Amit Shah's diktat to TN BJP: Bond with AIADMK

Time of India21 hours ago
Chennai: Amid conflicting views in the NDA in Tamil Nadu over a coalition govt, the
BJP
rank and file is actively participating in
AIADMK
rallies at the behest of Union minister
Amit Shah
to smoothen out ruffles between parties, and with hopes of power-sharing post-election.
Shah, who was recently in Madurai, told BJP functionaries to collaborate with AIADMK, participate in demonstrations and rallies as a show of unity. This directive has been communicated to the district units. BJP sources said this is aimed at strengthening NDA in TN, with AIADMK at the helm. "Shah told senior leaders that AIADMK will lead NDA in the state, and the BJP should gel with it… Now our cadres are seen at
Edappadi Palaniswami
's campaign wherever it is held in the state," a senior BJP leader said.
This contrasts with the 2021 election, where many AIADMK functionaries told their ally to stay off their public outreach programmes, especially in minority-dominated areas.
On Palaniswami's assertion that AIADMK will form govt on its own, a contradiction to Amit Shah's share-in-power plank, BJP leaders suggest such statements were intended to build confidence among respective cadres.

AIADMK Rajya Sabha members may also get a berth in Union cabinet."
The presence of BJP leaders such as L Murugan, Nainar Nagenthran, and Vanathi Srinivasan at EPS's rally in Mettupalayam, signals the party's endorsement of his leadership of the alliance in TN. It remains to be seen if former state president K Annamalai will participate in Palaniswami's meetings. There was unease recently due to Annamalai's absence at a Nagenthran-organised meet for booth-level workers where Vanathi Srinivasan, Tamilisai Soundararajan, H Raja, and P Sudhakar Reddy spoke.
Annamalai was originally scheduled to speak on youth votes.

CPM protests in Goalpara against eviction drives

Guwahati: CPM staged a mega demonstration in Goalpara on Tuesday, accusing state govt of working in the interests of corporates and against the citizens of the country. This comes just days after eviction drives in lower Dhubri and Goalpara districts. Thousands of people, mostly those evicted, joined the demonstration in protest against govt's "inhuman" act of evicting people at Chapar in Dhubri and Paikan reserve forest in Goalpara. CPM MLA from Sarbhog, Manoranjan Talukdar, said the demand is very clear — govt must provide sufficient compensation and rehabilitation, not in the riverine areas, to the evicted families at the earliest. He urged the CM to call a sitting in the assembly for discussion on the matter if the CM cannot agree to the demands of CPM. "We will not sit on the road demonstrating against eviction if the CM can prove a majority supporting eviction," he added. Talukdar appealed to other opposition parties to raise their voices against the eviction. "We will put all efforts to defeat the BJP in the 2026 assembly elections," he added. The MLA said their (present BJP-led govt) main target is a particular community. "This govt is communal, and there is no doubt," he added. He said CM Sarma-led govt will be bound to provide rehabilitation to the evicted people, and this is established by the mega eviction drive at Gorukhuti in Darrang. "Bowing down to the continuous protests and legal battle following the eviction drive at Gorukhuti in Darrang in September 2021, the govt rehabilitated the families," he added. He accused the govt of working for the interests of the big corporate players. "Corporate players could have purchased land. Why is eviction required?," he added. He accused the CM of creating an atmosphere of fear by carrying out eviction drives across lower Assam. "Stop this inhuman act," he added. Meanwhile, the party's state general secretary, Suprakash Talukdar, said that the demonstration in Goalpara is justified. "If the govt has a plan to rehabilitate the evicted families, as they keep on claiming, rehabilitation should have been done first. They are now staying on the roads," he added.

People distressed under BJP rule: Rajasthan cong chief

'The Congress organisation will make every effort to help people and reduce their hardships,' he said. Speaking to reporters at the party's state headquarters here, Dotasra said, 'The BJP government in Rajasthan is not doing any work in public interest. The people are distressed by misrule.' He said Congress leaders and workers would stay connected with people at the grassroots level and serve as a bridge to convey their issues to the government. Jaipur, Jul 15 (PTI) Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) president Govind Singh Dotasra on Tuesday alleged that the people of the state are suffering due to the misrule of the BJP government. Accusing the BJP government of evading accountability, Dotasra alleged that several welfare schemes launched by the previous Congress-led government in the state have either been stalled or sidelined. 'No one in the current government is willing to provide answers,' he said. Dotasra also informed that the process of forming Congress committees at booth, mandal, block, and city levels in the state is nearing completion. 'Now, party workers will take the failures and anti-people policies of the BJP governments—both at the Centre and in the state—to the public through the organisation,' he said.
