Narcotics investigation in Meriden turns up multiple types of drugs, stolen gun and about $60K
Kemar Smith, 27, was arrested last Wednesday on charges of operating a drug factory, possession of a controlled substance, risk of injury to a child, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of narcotics with intent to sell, according to the Meriden Police Department.
Police said the Crime Suppression Unit in April and May conducted an investigation into alleged narcotics trafficking in the city that led to Smith being identified as a suspect. Investigators obtained a search warrant for his residence and vehicle.
The search allegedly turned up about 997 grams of cocaine, 51 grams of crack cocaine and three grams of fentanyl, police said. Investigators also reported finding a stolen HK 9mm firearm and $64,208 in suspected drug proceeds.
Smith was initially held on a $1 million bond and arraigned in New Haven Superior Court. His bail was reduced during the hearing to $750,000, which he has since posted, according to court records.
Smith has not entered a plea to the charges, records show. He is due back in court June 18.

A 16-year-old girl and two boys, aged 14 and 15, have appeared in court charged with the murder of a man in a seaside resort. 'About an hour and five mins later, he was pronounced dead – during that period, he was the subject of a violent assault.' The attack is alleged to involve a glass bottle and rocks being thrown, the court heard. The 16-year-old and 14-year-old both cried during the hearing while the 15-year-old looked at the floor, rocking slightly. A 12-year-old girl, arrested on Tuesday in Basildon, Essex, is still in custody. The girl and two boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been remanded into youth detention accommodation to appear on Thursday at Maidstone Crown Court.

Police urge public to call 999 immediately if they see man accused of harassment
Police have issued an urgent appeal to the public, asking them to call them if they see a wanted man. Officers are trying to trace 28-year-old Nathan Preece, who has breached his licence conditions and is wanted for failing to attend court over an offence of harassment. Police say he may recently have been in the Chilwell area and has links to the Mansfield and Ashfield areas. Officers say he has recently visited Birmingham and has historic links to the Walsall area. The public has been urged to call 999 immediately if he is seen. Japanese star convicted of indecent assault in Hong Kong
A Hong Kong court on Wednesday found J-pop artist Kenshin Kamimura guilty of indecent assault after he harassed a woman working as his interpreter at a restaurant earlier this year. Kamimura, 26, is a former member of the boy band ONE N'ONLY, which expelled him shortly after the allegation. Fans queued to get into court for hours before the hearing, and some broke down in tears upon learning Kamimura had been convicted.
