Delhi CM Rekha Gupta holds review meeting for preparations for Kanwar Yatra 2025
New Delhi [India], June 17 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta convened a high-level review meeting on Tuesday to discuss the preparations for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra 2025, focusing on planning, arrangements, and facilities for the devotees during the yatra.
In a post on X, the Delhi Chief Minister's Office (CMO) stated that the meeting was held with the focus to ensure a seamless and respectful experience for the lakhs of Shiv bhakts expected to participate.
Gupta directed that every devotee should receive respect, facilities, and security, emphasising that the event is not only a festival of faith but also an opportunity for service and dedication.
'Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta held a high-level review meeting today at the Delhi Secretariat regarding the preparations for Kanwar Yatra 2025. In the meeting, the planning, arrangements and facilities to be provided to the devotees of Kanwar camps to be set up in Delhi this year were discussed in detail,' the CMO stated.
'The Chief Minister directed that it should be ensured that every Shiv devotee gets respect, facilities and security. She said that Kanwar Yatra is not only a festival of faith but also an opportunity for service and dedication. The Delhi government will ensure its organisation with devotion, arrangements and sensitivity,' it added.
The meeting was attended by Cabinet Ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra, and senior officials from relevant departments at the Delhi Secretariat.
Following the meeting, the Delhi CM detailed the setup of Kanwar camps across Delhi, with a focus on improving the infrastructure and services compared to previous years under the AAP government. She noted that the camps are scheduled to operate from July until Sawan Shivratri.
'The government will pay special attention to the lakhs of Shiv bhakts who come to Delhi with Kanwar. They will be provided with facilities. The government will work towards eliminating the irregularities in the aid and arrangements that used to happen during the time of the previous governments. Kanwar camps will start from July and will continue till Shivratri,' she stated.
Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, who was present at the meeting, elaborated on the government's commitment, saying, 'Lakhs of people take part in the Kanwar Yatra in Delhi, and the Chief Minister has decided that special preparations will be made to serve the Kanwariyas, and a grand Kanwar Yatra will be taken out in Delhi. This meeting was called for those special arrangements. The Chief Minister and the Cabinet Ministers are sitting with all the organisers of the Kanwar Seva Samiti, and a grand and beautiful Kanwar Yatra will be taken out in Delhi. We are all ready to serve every Kanwariya.'
In the Kanwar Yatra procession, Kamwariyas collect water from a river and carry it hundreds of kilometres to offer it to the shrines of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu beliefs, Parshuram, a devotee of Shiva and Lord Vishnu's avatar, participated in the initial procession. Devotees across the country perform worship, fasting and pilgrimage dedicated to the Lord Shiva. (ANI)

‘India-Canada relations extremely important': PM Modi meets Mark Carney at G7 summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with his Canadian counterpart, Mark Carney, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada on Tuesday night (local time). Modi said relations between India and Canada are 'extremely important' and the two leaders look forward to working closely to add momentum to the friendship. This was the first meeting between the two leaders since Carney assumed office in May 2025. Modi complimented Canadian PM Carney on the successful hosting of the summit and expressed his enthusiasm for strengthening India-Canada relations and emphasised the shared commitment to democracy, freedom, and the rule of law that binds India and Canada together. PM Modi's visit to Canada comes after a period of friction between New Delhi and Ottawa, triggered by Canadian allegations that Indian agents were involved in the killing of NIA-designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar outside a gurdwara in Canada in 2023. India had strongly rejected the allegations. The diplomatic standoff escalated as both countries expelled senior diplomats in a tit-for-tat response. New Delhi has consistently voiced concerns about extremism and anti-India activities on Canadian soil and urged Canadian authorities to take concrete steps to curb such elements. The two nations agreed to return ambassadors to each other's capitals, turning the page on a bitter spat over Nijjar's assassination as Canada's new leader Carney welcomed counterpart Narendra Modi. PM Carney, who took office in March, had invited Modi to the Canadian Rockies as a guest at the summit of the Group of Seven major economies. Carney's predecessor Justin Trudeau last year publicly accused India of involvement in the assassination of a Sikh separatist on Canadian soil and expelled the Indian ambassador, triggering a furious reciprocal response from India. During the meeting, PM Modi expressed gratitude for the invitation extended to India to participate in the high-level gathering. "I am very grateful to you for inviting India to G7 and I am also fortunate that I have got this opportunity to visit Canada once again after 2015 and connect with the people of Canada," he said, news agency ANI reported. This marks his sixth consecutive participation in the G7 Summit and his first visit to Canada in a decade. PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome at the Calgary airport, where India's acting high commissioner, Chinmoy Naik, was among those who received him. In his opening remarks ahead of the meeting, Mr. Carney said it was a great honour to host PM Modi at the G7. PM Carney also expressed his appreciation for Modi's presence and leadership. Delhi govt to take care of all facilities for Kanwar Yatra: CM
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday announced that the Delhi government will oversee arrangements for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra through its ministers, district development committee (DDC) chairpersons, and district magistrates (DMs). She said all permissions related to kanwar camps and committees, as well as redressal of grievances, will be facilitated through a single-window system. 'Kanwar Yatra is a festival of faith, devotion, and discipline, and the government will take every possible step to make it smooth and efficient… It will extend full support to these committees in ensuring the provision of electricity, water, medicines, sanitation, and other necessary amenities,' said the CM. Taking a dig at the previous AAP government, she said, 'Despite crores of rupees being spent earlier, Shiv bhakts faced numerous difficulties. This time, we will not let that happen… Necessary permissions will be granted through the single-window system. We will make the entire system transparent so that Kanwar committees can get full benefit from government support.'

We want to provide the people of Delhi with the best of health facilities. The entire team is working on a mission that not a single penny made in the interest of Delhi is wasted,' Gupta further stated. Last month on May 18, in a major health initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Vay Vandana Yojana, Delhi Minister Ashish Sood distributed Ayushman Bharat cards to senior citizens aged 70 and above in Janakpuri, West Delhi.
