'I loved the 90s. Take me back' star of BBC comedy set ....in the 90s
Sian Gibson is back as Kath in series 2 of the series, set in the 1990s.
She said: "I loved the 90s. Take me back."
In series 2, Kath, Martin and her sister Diane are all trying their best to get along.
Martin (Conleth Hill) is down on his luck, Diane is running Parker's with Sandy Copper (Steve Pemberton) and Kath just wants everyone to be happy. But Kath's constant interfering changes all of their lives forever. They'll need to depend on each other now more than ever, but who do they trust?
This is what Sian, the star of Car Share with Bolton's Peter Kay has to say about series 2, now showing on BBC and iPlayer
Tell us where we pick up with Kath in Series 2?
The series is set two years later in 1992 and Kath thinks she has exactly what she always wanted in life. She's living with Martin and finally has her man to herself, and she's also rekindled her relationship with her sister, Diane.
She should be living the dream, but instead she's worried that Martin has 'lost his sparkle' now he's not the boss of his own electrical store, and she is still feeling guilty for betraying Diane.
There's a power shift between Martin and Diane, and Kath feels stuck in the middle of them both. Kath thinks if she can sort out Martin and Diane's problems then everyone will be happy, and they can all live happily ever after. Unfortunately, her interfering doesn't go to plan and she manages to make everything worse, throwing them all into chaos.
How has Kath's relationship with Martin and Diane changed since Series 1?
Kath and Diane have put their differences behind them and are getting to know each other again and actually getting on! Kath wants to make it up to Diane for having an affair with her husband. (So yeah, she has a lot of making up to do! ) Kath has never really stood up for herself but she won't let anyone hurt her sister and will happily stand up for Diane whatever the cost.
This is all much to the annoyance of Martin who hates his girlfriend being mates with his ex wife, meaning Kath is having to sneak around behind his back to see Diane. Kath and Martin are scraping a living on Kath's wage, but Kath has never been money motivated and loves that she now has Martin all to herself with their relationship now out in the open. Kath senses that Martin isn't happy with his new arrangement and does what she can to try and make him happy.
Kath has always been the eternal optimist and just wants her happy ending, but the cracks are starting to show now and she is questioning her life choices and who she can trust.

BBC comedy The Power of Parker recap and ending explained ahead of series 2
Everything to know as BBC comedy The Power of Parker returns for series 2
Do you have a favourite moment from filming?
This is a massive cliche, but we have such an amazing cast, crew and production team that every day was such a laugh. I feel very lucky to work with such lovely people - I can't really call it work!
What can we expect from Kath in this series?
It's a rollercoaster for Kath in this series, she's all over the place. In her quest to put everything right for everyone else, she has a fight at a party, gets into trouble with her dad, leans on her old friends for advice and meets a blast from her past. She's got a lot going on this series!
How was the writing process for this series? Did you always know you wanted to take the characters in a new direction?
Paul and I love writing this series, we know each other so well and know what will make each other laugh which is usually spending our days stuck down a YouTube rabbit hole watching early 90s Top Of the Pops episodes. Knowing the characters more this time really helped, and we knew we had to raise the stakes for the characters and increase the jeopardy. We've also added some new characters, Mic and Ash, played by Diane Morgan and Navin Chowdhry who are both fabulous and take the series in a completely new direction.
Do you have a favourite outfit from Series 2?
Our costume team were fantastic, and all the costumes and accessories were vintage from 1992 and earlier. Kath wears a particularly fabulous red dress in one episode but let's just say there's a lot of lycra and a lot of Spanx were used in the making of this series.
What were you doing in 1992?
I was starting my A-Levels in 1992. The world was my oyster. I was a wannabe goth, with dyed cherry red hair, Doc Martins and an array of band t-shirts like The Cure, The Smiths and Pearl Jam. I was using fake ID to go to Indie Nights at the local nightclub but in reality, I liked nothing better than wearing sequins and dancing to show tunes in my bedroom.
What's one thing from 1992 you'd like to bring to the present day?
I can't name just one thing. T'Pau, Quantum Leap, Body Shop's Dewberry Oil.. I loved the 90s. Take me back.

