We Just Got Our First Look at Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet in Netflix's "Pride and Prejudice" Series
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Jane Austen fans must be in want of a new Jane Austen adaptation. Luckily for us Austen devotees, Netflix has come to the rescue. Production on Pride & Prejudice, a new six-part limited series helmed by beloved UK author Dolly Alderton, is officially in production.
Published in 1813, Pride and Prejudice is arguably Austen's most famous novel. The story has previously been adapted into multiple formats, notably with the BBC's 1995 miniseries that starred Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth and Joe Wright's 2005 film that starred Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. Pride and Prejudice will be Netflix's second stab at an Austen adaptation, following their divisive take on Persuasion back in 2022.
The news comes amid Netflix's recent success with another Regency-era romance series: Bridgerton. Adapted from Julia Quinn's romance novel series, the show follows the courtships and eventual marriages of siblings from the noble Bridgerton family. It is currently in production for its fourth season.

It's official: Emma Corrin (The Crown, Nosferatu) and Jack Lowden (Mary Queen of Scots, Dunkirk) will officially take on the roles of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy in the six-part limited Netflix series. Corrin will have an onscreen reunion with her former costar on The Crown, Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Lost Daughter), who will play family matriarch Mrs. Bennet.
'Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,' Corrin, who is also executive producing, said in a statement provided to Deadline. 'To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly's phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honour. I can't wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.'
Iconic Pride and Prejudice adaptations in the past have featured Jennifer Ehle and Keira Knightley as protagonist Elizabeth Bennett, the witty and second-eldest sister of the Bennett family. Meanwhile, Colin Firth and Matthew Macfadyen have previously portrayed Elizabeth's love interest, the haughty and incredibly wealthy Fitzwilliam Darcy.
Other cast additions include Rufus Sewell as Mr. Bennet, Freya Mavor as Jane Bennet, Daryl McCormack as Mr. Bingley, Louis Partridge as Mr. Wickham, Jamie Demetriou as Mr. Collins, Rhea Norwood as Lydia Bennet, Siena Kelly as Caroline Bingley, and Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourg. Newcomers Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery will make their onscreen debuts as Mary Bennet and Kitty Bennet.

On July 29, Netflix dropped the first still from the adaptation, which showed the five Bennet sisters walking in a field with their mother, Mrs. Bennet.
Dolly Alderton is writing the scripts.
Deadline reports that Dolly Alderton, a novelist and screenwriter, has been tasked with bringing Austen's manuscript to life.
'Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story, and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,' Alderton said in a statement, per Deadline. 'Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy—it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr. Darcy.'
Alderton has previously adapted her debut book—a 2018 memoir titled Everything I Know About Love—into a BBC rom-com series. Most recently, she released her debut novel, Good Material, in 2023.
If you're worried that Netflix might Bridgerton-ify Pride and Prejudice, lay your fears to rest. Netflix promises that the show 'will be a faithful, classic adaptation of the novel.'

Dave Benett The Lindsay Lohan 'Lohannassaince' is in full swing as the beloved actor once again returns to the big screen. While she's busy promoting Freakier Friday — the sequel to Freaky Friday — Lohan opened up about why she didn't act for many years, stepping out of the spotlight. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Lohan spoke about her decision not to act for nine years between 2013 and 2022, after being a staple in tween and young adult movies in the late 90s and early 2000s. 'I wanted to take a minute,' Lohan told the Times. 'I was losing that feeling of excitement about doing a film, and I wanted to live my own life for a bit, figure out how to have a more private life, a real life. I wanted to wait to get that itch again.' Lohan surprised fans in 2022 when she returned to acting for Netflix's Falling for Christmas — a rom-com that's akin to those made popular on Lifetime and Hallmark. Lohan looked happier than she had in the later years she was in the spotlight, shrouded with controversy and legal troubles. This dubbed her new era as the 'Lohannassaince,' and with her return for Freakier Friday, fans want to see more of her. But the issues she experienced with paparazzi and harsh criticism — much like other superstars of the time, including Britney Spears — Lohan says she still has 'PTSD to the extreme' from those days. 'I don't ever want my family to experience being chased by the paparazzi the way I was. They were terrifying moments I had in my life," she continued. 'The most invasive situations. Really scary. And I pray stuff like that never comes back. It's not safe. It's not fair.' In Freakier Friday, the 39-year-old Lohan is playing a mother for the first time in her career to actor Sophia Hammons' character Lily, who plays her stepdaughter. Much like the original story, there is a body-swap conflict between the two. While Lohan has become known for this genre of film (Parent Trap, Mean Girls, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen), she also says she felt pigeonholed for much of her career. She references the 2006 film A Prairie Home Companion, which she acted in alongside Meryl Streep, saying that 'even today I have to fight for stuff that is like that, which is frustrating.' 'Because, well, you know me as this — but you also know I can do that. So let me! Give me the chance,' Lohan continued. "I have to break that cycle and open doors to something else, leaving people no choice. And in due time, if Martin Scorsese reaches out, I'm not going to say no.' Now that Lindsay Lohan is back in the spotlight, the Times interviewer asked her what advice she would give to her teenage self. 'I would say, 'Slow down.' Everybody back then was, 'Go! Go! 7 new horror movies on Prime Video, Shudder, HBO Max, and more in August 2025

