Microsoft Raising Xbox Prices—And $79.99 Games Are Next
Microsoft is raising the prices of nearly its entire catalogue by a significant margin. In an announcement today, the company introduced a revised pricing structure that takes effect May 1, impacting Xbox Series consoles and accessories. The new structure includes a proposed $10 increase on software, adding more than 10 percent to the cost for consumers. However, this change to software pricing is scheduled to go into effect at a later date. Price hikes on Xbox hardware are being rolled out globally, with the exception of wireless headsets, which will only see increases in the U.S. and Canada.

The new pricing on Xbox consoles and peripherals is already live, according to the official Xbox announcement. Microsoft also stated: 'We also expect to adjust the pricing of some of our new, first-party games starting this holiday season to $79.99,' referencing Mario Kart World's confirmed $79.99 launch price for the Nintendo Switch 2, announced during the recent Nintendo Direct.
Xbox issued the following statement on the new pricing: 'We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development. Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and ensuring value for Xbox players.'
While both Xbox and Nintendo have committed to increasing software prices, it remains to be seen whether Sony will follow suit.

Microsoft is trying to poach Meta AI talent and offering multimillion-dollar pay packages, internal documents show
The software giant has compiled a list of its most-wanted Meta engineers and researchers, and is starting a new process intended to make offers more competitive, including a mandate to match Meta's compensation for top talent, according to insiders and internal documents viewed by Business Insider. Microsoft recently reported blowout earnings, sending its market valuation toward $4 trillion, thanks in large part to excitement around generative AI. Microsoft needs to lure top AI engineers and researchers to keep that success going. The company has cut thousands of employees this year but has insisted its headcount will remain flat, suggesting significant hiring plans. Matching Meta offers is no small feat. The social-media company has been making nine-figure offers for top AI talent. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has said Meta is offering $100 million signing bonuses to his engineers, and Meta has recently hired AI researchers with pay packages as high as $250 million. Microsoft documents viewed by Business Insider show the software company is making multimillion-dollar offers, and two people familiar with the process say multimillion-dollar on-hire bonuses for AI talent are becoming more common. Microsoft AI, a team run by former Google DeepMind cofounder Mustafa Suleyman, and CoreAI, another Microsoft group overseen by ex-Meta engineering boss Jay Parikh, have special recruiting teams to help with competitive offers, these people said. They asked not to be identified discussing sensitive, private matters. Parikh's organizational chart, recently viewed by Business Insider, shows much of his roster includes executives with whom he overlapped at Meta. A spreadsheet of Microsoft's most-wanted Meta employees lists individuals by name, location, and position, and includes tabs for teams and positions that Microsoft is targeting such as Reality Labs, GenAI Infrastructure and Meta AI Research. The spreadsheet is being shared among hiring managers on certain AI teams, according to a person familiar with the matter. Microsoft has started a new process for competitive offers, asking recruiters to mark candidates as "critical AI talent," which gets the attention of higher-ups who respond with Microsoft's top offer within 24 hours. Documents viewed by Business Insider show how that process works, such as providing "offer rationale" about the candidate's AI skills and experience, using a private "compensation modeler" to come up with a bespoke range for the candidate, and enlisting a compensation consultant. The new process could help Microsoft compete with AI talent outside of its traditional pay ranges. Business Insider recently published Microsoft's internal pay guidelines for engineers and researchers. The highest compensation package includes $408,000 in salary, $1.9 million in on-hire stock awards, nearly $1.5 million in annual stock awards, and annual cash bonuses as high as 90%. Those documents included an important carve-out for competitive situations, such as cases involving top AI talent, where recruiters can seek approval for higher offers for exceptional candidates.

These headphones rival Sony and Bose, fans say — they're just $32 for a short time
It's no mystery why Tozo earbuds are popular — the low price and high quality make for a compelling buy. Now, the company is hitting that sweet spot again with its over-ear HT2 Headphones, on sale at Amazon. Fans compare them to higher-end options like Sony or Bose, which should tell you something: It's time to grab a pair for yourself. They're down to $32 thanks to a limited-time Lightning Deal — the lowest we've ever seen them. Why is this a good deal? 💰 Those Sony headphones we mentioned? Some of them go for nearly $400. These Tozos are less than a tenth of that price. (Even Sony's most affordable option, the WH-CH520s, are $49.) At 36% off, Tozo's HT2s are the lowest price we've seen them and, quite frankly, a no-brainer. They're also available in seven colors, though prices vary by color. Why do I need these? 🤔 Let's start with the battery life. These cans get 60 hours of playback on a single charge, which is absolutely bonkers. That's more than 700 songs or nearly 10 coast-to-coast flights. The battery life drops a bit when you use ANC (active noise cancelling), but you're still looking at about 40 hours of crisp, clear audio excellence. Don't worry, though. Even if they do manage to run out of juice, you can connect them through a wired connection to continue listening without missing a (literal) beat. The 40-millimeter drivers produce fantastic sound, including crisp high notes and clear bass. The ear cups are made of soft leather and automatically adjust to your head. The Tozo app lets you tweak the settings for different types of music. When it's time to stop listening, these fold up for easy storage and transport. What reviewers say 💬 These headphones have nearly 3,000 happy fans who vouch for their quality. Pros 👍 "These were purchased to replace a pair of Sony CH520s that got paint all over them. I think these Tozo headphones are better in every regard," one fan said. "They are comfortable (I wear glasses). The ear cups are ergonomic; each side has a range of pivot at the headpiece; the headpiece is adjustable (fits my weird head); the crown of the headpiece has nice padding. ... They sound amazing. The bass is deep without any adjustments. The sound is clearly better than the Sony." Another thrifty reviewer also wrote that the sound is on par with higher-end models. "I lost a pair of Bose over-the-ear headphones (yes, that was a painful $375 loss). I wanted to buy another set, but not at $375. Then I read about the quality and reliability of this brand, Tozo! What a wonderful surprise. The quality is comparable to my previous set." "These are amazing," echoed a third thrilled buyer. "For the price, you will not find any better headphones out there. They are comfortable, noise-cancelling is excellent and the sound quality is unsurpassed. They pair very easily, and the app lets you adjust your EQ to suit your tastes. Great buy." Cons 👎 Just because they can be used wired doesn't mean there are no strings attached (so to speak). "One downside I found was [that] the wired connection does not allow for noise cancelling. So if you are connected to something like a laptop that doesn't have Bluetooth, they will then work like regular headsets. So you may want a Bluetooth adapter in that case," shared one shopper. (If you need one, we recommend the TP-Link Bluetooth Adapter.) Another fan offered an audio-related gripe: "My only complaint is the beeping sound the headphones make when they have a low charge. I wished the sound could have been a little bit less sharp." The reviews quoted above reflect the most recent versions at the time of publication.
