War 2 vs Coolie: Rajinikanth beats Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR in advance booking collections, who will dominate at the box office?

On Thursday, August 14, just before Independence Day, two action thrillers will clash at the box office. On one side is 'Spy Universe's' 'War 2', which this time stars Junior NTR and Kiara Advani alongside Hrithik Roshan. On the other side is Lokesh Kanagaraj's Tamil crime drama 'Coolie', which stars superstar Rajinikanth in the lead role. While 'War 2', directed by Ayan Mukherjee, is a sequel to 'War' released in 2019, 'Coolie' is a stand-alone film. Advance booking for both has already begun. Can Rajiniaknth's Coolie beat Hrithik Roshan's War 2?
The countdown to the release has begun and in the initial figures of pre-booking, 'Coolie' has beaten 'War 2' badly. However, there are still three days left including Monday, so the tables could turn by Wednesday! Before we look at the advance booking figures, it is important to know that the advance booking for 'War 2' started on Sunday, August 10. While the advance booking for 'Coolie' started on the evening of August 8 with limited screens. As of Monday afternoon, 6978 shows are being pre-booked for 'War 2' in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions. While for 'Coolie', advance booking is going on for 6111 shows in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada. 'War 2' advance booking report
According to the report of Sacnilk, till 12 noon on Monday, a total of 67886 tickets of 'War 2' have been booked in advance for the opening day. Due to this, it has earned a gross of Rs 2.40 crore. The Hindi version has earned 2.20 crores, which includes all three 2D, IMAX and 4DX. The Tamil version has earned 5.53 lakhs and the Telugu version has grossed 14.62 lakhs. 'Coolie' Advance Booking Report
On the other hand, Rajinikanth starrer 'Coolie' has grossed Rs 14.80 crore in advance booking till Monday morning. So far 716949 tickets of this film have been sold for the first day. The highest pre-booking of this Lokesh Kanagaraj film is obviously happening in Tamil, from where it has earned 14.39 crores. Apart from this, 29.25 lakhs have been earned from Hindi, 10.41 lakhs from Telugu and 1.07 lakhs from Kannada version. Both the films have a pan India star cast
An interesting coincidence is that the makers have tried their best to make both the films pan-India. While Telugu superstar Junior NTR is playing the villain in 'War 2', Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is doing a cameo in 'Coolie'. Budget and cast of 'Coolie'
The budget of 'Coolie', which is being made under the banner of Sun Pictures, is said to be Rs 375 crore. This is the 171st film of Rajinikanth's career. It also stars Nagarjuna and Shruti Haasan. With 'Coolie', Rajinikanth is also completing his 50 years in the film industry. The film has music by Anirudh Ravichander. Budget and cast of 'War 2'
On the other hand, there is more pressure on 'War 2'. This is because it is the sequel of a blockbuster film. 'War', which came in 2019, featured Hrithik Roshan along with Tiger Shroff, Ashutosh Rana and Vaani Kapoor. While Hrithik and Ashutosh will be seen again in their roles of a superspy and his boss in this sequel, this time Kiara Advani is the lead actress and Junior NTR is coming as the villain. The budget of 'War 2' is around Rs 400 crore.

Coolie Movie: Release Date, Ticket Prices, Advance Booking, Box Office Collection Prediction, and other details

Coolie Movie Release Date: Coolie is undoubtedly one of the biggest Indian film releases of the year, and the Rajinikanth starrer is already setting new industry benchmarks with its advance sales figures. With two days to go before its worldwide release, trade reports indicate unprecedented numbers for the Tamil cinema industry. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, this action tentpole boasts one of the year's most impressive ensemble casts, featuring Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, and Sathyaraj alongside Rajinikanth. Following the blockbuster success of Leo, Lokesh Kanagaraj joins hands with Rajinikanth this time for Coolie. The team has been very careful not to let out any major plot points. The trailer, featuring Rajinikanth in a violent avatar, helped build on the already increasing hype levels for the movie. The 'A'-certified Coolie is rumored to be part of the 'Lokesh Kanagaraj Cinematic Universe' (LCU). However, the makers have been firm in refuting these claims. The LCU factor remains a key talking point in the film's massive business prospects, as Lokesh Kanagaraj's previous four films have been widely celebrated for their interconnected storylines and recurring characters within the same cinematic universe. Fan favorites include 'ROLEX,' played by Suriya in Vikram, and 'Dilli,' played by Karthi, both sparking speculation about potential extended cameos in Coolie. Coolie will be hitting theatres across the world on August 14. The movie will clash with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's YRF spy actioner War 2, which is also scheduled for the Independence Day weekend. Coolie has cinematography by Girish Gangadharan, while Philomin Raj handles the editing duties. One of the main USPs of the film is the musical score by Anirudh Ravichander, whose collaborations with Lokesh in the past have been particularly well received. While there's been no official confirmation from the team regarding the budget, reports suggest the film cost around Rs 400 crore. This comes as no surprise given its star-studded cast, featuring some of the biggest names in Indian cinema, including Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, and Upendra. Ahead of Coolie's release, ticket prices have seen a sudden spike across the country. In multiplexes in Bengaluru and Chennai, prices have risen sharply, ranging from Rs 800 to Rs 2,000 per ticket depending on location and seating category. BookMyShow has set the minimum baseline for Coolie tickets at Rs 500. Fans and moviegoers were taken by surprise at the steep charges when bookings opened in various cities over the past few days. Despite the surge, demand remains strong, with most Day 1 shows in Bengaluru and Chennai already sold out well in advance. Coolie has dominated the box office race so far, leaving War 2 trailing by a wide margin in many cities. The film has already raked in over Rs 20 crore from advance bookings across India, selling approximately nine lakh tickets nationwide, with Tamil Nadu emerging as the biggest contributor. Globally, advance booking figures have crossed the Rs 50 crore mark, with no signs of the hype slowing down. Opening-day collections are expected to be in the range of Rs 100 crore.

Box Office: War 2 begins to gain momentum in North America premieres, Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer races past USD 500K already

War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Kiara Advani, and Jr NTR, is gaining good momentum at the North American box office. The spy universe movie has surpassed the USD 500K mark in its premieres, with two days still to go. War 2 zooms past USD 500K mark in North America With two days still to go before the release, the Yash Raj Films' production venture has stormed past the half-million mark in North America. Currently standing around the USD 525K mark, War 2 should aim to continue its momentum in the next two days. If the movie manages to witness a big jump in its final two days, it might have a chance of hitting the USD 1 million mark for the premieres. Talking about the USA premieres sales alone, War 2 sold over 18,000 tickets in around 1850 shows across 695 locations. The Hrithik-NTR movie fetched an advance of over USD 470K in the USA. War 2 eyes a good start at the box office War 2 is a Hindi movie that is dubbed in Telugu and Tamil versions. Since Hindi movies generally don't have premieres, War 2's advance booking in North America is pretty reasonable. However, better traction was expected since Jr NTR is essaying the role of the main antagonist. Unlike Hindi, South movies usually have frontloaded premieres in the international markets, thanks to better cinema culture among the audience. Though War 2 is trailing behind Rajinikanth's Coolie in North America, it still has the potential to record a solid opening day. Moreover, the spy actioner will dominate the Hindi regions by a big margin, with chances of leading in Telugu states too, depending on showcasing and audience reception. War 2 in cinemas on August 14th War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, is releasing in cinemas on August 14, 2025. You can book your tickets from the online ticket-booking websites or grab them from the counter itself. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.