Me neither, but I'm happy to report it's a great month for horror movies across the best streaming services. Whether you're after nineties classics or critically-acclaimed new releases, I've found seven of the best horror movies you can stream throughout the month. Oh, and there are clowns, lots of clowns. If you're planning a theater trip instead, don't forget to check out our new movies roundup for the biggest and best titles coming this year. Anaconda When: August 1Where: Netflix (US); Rent or buy (UK, AU) If you're scared of snakes, you might want to sit this one out. Or if you're feeling brave, it's now streaming on Netflix. The iconic 1997 movie focuses on a documentary film crew in the Amazon rainforest that is led by a snake hunter. The hunter is looking for a giant, legendary green anaconda, and of course, nothing could possibly go wrong here. With the right mix of action and horror, US audiences are in for a treat. Sadly, it's not streaming in other territories right now. Final Destination Bloodlines When: August 1Where: HBO Max (US); Rent or buy (UK, AU) HBO Max remains an excellent place to find all the latest horror movies. Their newest addition is Final Destination Bloodlines, a sequel that has left fans seriously impressed. Over the years, the franchise has seen mixed Rotten Tomatoes scores, and everyone has their own thoughts on which movie is the best. Currently, Bloodlines is the highest of the bunch with an impressive 93% on the Tomatometer. Following on from the other plots, this one centers on a college student who is plagued by a violent and recurring nightmare. So she tries to stop the cycle of death and save her loved ones. Final Destination fans know this setup well, and you're in for a grisly treat. Happy Death Day When: August 1Where: Peacock (US); Netflix (UK); Stan (AU) Time loop movies have been done to death (excuse the pun) after Groundhog Day, but Happy Death Day is a solid take on reliving the same day over and over. Here, we follow a college student who is murdered on the night of her birthday, but begins to relive the day again and again. In an attempt to break the loop and get her life back, she uses these resets to try and track down the killer. The sequel, Happy Death Day 2U, is just as good, but unfortunately, it's not available to stream. Killer Klowns From Outer Space When: August 1Where: Prime Video (US, UK); Paramount+ (AU) The first of many clown movies this month is Killer Klowns from Outer Space, which is exactly what it says on the tin, really. This well-known sci-fi comedy horror is well worth your time, mashing up plenty of genres with highly entertaining results. These aren't just any clowns, as the title suggests, we're dealing with extraterrestrials that look like clowns who descend on Earth. They invade a small town and begin kidnapping the locals, so they can harvest them for food. This 80s horror was a huge box office success, and it's well worth watching at home, too. Gags the Clown When: August 7Where: Shudder (US); Prime Video (US, UK) The second in our clown-filled horror recommendations this month is Gags the Clown. If clowns weren't already horrifying enough, this one is found footage, which adds that extra layer of feeling uncomfortable. Cool. In this movie, a clown roams the city streets at night, terrorizing the population. This prompts a local news reporter to try and find out his identity and put a stop to the madness. Unfortunately, Gags has inspired a group of schoolkids to create trouble too, and there's chaos around every corner. This is perfect if you want a gritty, realistic horror. The Monkey When: August 7Where: Hulu (US); Rent or buy (UK, AU) The Monkey is Osgood Perkins' latest horror outing after his terrifying Nic Cage-led Longlegs, but this one has very different vibes. Taking a darker comedy approach, The Monkey is based on a Stephen King short story and follows twin brothers whose lives are turned upside down by a cursed toy monkey that causes horrific deaths around them. There's a great cast here with Theo James playing the brothers, and Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Adam Scott, and Perkins himself round out the cast. Clown in a Cornfield When: August 8Where: Shudder (worldwide) Finally, check out this other literally named clown movie. Clown in a Cornfield follows, er, a clown in a cornfield who emerges to target locals and "cleanse the town of its burdens". Unfortunately for protagonist Quinn and her father, they've just moved to this quiet town where they end up going head to head with this serial killer clown, who is on a rampage after the town has fallen on hard times. Slasher movie fans should have a fun time with this one when it lands on August 8. 'Happy Gilmore 2' cast celebrates rapper Eminem's comic chops

