A look at Jomboy Media's rise from podcast to MLB partner
The partnership comes as MLB seeks to reach younger audiences through authentic digital content creators. Jomboy Media recorded 93 million social media engagements last year and has grown since its humble beginnings as a hobby podcast in 2017.
Co-founder Jake Storiale said the company never envisioned reaching this scale when he and Jimmy O'Brien started their weekly Yankees podcast.
"The original dream was maybe like the kooky spring training guys or something like that," Storiale said during an appearance on "CBS Mornings Plus" Monday. "And now it's turned into a 60-person business."
The deal represents years of parallel work between the organizations, according to Courtney Hirsch, the CEO of Jomboy Media and O'Brien's sister, who helped broker the partnership.
"We both have the same mission to grow the game and to serve baseball fans," Hirsch said. "It took years in the making."
What finally pushed the partnership over the finish line after years of discussions was the growing influence of digital content creators in sports, Hirsch said.
"I think the power of content creators is really undeniable, and the impact that they're having on sports," she said. "Major League Baseball recognizes that it's important to have authentic voices speaking to fans, and then also creating content on digital platforms like we do to reach people where they're at and create new fans because that's really our superpower."
Jomboy Media has expanded beyond baseball commentary to include multiple podcasts, TV shows and warehouse games featuring backyard-style sports competitions. The company's breakdown videos, which often include lip-reading analysis of on-field conversations and confrontations, have become particularly popular for bringing viewers closer to the action.
"Sports is the best reality television still," Storiale said. "The breakdown videos that Jimmy does, I mean it brings you on the field and that's kind of what fans want."
The company name originated from an iPhone autocorrect error that changed "Jimmy" to "Jomboy," which O'Brien adopted as his social media handle on his mother's advice to use a nickname online, Hirsch said.
Financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.

Amir Coffey signs with Milwaukee Bucks on training camp deal
Amir Coffey deserves an NBA roster spot. He is coming off a career season with the Clippers, averaging 9.7 points a game, shooting 40.9% from 3, playing 24 minutes a night on a 50-win team. However, that was not enough to get Coffey a standard NBA contract. He signed on Thursday with the Milwaukee Bucks, a story broken by Shams Charania of ESPN, but this is a training camp only contract for Coffey, reports Eric Nehm of The Athletic. Milwaukee already has the maximum of 15 players under contract for next season (and the veteran Coffey does not qualify for a two-way contract). Technically, the contract of Andre Jackson Jr. is not fully guaranteed. If the Bucks were willing to eat the $800,000 buyout price, they could let Jackson Jr. go and keep Coffey. It was thought that Jackson and Thanasis Antetokounmpo might battle it out in camp for that final roster spot, now Coffey's name is in that mix. This is a quality pickup for the Bucks — they need depth at the three and Coffey slots right in. It's a little surprising that reuniting with Doc Rivers — his first coach with the Clippers — was the best offer on the table for Coffey, but if the Bucks keep him around, he adds solid regular-season depth to a roster that could use it.

Putin Should Be Careful What He Wishes For
President Vladimir Putin might be forgiven for thinking the second Trump administration is a boon to Russia. In just a few months, President Trump has succeeded in antagonizing allies with his tariff spree and noncommittal statements on NATO — an organization Mr. Putin has derided as an 'anachronism.' His administration has dismantled foreign aid and declared war on 'gender ideology,' aligning the United States more closely with Russia's own illiberal policies. And by threatening to gobble up Canada, Greenland and the Panama Canal, Mr. Trump has appeared to license the irredentism that Mr. Putin would argue justifies the force with which Russia has pummeled Ukraine for more than three years. On Ukraine, Mr. Trump's inconsistency has been the only constant. He has blamed Volodymyr Zelensky, president of Ukraine, for starting the war; he has blamed Mr. Putin for prolonging it. And he has flip-flopped on U.S. weapons support, making it harder for Ukraine to reliably plan. Now an impatient Mr. Trump, obsessed with claiming the laurels of peacemaker, has precipitated a showdown in Alaska on Friday without Ukraine or Europeans present — a diplomatic coup for Russia. But Mr. Putin should be careful what he wishes for. In the world as it is being remade by Mr. Trump — with rules that are fluid, relationships protean and raw power the key currency — Mr. Putin's Russia, resource constrained and mired in the war in Ukraine, is going to find itself ill equipped to throw its weight around, whatever the outcome of Friday's summit. Consider the tariffs. Russia, already facing an economic slowdown, has little reason to gloat over America's imposition of tariffs on imports from more than 90 countries. A U.S. trade war could slow global growth and dampen demand for Russian commodity exports, forcing the Kremlin to cut nonmilitary spending or draw down its remaining reserves. Want all of The Times? Sealy has kept pace with the times by offering modern variations like memory foam and hybrid mattresses while also maintaining a strong lineup of traditional innerspring beds. For example, the Cocoon Chill by Sealy is one of our favorite cooling mattresses that passed our week of testing with flying colors. No Sealy promo code needed for this one, because you can bundle to save $29 with a purchase of two pillows. Sleep on It (Literally) With Sealy's 90-Night Trial and 10-Year Warranty Sealy offers you 90 nights and 10 years to back up your new mattress purchase, which is the industry standard. Your body needs at least 30 days to get used to the new bed, and 60 nights beyond that initial timeframe helps you be extra sure it's the one for you. Ten years is generally how long you can expect a mattress to last, so this is another way of Sealy standing by the durability of its product, whether you plan on buying online or in-store. Let Sealy Do the Heavy Lifting With Free Delivery With your Sealy purchase, you can plan on your new mattress being delivered and set up for you for free. This is a big deal, especially if you're someone who needs an extra set of helping hands—you can take a seat for this one and relax.
