Sleeping woman sexually assaulted at TriMet MAX station in Hillsboro
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Authorities are looking for information that could help identify a man accused of assaulting a sleeping woman at a TriMet MAX station.
Hillsboro police said the man assaulted the woman at the 12th and Washington MAX Station just before 4 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20.
Security footage showed the man leaving the scene in a van that appears to be a Chevrolet Express, according to investigators.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Hillsboro Police Department.

According to police, two people who began spray painting the building were arrested for first-degree criminal mischief. A third person was arrested for the same charge in connection to property damage at the PPB North Precinct in 2024. 'We recognize the heightened emotions surrounding the immigration issue, especially in light of recent events nationally and the situation unfolding in Los Angeles,' Chief Bob Day said. 'I do not want any misinformation about what occurred and that is why we are releasing body camera footage about what occurred Saturday night and sharing this information publicly.' These arrests came a day after Portland police had responded to a call from a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) contractor who said they were unable to move their van from the facility because the driveway was blocked by protesters. After speaking with the protesters, the area was cleared without any arrests or property damage. Chief Day shared the following statement to clarify PPB's role at these protests: 'I want to reiterate that state law and our own policy strictly prohibit the Portland Police Bureau from participating in immigration enforcement. Simply put, we have no role. In the situation on Saturday night, we responded to ensure that contractors could safely enter and park their van. On Sunday, we facilitated the crowd's movement from private property to an area where they could lawfully protest. Later on Sunday, we made arrests for criminal behavior. As always, we remain firmly committed to protecting everyone's right to peacefully express their views under the First Amendment. At the same time, we will continue to respond to criminal activity.' ‘Senseless ambush' kills mom of 5 at drum circle, OR reports say. Man convicted
A man has been convicted in a 'senseless ambush' that killed a woman at a drum circle event in Oregon, officials said. Wyatt Storm Belcher, 28, was found guilty of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon in Ash Smith's death following a jury trial, the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office said in a June 6 news release. McClatchy News reached out to Belcher's attorney June 9 and was awaiting a response. The shooting happened May 8, 2022, near the Willamette River in Portland, prosecutors said. The drum circle gathering began to break up, and 'multiple witnesses heard a loud bang and saw Ash Smith fall to the ground,' according to prosecutors. Multiple witnesses gave statements to police, prosecutors said, 'including descriptions of the person who shot Ms. Smith.' Belcher matched the descriptions and was found nearby, according to prosecutors, who said he had 'a .40 caliber Glock 23 holstered in his waistband.' Belcher and Smith were strangers to one another, KOIN reported, citing police. Smith, 31, was described in an online obituary as 'loving, energetic, and a true warrior.' The mom of five 'continuously fought for her place in this world, despite being given a bad hand time and time again' and she 'had an infectious laugh and was always a source of positivity, seeing the good in anybody,' the obituary said. In the news release, Deputy District Attorney Devin Franklin said, 'Ash Smith was truly an innocent victim. While she didn't deserve Wyatt Belcher's senseless ambush, she did deserve the compassion that the witnesses on scene showed her during her final moment. Three of those individuals had the strength to testify during this trial despite being deeply and personally affected by what they witnessed.' A sentencing hearing is scheduled June 9, according to online court records.