Photo courtesy of Netflix NEW YORK, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Adam Sandler and the actors who play his sons in Happy Gilmore 2 are praising rapper Eminem for his surprise comic appearance in the long-awaited movie sequel. "Eminem is funny as hell," Sandler captioned a video of outtakes featuring the hip-hop star that he shared on social media Friday. In the sequel's final golf game, Eminem plays a bucket-hatted heckler, the son of a similar-looking trouble-maker played by the late comedian Joe Flaherty in the 1996 original. Happy (Sandler) ultimately wins, earning the $300,000 he needs to send his only daughter Vienna (Sunny Sandler) to a prestigious Parisian dance school. The actors who played Gilmore's rambunctious adult sons said getting to beat up Eminem and throw him into an alligator-infested pond was a highlight of the movie, which is now streaming on Netflix. "That was a nuts day," pro wrestler Maxwell Jacob Friedman, who plays Happy's eldest son Gordy, told UPI in a recent Zoom interview. "When I work out, Eminem is my go-to [music] over and over and over again. He has created some of the best pump-up music in the history of music ever, point blank," Friedman said. "So, I'm just standing there and I'm like: 'Wait, I'm beating up Eminem with my closest friends on this random day? OK, sign me up!'" Friedman said the hip-hop icon didn't just film is scene and make a quick exit. "Not only was he a good sport, he stayed way later and he was like, 'Let me try to do a different take and say something different there,' and he improvised so many different lines while he was in the water with the gators," Friedman added. "He's something else." Philip Fine Schneider, who plays Gordy's brother Bobby, chimed in: "He was, literally in the water, which is crazy. I didn't even think he was going to be in the water. I was like, 'Oh, it will be a body double or whatever.' But he was in there and wanted to be in there and wanted to stay. It was great." Friedman said the professional behavior of Eminem and the rest of the big stars who had cameos in the film was a great example for the younger members of the cast. "The big takeaway was the fact that, no matter who the person was that came on to set -- big or small -- everybody put in 110 percent and was just so amped to be a part of the project, so it was really inspiring stuff," Friedman added. Conor Sherry, who plays Terry, said he and the actors who played his siblings were all honored to help carry on the Happy Gilmore legacy. "it was everything," Sherry said. "We had high expectations, obviously. Adam's reputation is so great and he exceeded it in every way. To be able to do something and learn so much is such a joyous [experience,]" he added. "It was a full-fledged master class, more than you could ever learn in any classroom or college. I'm pro-college, but Adam Sandler taught us a lot." "To have such a chill environment and to be able to also learn so much at the same time and have it not feel forced was just really cool," Friedman said. The brothers' constantly fight and talk over each other, but they also are protective of and affectionate with their widower dad and little sister. "They're, basically, just the exact same copies in a certain way. I feel like we all have the same IQ," Ethan Cutkosky, who plays Wayne, said with a laugh. "When we're together, we can collectively solve some math equations." Schneider added, "We're bonded by love. We beat the [expletive] out of each other, but we love each other." "When Happy's down, it's on us to lift our father up," Schneider said. "There are a lot of moments I think will hit home with people, who have parents or parental figures who are struggling," Friedman said. "You get to watch the kids go through the same exact roller coaster that Happy is going through. When he's up, we're up," he added. "When he's down, we're down, but we're rooting for him the entire way through and I think it's such a beautiful thing as far as unconditional love goes."
