Weather Alert Forecasts 2-Day Snowfall in Morocco

Morocco World17-02-2025

Rabat – Morocco's General Directorate of Meteorology has announced a two-day snowfall alert, with altitudes exceeding 1,800 meters.
The weather office said snowfalls of 15 to 30 centimeters are expected in the provinces of Beni Mellal, Azilal, Al Haouz, Ouarzazate, and Midelt.
The same weather concerns Tinghir, while snowfall between 10 and 15 centimeters is expected during the same period in Boulemane, Ifrane, and Khenifra.
Several Moroccan provinces have been experiencing snowfall and thunderstorms this month, but observers believe it is not enough to tackle drought affecting the country's agricultural season for six consecutive years.
Moroccan crops have gravely suffered under the drought, including the wheat harvest which is predicted to decline by approximately 50% in the 2024-2025 season, according to estimates from experts.
Morocco's government is turning to importing wheat and other agricultural products to meet local demand.
Last year in November, the Russian Grain Union said Morocco imported 222,000 tons of wheat from Russia. The number represents a notable increase compared to 119,000 tons during the same period in 2023.
Data compiled by the Agroexport Center said Russia became the leader among wheat suppliers to Morocco.
Russia surpassed France, which had been the largest seller to the North African country.
Morocco's import of wheat reached more than one million tons in 2024, alongside legumes and barely, among other agricultural products like honey.
In total, the North African country's agricultural products imports from Russia amounted to nearly $280 million last year. Tags: delay in rainfall in MoroccoHeavy snowfall

Temperatures to Soar up to 43 Celsius to Hit Morocco in Several Moroccan Provinces

Rabat – A new heatwave will hit several provinces across Morocco, with temperatures expected to reach between 38 and 43 degrees Celsius. An orange level alert by the General Directorate of Meteorology said the alert concerns the provinces of Ouezzane, Guercif, Taza, Taounate, Khouribga, Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, and El Kelaa Sraghna. Morocco witnessed a series of heat waves recently, extending to several provinces across the country in the past few weeks. On June 2, weather experts said that Morocco is expected to face continued hot weather, especially in the eastern regions, as well as the southeast and central provinces. The situation is due to a thermal low-pressure system in the south and southeast of the country, which is pushing temperatures higher in those regions. The highest temperatures are expected to range between 36 and 42 degrees in he far southeast and parts of the eastern and southern desert provinces, according to experts, who also expect similar temperatures or slightly lower to hit the plains west of the Atlas Mountains, the southeastern slopes, and the eastern region. Temperatures will range between 23 and 29 degrees in coastal areas. The hot weather is coinciding with Eid Al Adha festivities, which will begin on Saturday. Morocco canceled the Eid Al Adha sacrifice ritual, but many Moroccan families will cook barbecue chicken and beef as well as other delicacies to enjoy the festive atmosphere. The reported heatwaves are expected to contribute to the ongoing drought Morocco has been witnessing for six years in a row, and temperatures are only expected to rise as the summer season is underway. Hot Weather Expected to Continue Across Morocco This Week

Rabat – Morocco is expected to face continued hot weather this week as an early heatwave pushes temperatures well above normal for this time of year. The heat began in the last week of May and is affecting several regions across the country. According to El Houssein Youaabed, head of communication and partnership at the General Directorate of Meteorology, the hot weather is expected to continue for the next three days in the eastern regions, the southeast, and the inland parts of the southern provinces. However, northern and western areas are expected to see a drop in temperatures, with a return to normal seasonal levels, he told SNRT News. Youaabed attributed the ongoing heat to the continued effect of a thermal low-pressure system in the south and southeast of the country. This system is pushing temperatures higher in those regions. Meanwhile, coastal areas remain under the influence of a high-pressure system that brings cooler sea breezes, helping to ease the heat. In the coming days, the highest temperatures are expected to range between 36 and 42 degrees Celsius in the far southeast and parts of the eastern and southern desert provinces. Temperatures are expected to range between 29 and 35 degrees in the plains west of the Atlas Mountains, the southeastern slopes, and the eastern region. Coastal areas and other parts of the country will see milder temperatures, ranging from 23 to 29 degrees. Mountain areas, especially the Middle and High Atlas, along with the high eastern plateaus, are expected to see unstable weather with local rain showers. In addition, low and thick clouds are likely to form at night and in the morning, especially over the northern and central plains, the Mediterranean coast, and the northwest of the southern provinces. The hot conditions will also be accompanied by strong local winds, especially in the eastern regions, central coast, and desert provinces. These winds may cause dust storms in some areas. Starting Thursday, the hot to very hot weather is expected to continue across the inland plains, eastern areas, southeast, inland Souss region, and the southern provinces, with temperatures rising gradually until the weekend.
