy to bring Godavari water here as pouring soda into a glass. The BRS failed to complete pending projects in Nalgonda and bring Godavari water.'
He stated that the Congress government would provide Godavari water to Thungathurthi through the Devadula Project, Package-6.
Criticising the BRS over the Kaleshwaram project, Revanth said, 'That project has collapsed. Compare it with projects built by previous Congress governments. Are you (BRS leaders) ready for a debate at Nagarjunasagar or Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla? There's nothing wrong in saying someone should be hanged for the Kaleshwaram scam. KCR looted `1 lakh crore in its name.'

Ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 16-day vote adhikar yatra (right to vote march) in Bihar from August 17, the State's party president Rajesh Kumar 'Ram' on Thursday (August 14, 2025) hailed as a 'triumph of truth and defeat of conspiracy' the Supreme Court's interim order on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. The court on Thursday directed the Election Commission to publish the names of voters deleted from the draft roll published on August 1 with reasons. 'This [order] is our first victory,' Mr. Kumar said. 'This is not only an order of the court but a big step taken to protect the democratic values of the country. Since the beginning, we have been saying that deletion of names from the voters' list is a murder of democracy. Today, the Supreme Court has protected democratic rights of people of Bihar and now there will not be any ploy to steal votes,' he added. Mr. Gandhi will start his march from Sasaram and will be joined by Opposition leaders, the party said. The yatra will culminate in a public meeting in Patna's Gandhi Maidan on September 1. The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha will cover 1,300 km, visiting Rohtas, Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Jamui, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Munger, Katihar, Purnia, Supaul, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, West Champaran and Saran districts, said party spokesperson Rajesh Rathore. 'The State unit of the party will organise the nationwide 'save democracy torch procession' in all district headquarters on Thursday,' said party spokesperson Asit Nath Tiwari. Asked how the party will benefit from Mr. Gandhi's 16-day visit in the upcoming Assembly elections, senior Congress leader Kishore Kumar Jha said, 'It will make the desired difference like the party had earlier got after the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.' In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Congress candidate Manoj Kumar had won the Sasaram parliamentary seat defeating BJP's Shivesh Kumar. Got caught up in sharp contests among political parties: ECI to Supreme Court
The Election Commission of India (ECI) told the Supreme Court on Thursday (August 14, 2025) that it got 'caught up' in the 'sharp contests' among political parties. Appearing before a Bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi, senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi, for the ECI, pointed to the allegations raised against it about EVMs, and now the portrayal of the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar as 'citizenship screening'. 'Today is a time of sharp political contest. The ECI is caught up in this sharp contest between political parties,' Mr. Dwivedi submitted. Justice Kant referred to the situation as 'political hostility'. Mr. Dwivedi opened his counter-submissions to the SIR challenge by reminiscing how India had lived in a 'euphoric state' after Independence. During the time of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, the Congress had held 'complete sway'. From the late 1960s, Mr. Dwivedi said the political struggles and break-ups had emerged. 'The Congress split up, the Emergency, these were times when political contest came out sharply in the open,' he submitted: He then referred to the era of Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Seshan. 'He did many good things, but overstepped too,' Mr. Dwivedi said. He crossed over to the coalition governments and concluded with the EC bearing the brunt of the current political contest among parties. 'Political parties have the necessity to project certain things as realities in the public domain. We understand. We restrain ourselves,' Mr. Dwivedi said He referred to how the petitioners in the Bihar SIR case depict Bihar as living in a dark age. 'It is a land of enlightenment,' Mr. Dwivedi remarked. However, Justice Kant intervened to note with a reality-check that there were 'populations in Bihar living in poverty too'.

Supreme Court order on SIR is a massive victory for democracy: Congress
Welcoming the Supreme Court's direction to the Election Commission of India (ECI), allowing the use of Aadhaar for any 'non-included' voter in Bihar to challenge their omission from the electoral roll under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the Congress on Thursday called the order a 'beacon of hope'.
