83 days till the Arizona Cardinals' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 83? With 83 days till the Cardinals open the season against the Saints, we look at the players who have worn No. 83.
We are counting down to the start of the 2025 regular season for the Arizona Cardinals and are now less than 12 weeks away. They will open the season on the road against the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 7. That is 83 days away.
As we count down the remaining days of the offseason, let's look at who has worn that number uniform over the years for the Cardinals.
Who has worn No. 83?

Tilley was the Cardinals' best No. 83, as he played for the team for over a decade. Edwards was solid as a special teams player and then spent over two decades in the front office before retiring in 2021.

Keith Poole's 82-yard touchdown catch is the Saints Play of the Day

Keith Poole's 82-yard touchdown catch is the Saints Play of the Day Our countdown to the New Orleans Saints' 2025 regular season opener is on Day 82, which makes this 82-yard catch by Keith Poole or choice for the Saints Play of the Day. It wasn't enough to win the day, but it did close the gap on the scoreboard and give Saints fans in attendance something to cheer for before the final whistle. You can see it for yourself here. As was often the case in this rivalry series, it went back and forth throughout the first three quarters with both teams trading body blows -- it wasn't until the Falcons scored back-to-back touchdowns in the fourth quarter, one off a defensive interception return, that Atlanta finally pulled away. Until that point the lead had changed hands three times, with New Orleans going into the fourth quarter trailing by a single point. And Poole gave the Falcons a scare on this 82-yard touchdown catch. He had already scored from 64 yards earlier in the second quarter, and this gave the Saints an opportunity to further cut into Atlanta's lead. It wasn't an opportunity they could capitalize on, however, and New Orleans fell 31-23. But at least their year didn't end in infamy like Atlanta. The Falcons made it all the way to Super Bowl XXXIII in Miami and lost to John Elway's Denver Broncos, a 34-19 embarrassment that was never really close. Ironically, the Saints would later play for a Super Bowl championship on that same field, and they showed Atlanta how to get the job done. The dirty birds still haven't figured it out.

The Red Sox messed it up with Rafael Devers — unless they knew exactly what they were doing

At this point, you can convince me that the Red Sox are all-time strategic clods or Machiavellian geniuses in how they handled the Rafael Devers situation. Because if they came to the decision that they only made Devers the highest-paid player in franchise history under post-Mookie Betts duress and were horrified over how he would age and wanted out of the eight years at $243.5 million due him after this season, then their tactics make perfect sense. If not, well … Advertisement Look, there was a moment in the past offseason when the Red Sox were positive they were trading with the Cardinals for Nolan Arenado or signing free agent Alex Bregman. At that point, the leadership of the organization had to get on a plane to meet with Devers and try to get him on board with the plan to move off third base.

Countdown to Kickoff: Treyton Welch is the Saints Player of Day 82

Countdown to Kickoff: Treyton Welch is the Saints Player of Day 82 Welch looks to beat the odds and grab a roster spot with the Saints this offseason We are inching closer to the 2025 NFL regular season, with now 82 days away from the New Orleans Saints opening game against the Arizona Cardinals. It will officially be the first game on the sidelines for new coach Kellen Moore, as the Saints expect improvement from their 5-12 mark in 2024. Tight end Treyton Welch currently wears number 82 for the Saints. After a stint on their practice squad in 2024, Welch is fighting for a spot on this year's active roster. Our Saints Player of the Day now gets a closer look at his background and career. From Buffalo High School in Minnesota, Welch wandered west collegiately to the University of Wyoming. He played sparingly in his first two years, catching only 5 passes in 13 game appearances. In 2021, Welch saw more action and had 19 receptions for 163 yards and 2 scores for the Cowboys. Welch had 308 receiving yards in both 2022 (22 catches) and 2023 (31 catches) while scoring a combined 7 touchdowns. He was second among Wyoming players in receiving yards in 2022 and second on the team in receptions during the 2023 campaign. Not selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, Welch was signed by the Cleveland Browns. In three preseason games, Welch caught 7 passes for 53 yards. Cleveland released him at the end of the preseason. New Orleans would promptly sign him to their practice squad. Welch remained on the Saints practice squad all season and has yet to see any regular season action. Treyton Welch has a lot of competition to make the roster for New Orleans this summer. The Saints return starter Juwan Johnson, along with Foster Moreau and the versatile Taysom Hill. Dallin Holker also returns after spending his 2024 rookie campaign on the practice squad. Additionally, the Saints also used a seventh round draft choice on UCLA tight end Moliki Matavao and signed Jack Stoll in free agency. Welch was at his best as a move tight end at Wyoming, most effective as a receiver in motion or from the slot. He has solid hands and decent open field agility to turn some heads as a receiver. If Welch can improve his blocking and his routes as an in-line tight end, he just might surprise when roster decisions are made.
