
SUV topples seven times, kills 5 of 8 friends visiting temple in Bengaluru
Eight friends were heading to a temple in Gauribidanur taluk, Chikkaballapura district, in a rented Toyota Innova. Police said the accident happened around 10.45am between Nayakarandanahalli and Makali village of Doddaballapur on the state highway connecting to Gauribidanur.
The victims are Eshwarappa, 75; DN Kalappa, 69; Purushottam, 62; Gopinath, 52; Narasmiha Murthy, 50, driver of the Innova (registration number KA-04-AA-7425).
The injured are Kumara, 50; Srinivas, 55; Narayanappa, 60. Police said the friends were weavers, farmers and small-time businessmen. They would regularly go for morning and evening walks together.

They decided to visit Shri Bheemeshwara Temple near Manchenahalli, Gauribidanur taluk, and hired the MUV.
Murthy, who was driving the vehicle, overtook a truck on the curve of a narrow road and found a bus coming from the opposite direction. He tried to avoid the bus and pulled the steering to the left side, losing balance. As a result, the Innova rolled upside down at least seven times, according to police. The passengers were tossed in the air and fell on the road in different directions. The two-lane road has no divider.
Four persons died on the spot, while Gopinath succumbed within a few minutes after he was rushed to a nearby hospital.
A senior police officer said the stretch is accident-prone and advised people to drive slowly there.

College student steals gold worth Rs 1 crore from uncle's house in Bengaluru with 3 friends for trips, all arrested
Bengaluru: A college student allegedly teamed up with her male friends and stole gold ornaments from her paternal uncle's house in Byrarthi village for trips, parties, and clothes. The Kothanur police arrested four college students who stole over 1.6kg of gold ornaments on multiple occasions and recovered 548 grams of it and Rs 10 lakh in cash. The arrested accused, between 19 and 22 years old, have been identified as Sanchita, Yeshwanth, Ram Prakash, and Thanush. They are pursuing BBA and BCom in different colleges of the city. ‘Khujli' gang targets jeweller in Bengaluru, decamps with gold worth Rs 36L

Specialising in distracting its targets by spraying some itchy powdery substance on them before committing thefts, the gang has resurfaced in the city after nearly three years – its latest victim being a 62-year-old jeweller, who lost 385 grams of gold worth Rs 36 lakh. Gang of 6 held in Bengaluru, 70 stolen phones found
Bengaluru: A six-member gang that specialises in stealing mobile phones of BMTC bus passengers has been arrested, and 70 phones, an MUV and an autorickshaw have been recovered. The gang — operating since two years — targeted passengers in crowded buses and bus stops, police said. Their arrest followed the July 10 theft of Maula Hussain's phone in Kudlugate. Three suspects were nabbed on July 15 near Hosur Road, and three more the next day near Devanahalli. The gang's kingpin, Raghu, and two others are absconding.