Gary Lineker shortlisted for National Television Award after BBC exit
Gary Lineker has been shortlisted for the National Television Award for best TV presenter, just months after his exit from Match Of The Day. The former footballer will face off against Ant & Dec, who have won the prize for 23 years in a row. Lineker exited the BBC's flagship football show in May after 26 years, following a row after he shared a post about Zionism, which featured a depiction of a rat, historically an antisemitic insult. He issued an unreserved apology over the social media post, as it was confirmed he would leave his presenting role at the BBC early and would no longer front coverage of the 2026 World Cup or next season's FA Cup. Earlier this month, it was announced that he has signed up to present a new ITV game show called The Box, which will be filmed in the UK later this year and air in 2026. Lineker and Ant & Dec will compete for the television presenter prize against Alison Hammond, best known for her appearances on This Morning and The Great British Bake Off; The Traitors and Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman; and Sort Your Life Out presenter Stacey Solomon. The NTAs will be hosted by comedian Joel Dommett at The O2 in London on September 10, where Adolescence stars Owen Cooper and Stephen Graham, who play on-screen father and son, will go head-to-head for the drama performance prize. They will compete against Tom Hardy for crime drama MobLand and Rose Ayling-Ellis for her performance as a lipreader called in to aid police in the thriller Code of Silence, while Brenda Blethyn is recognised for her final case as the eponymous detective in Vera. Adolescence, the juggernaut Netflix drama about a teenage boy who is arrested for murdering a classmate, is also in the running for the new drama prize. Also nominated are the adaptation of Jilly Cooper's Rivals, the gangster saga MobLand, Code Of Silence and the cryptic comedy drama Ludwig. The eagerly anticipated TV return of Gavin & Stacey at Christmas is shortlisted for the comedy prize, competing against stalwart Mrs Brown's Boys, crime caper Brassic and Michael McIntyre's 25th Year Stand-Up Special. Comedian McIntyre is also recognised with a nod in the Bruce Forsyth entertainment award category, for his variety show Michael McIntyre's Big Show, facing off against The Graham Norton Show, The Masked Singer and panel game Would I Lie to You? He is also in the running for the quiz show prize, with a nod for his programme The Wheel, alongside nods for Richard Osman's House of Games, The 1% Club and The Chase. Flintoff, in which former cricket star Freddie Flintoff opened up about his life-changing Top Gear car crash, is shortlisted for the authored documentary prize. It is in the running alongside There's Only One Rob Burrow, which paid tribute to the late rugby league player-turned-MND campaigner; Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me, about Strictly professional Amy Dowden's battle with cancer; and reality star Molly-Mae Hague's tell-all Molly-Mae: Behind It All as well as Boyzone: No Matter What, which chronicled the rise and tragedy of the 90s boyband. TV personality Solomon has two nominations in the factual entertainment category, where her lifestyle show Sort Your Life Out and fly-on-the-wall series with husband Joe Swash – Stacey & Joe – are both contenders. They face competition from Jeremy Clarkson's agricultural shenanigans in Clarkson's Farm, as well as Gogglebox and The Martin Lewis Money Show Live. Meanwhile, The Great Pottery Throw Down has earned its first nomination for the talent show prize, securing a nod alongside Strictly Come Dancing, The Voice UK, Britain's Got Talent and The Great British Bake Off. The National Television Awards will be broadcast live on ITV1 and ITVX from 8pm on September 10, with the final round of voting now open.

Sabrina Carpenter, sombr, Alex Warren & More to Perform on 2025 MTV VMAs
Sabrina Carpenter is set to perform on the MTV Video Music Awards for the second year in a row. Last year, the pop sensation performed a three-smash medley – 'Please Please Please,' 'Taste' and 'Espresso' – and won song of the year for 'Espresso.' Carpenter is up for eight awards this year, including video of the year ('Manchild') from her upcoming album Man's Best Friend. More from Billboard Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars Are 1-2 in Nominations for 2025 MTV VMAs (Full List) LL COOL J to Host 2025 MTV VMAs MTV VMAs Finally Add a Country Category for 2025: Here's When Other Genres Got Their Own Categories Alex Warren, Busta Rhymes, J Balvin featuring DJ Snake, Ricky Martin and sombr are also set to perform on the show. The 2025 VMAs, hosted by LL COOL J, will air live coast-to-coast from New York's UBS Arena on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Warren and sombr are both nominated for best new artist at the VMAs. Both are almost certain to be nominated in that category at the Grammys, as Carpenter was last year. Last year's VMA winner for best new artist, Chappell Roan, went on to win the Grammy in that category. (This year's other VMA nominees for best new artist are Ella Langley, Gigi Perez, Lola Young and The Marías.) Warren is also nominated for best pop and song of the year for his global No. 1 smash 'Ordinary.' Sombr is also nominated for best alternative for his hit 'back to friends,' one of three songs of his on the current Billboard Hot 100 (along with 'Undressed' and '12 to 12'). This is billed as sombr's awards show debut. Busta will receive the MTV VMA Rock the Bells Visionary Award, presented