Hinjewadi civic woes: PMRDA to ensure median gaps to prevent waterlogging

Pune: Considering the severe waterlogging in Hinjewadi, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has decided to ensure adequate gaps in the central medians along the ongoing Metro Line 3 corridor to facilitate proper drainage of rainwater, senior officials from PMRDA told TOI on Saturday.
The decision comes following complaints of flooding during recent heavy rain.
PMRDA commissioner Yogesh Mhase told TOI on Saturday that the move follows consultations with the traffic police, after multiple stretches in Hinjewadi witnessed water accumulation, disrupting traffic. "If there are adequate gaps, water will not clog," Mhase said, adding that work is already underway at several stretches to address the issue.
He directed the Metro project concessionaire to clear all construction debris from roads, footpaths, and stormwater drains by June 22. "The work is in progress but has slowed due to persistent rain. However, efforts are being made at multiple locations along the corridor," he said. Median gaps have already been created in some areas, and trench work is also being carried out.

Rainfall returns to NE: Relief from heat, showers likely in some parts
Guwahati: The second spell of monsoon rains lashed the northeast and Assam in the last 24 hours, bringing much-needed relief to several areas that had been enduring scorching heat for nearly a week. In Guwahati, where waterlogging was reported in multiple locations, moderate rainfall ranging from 1.1cm to 1.9cm was recorded on Saturday afternoon. "Monsoon clouds have started hovering over NE again and for the next four days Assam and a few neighbouring states are likely to experience a good amount of rainfall. However, it is unlikely to be as intense as the first spell of monsoon rains experienced earlier this month," KN Mohan, head at regional meteorological centre (RMC) of the IMD, told TOI on Saturday. RMC on Saturday warned that heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura in the next 24 hours. However, regions that do not experience rainfall may see no respite from the heat. The Met office cautioned that hot and humid conditions will prevail over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Manipur in the next 24 hours. Take service road between Surathkal & Nanthoor: NHAI
Mangaluru: NHAI has directed two and three-wheeler users to use the service road between Surathkal and Nanthoor. The project director-cum-highway administrator, NHAI, project implementation unit, Mangaluru, stated on Saturday that coastal Karnataka is witnessing incessant rain since last month. Torrential monsoon and ongoing downpour have damaged some sections of national highways, making them unsafe for high-speed traffic. Considering the safety of NH users, the highway administration, in exercise of powers under Section 31 of the Control of National Highway, has asked two- and three-wheeler riders to use available service roads in the stretch from Surathkal to Nantoor Junction on NH-66 in Dakshina Kannada during the monsoon (till Sept). The speed limit between Surathkal and Nantoor Junction on NH-66 is 50km per hour. All national highway users are advised to drive within speed limits, stated a release. NHAI project director Abdulla Javed Azmi told TOI: "Accidents took place after being hit by heavy vehicles.
