Van Poortvliet relishing Tigers and Norfolk connection with Steward
Norfolk-born star Van Poortvliet, 24, was the matchwinner in the second of those Tests as a dramatic last-gasp try extended England's current winning streak to six matches.
Van Poortvliet and Steward, also 24 and from Norfolk, grew up playing rugby against each other and are both avid Norwich City fans away from the rugby field.
The bubbly duo have recruited several Tigers teammates to attend East Midlands away days with them and Van Poortvliet, who will start at scrum-half in the American capital this weekend, has revelled in the last few weeks alongside Steward and the rest of the squad.
'I've loved it – it's my first time in America, so we've done lots of historical bits and museums, which were great and very cool,' said Steward, who met many members of the Norwich squad when they went to watch Tigers train two years ago.
'Argentina was great – I've never toured there before so it was amazing to explore different parts of it.
'It's always nice touring but to top it off with two really good wins was amazing.
'To have a new experience of exploring a new county, touring and winning away has made this one of my favourite rugby experiences of my life.
'Me and Fred used to play each other before then both going to Leicester aged 13.
'Norfolk is my home and always will be – I grew up on a family farm there, so as soon as I finish my rugby career I'm going to be going back to Norfolk and carrying on with the farming there.
'And I'm still a massive Norwich fan – I don't get back as much as I'd like so it's quite good living in Leicester because there's a lot of Championship football teams around there!'
Borthwick's squad for the transatlantic trip has been diversely-assembled with many leading players away on The British & Irish Lions' tour to Australia.
That has thrust Van Poortvliet, who has earned 20 England caps, into a newfound leadership role as many younger faces get their first taste of life on tour.
He has relished that responsibility and reckons camaraderie away from the pitch – including daily viewing sessions of Love Island – has helped the group connect.
'I'm there if people need to ask questions, and I can share my experiences,' he added.
'If they want anything from me I can give that – rugby wise my role hasn't changed much but off the pitch, I've had a few more questions and probably been more of more help.
'The group have been amazing and such good fun – we've competed amazingly but enjoyed ourselves off the field as well.
'We started watching Love Island back in England – this season has been quite tasty so every night there's about 10 of us crammed into one room!
'I was one of the early pioneers for it – we watch in Fred's room as he's got a VPN.
'It's been great fun and very enjoyable.'
The match against the USA Eagles will be streamed live on RugbyPassTV and England Rugby's YouTube channel.

Brady says Birmingham must spend to stay above Wrexham
Birmingham beat Wrexham to the League One title last season, but it is the Welsh club who have splashed the cash ahead of the new season with six summer signings and Wales striker Nathan Broadhead reportedly set to join the Red Dragons in a club-record £7.5million transfer from Ipswich. 'We've got to (keep spending),' NFL quarterback great and Birmingham shareholder Brady told The Sports Agents podcast. Birmingham City co-owner Tom Brady has ambitious plans for the Championship club (Nick Potts/PA) 'We've got to keep up with one another. Wrexham have, I'd say, done an incredible job. I mean, you can't be anything but excited about what they've done for that club… I'm so impressed by Wrexham. 'What they do on the pitch, off the pitch, and again, they're in a great position to succeed as well.' Asked about the rivalry in a fixture that has been dubbed the 'Hollywood Derby', Brady said: 'We're going to talk a lot of smack in the meantime between all of us, because it's pretty fun theatre, and I think there's some little friendly side bets going on. 'But make no mistake, the people who are going to decide the fate of those games are the players wearing those jerseys.' Brady made 10 Super Bowl appearances and had seven victories – both individual records – in a storied 23-year NFL career between 2000 and 2022. Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds (right) and Rob McElhenney have invested heavily ahead of playing in the Championship this season (Martin Rickett/PA) The 47-year-old admits he would love to bring the Super Bowl to Birmingham once the club's new 62,000-seater stadium is built in Bordesley Green. He said: 'That would be pretty amazing. I don't make all those decisions. I'm not sure how much I can influence those decisions. 'But I think that my partner, Tom Wagner (Birmingham chairman), is an incredible man, incredible businessman. 'He has huge ambitions for the club, and I would never bet against anything that he tries to accomplish.' Former Celtic and Tottenham coach Chris Davies steered Birmingham to League One glory with a record 111 points from 46 games. Birmingham have bounced back after Wayne Rooney's short-lived 15-game reign and relegation to then third tier in 2023-24 (Bradley Collyer/PA) The previous season Birmingham were relegated to the third tier for the first time in 29 years, with former England captain Wayne Rooney having been sacked in January after just 15 matches in charge. Brady said: 'I think that's a very natural part of a growth process, that you are going to face adversities along the way. 'When I look back at those years, I'm very proud of what we accomplished because of what we overcame. 'Whatever happened two years ago or a year ago makes really no impact on where we're at now. 'I think this club has a great manager. The expectations and standards have been set at a different level, and we're going into this Championship season with great excitement. 'We want to restore it (Birmingham) to the glory that it's been in the past. To move up and to be promoted to the Premier League is a very daunting task, but it can be achieved.' ::The Sports Agents is available to listen to now on Global Player, or wherever you get your podcasts.

'I left rat race and moved my family to Italy – people ask me if I regret it'
A mum-of-three from the US has opened up about the assumptions people have made since her family decided to move to Italy and start a new life without American coffee, a tumble dryer or a car On a typical day, which may involve schedules, work stress, and other commitments, you may wonder what it would be like to give it all up to live a different, calmer life, even if just for a short while. You may pine to move to a new city, or swap the hustle and bustle for countryside. Others dream of studying or living abroad for a year or two. One mum, named Erica Galbreath, was left fed up with the daily "hustle and bustle" and wanted more adventure for herself, her husband and their three children. She has opened up about her journey after moving her family to Tuscany in Italy from the US. On Instagram, she admitted: "There's wasn't one lightbulb moment. No dramatic epiphany, no perfect timing. Just a quiet knowing that we wanted more. And somehow, Italy felt like the place to find it." Erica has been sharing updates of her journey on her Instagram page @travelingmuggles. While she has been inundated with support and positivity from others, many people have shared their presumptions about the family's choice to move. Before moving, Erica shared the "actual unhinged things people have said to me when I tell them I'm moving to Italy". One question Erica was asked stated: "Aren't you worried about moving your kids there? Don't you think this will be too hard on them!" Erica responded and candidly wrote: "Totally opposite. Say hello to never having active shooter drills again. The US isn't exactly the poster child for safety." She also noted that when people say that they "can't believe" she signed the children up for a traditional Italian school - and not an English speaking school in Italy - that it is "hands down the best way to learn the language and integrate". Erica further said people assume that the family is Catholic now, but they aren't. She has also received wild assumptions that she "forced" her husband to move, as Erica said: "He's been here less than a month and feels like this is the home he's always been missing." The family are enjoying adjusting to their new life. Erica said they given up their car because they are happy to walk and the public transport is good. She noted she doesn't miss the large American coffees and they do not have a tumble dryer - and dry their clothes outside like other Tuscany locals. "This is something I've wanted since I was a child," she admitted. Erica said her dad travelled for work when she was younger, and she felt inspired. One day she was on a hike and realised she had never fulfilled the dream of living abroad, so after speaking to her family and they decided to move to Italy 30 days later. She said people have told her she looks happy since the move. Erica added: "I left everything behind, stopped chasing a dream that wasn't mine, and moved my family to Tuscany." She noted: "We traded in the hustle for slow mornings, good wine and family time in Tuscany." The family don't plan on moving back to the US any time soon either.