by host LL COOL J (who had a hit in 1986 titled 'Rock the Bells'). Martin will be honored with the inaugural Latin Icon Award. Martin's award honors a four-decade career that launched Latin music and culture into the mainstream. Martin's VMAs return marks the 26th anniversary of his first VMAs performance. On the 1999 telecast, he performed 'She's All I Ever Had' and his hip-swiveling global smash 'Livin' La Vida Loca.' The latter video won five awards: best pop video, best dance video and three International Viewer's Choice awards. Busta's award celebrates boundary-breaking cultural impact. Busta made his first VMAs appearance in 1997, when he presented best dance video alongside Martha Stewart. His most recent appearance was performing an extended hits medley in 2021. Busta received a Global Icon award at the 2024 MTV EMAs. J Balvin returns to the VMAs with his latest hit 'Zun Zun,' joined by Latin stars Justin Quiles and Lenny Tavárez. He'll then team up with producer DJ Snake – making his first VMAs appearance – for the live premiere of their collab 'Noventa.' Balvin, who last performed on the VMAs in 2022, is hoping to take home his sixth Moon Person this year. That would break him out of a tie with Martin as the leading Latin award winner in VMA history. Additional performers, presenters and special guests will be revealed in the coming weeks. Lady Gaga leads the nominations for the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards with 12 nods, followed closely by her 'Die With a Smile' duet partner Bruno Mars, who has 11 nods. Other top contenders are Kendrick Lamar (10), ROSÉ and Sabrina Carpenter (eight each), Ariana Grande and The Weeknd (seven each) and Billie Eilish (six). MTV has yet to announce this year's recipient of the Video Vanguard Award, but Billboard's Andrew Unterberger listed eight likely candidates – in ascending order of perceived likelihood. (Last year, he correctly predicted Katy Perry as the Vanguard recipient, so he knows what he's talking about.) This will mark the first time the show has been broadcast by CBS. It will also simulcast on MTV and stream on Paramount+ in the U.S. The 2025 MTV VMAs are executive produced by Bruce Gillmer, Den of Thieves co-founder Jesse Ignjatovic, and Barb Bialkowski. Gunpowder & Sky CEO Van Toffler is producer. Alicia Portugal is co-executive producer. Jackie Barba is executive in charge of production. Wendy Plaut is executive in charge of celebrity talent. Lisa Lauricella is executive in charge of music talent. This marks Toffler's return to the show following a decade-long absence. What we know about Strictly 'cocaine' scandal as police investigate
The Met Police and the BBC are investigating after two of the show's stars were accused of taking the class-A drug The Met Police is investigating allegations of drug use on Strictly Come Dancing. It was "widely known" that two stars of the BBC show allegedly took the class A substance, The Sun on Sunday reported. The Met has now said it had "received an allegation about drug-related offences". In a statement, it added: "Police are assessing the information and further enquiries are taking place to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence being committed." The drug-taking allegations first emerged in a legal submission to the BBC from law firm Russells on behalf of former celebrity contestant Wynne Evans, according to the newspaper. Evans's own time with Strictly wasn't without controversy; he was forced to quit the tour after he made an "inappropriate and unacceptable" comment during its launch, and consequently, BBC Radio Wales didn't renew his contract. Who are the Strictly stars accused of drug taking? The Sun on Sunday reported that there were two Strictly stars accused of drug taking. Those two stars in question have not been named by the newspaper. It was reported that the two stars will be offered professional support behind the scenes. BBC offered no comment on this. What has the BBC said? BBC News reported that the broadcaster is understood to have enlisted the help of a law firm to support the investigation into the allegations of drug taking. External law firms report back to internal teams in cases like this, Yahoo UK understands. The investigation is being led by the BBC, not the law firm. A BBC spokesperson said: "We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further." The Sun reported the possibility of random drug tests being implemented into the Strictly tour. However, Yahoo UK understands that there are no plans to introduce further measures at this time. Changes to Strictly Come Dancing BBC made a number of changes to Strictly Come Dancing's welfare last July, behind the scenes. Chaperones now attend every rehearsal room, and there were two new welfare producers appointed as part of the new measures. Additional training is now provided for the dancers, production team and crew. New measures were put in place after allegations were made about some of the professional dancers. Strictly's pro dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima left the show in the wake of allegations about their behaviour toward their dance partners Amanda Abbington and Zara McDermott. Former dance partner Abbington made allegations of bullying and harassment claims against Pernice, who had denied the claims; some of the complaints were upheld, but not all of them. Strictly Come Dancing will return in the autumn with two new professional dancers and celebrities taking part in the show. Yahoo UK has reached out to the BBC and Wynne Evans' representatives for further comment. Solve the daily Crossword
