Carlos Narváez's 11-inning 2-run homer lifts Red Sox over Phillies 9-8
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Carlos Narvaez hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning, Romy Gonzalez hit a grand slam in the fifth and the Boston Red Sox defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 9-8 on Wednesday night.
Narváez, who was called for a catcher's interference in each of the first two games of the series, hit a 97 mph fastball from Seth Johnson (1-1) into the front row of the left field seats.
Jesus Luzardo didn't allow a hit until a leadoff double to Masataka Yoshida to start the fifth.
Greg Weissert (3-3) earned the win, and Brennan Bernardino picked up his first save.
Philadelphia scored all of their runs prior to extra innings via the long ball.
Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper hit back-to-back homers in the first inning. Schwarber's homer was his 34th this season and fourth in six games since the All-Star break. Harper launched his homer into the second deck in right field. It was his 14th of the season and 350th of his career.
Nick Castellanos and Bryson Stott also hit solo homers for the Phillies to build Philadelphia's 5-0 lead. J.T. Realmuto added a solo shot in the eighth to force extra innings. Schwarber and Johan Rojas added RBI singles in extras. Key moment

Joc Pederson returns to Rangers lineup after missing 52 games with a broken hand
Associated Press ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Joc Pederson returned to the Texas Rangers' lineup Sunday after missing 52 games because of a broken right hand. Pederson, who joined Texas on a $37 million, two-year contract during free agency in December, was set to bat fifth as the designated hitter in the series finale against the Atlanta Braves. 'We signed Joc to be part of this offense, a big part of this offense, a guy that can hit in the heart of the order, drive in runs,' Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said before Sunday's game. 'He should make us a better offense." Pederson hit .131 with two home runs and six RBIs in his first 46 games with the Rangers. The two-time World Series champion was at .052 through 19 games after a 0-for-41 slump. The 33-year-old suffered the broken hand on May 24 when he was hit by a pitch, an 87.5 mph cutter from Chicago White Sox right-hander Bryse Wilson. Pederson was to make his 39th start, his 37th at DH, with two at first base. Bochy said Pederson again will primarily be a DH. After being part of the Los Angeles Dodgers' World Series title played at Globe Life Field to end the pandemic-impacted 2020 season, Pederson was with the Braves for their championship the following year. Associated Press PARIS (AP) — Slovenian rider Tadej Pogačar effectively sealed his fourth Tour de France title on Sunday after organizers decided to neutralize the times with 50 kilometers (31 miles) left because of the threat of rain and crashes. Freezing the times for the 21st and final stage into Paris all-but-ensured victory for Pogačar, but he still had to cross the finish line later in order to win. The decision was made in the late afternoon and, shortly after Pogačar reached 50 kilometers to go, heavy rain began falling and drenched the roads.
