The hunt is focusing on the resort of Tossa de Mar north of Barcelona, which is where the missing man's phone was last located.
A van believed to be his has been found at a scenic viewpoint close to steep cliffs near Tossa de Mar.
Regional Mossos d'Esquadra police launched their operation yesterday after the man's family reported him missing in the UK.
The force then received an alert from Interpol.
The van, thought to have been abandoned some days ago, was found a few hours into the search which.
Local media reported overnight the 24-year-old had disappeared in the UK three weeks ago on April 30.
The search is expected to resume at first daylight tomorrow.
No-one from the police force leading the search could be reached for comment late last night.
A British tourist went missing at Alicante airport at the end of March after a stag do in Benidorm before being found.
Jason Taylor, 36, vanished as he waited for a flight back to Birmingham, sparking a police manhunt which had a happy ending nearly four days later on April 1 when he was spotted walking along a nearby beach.
Police sources said after he was found that the fact he didn't have his mobile phone on him had caused him extra complications.
Tossa de Mar is about 60 miles north of Barcelona and the same distance south of the French border.

Four bodies found floating in famous river as police admit 'there's a lot of questions'

Authorities determined that three of the men were of African descent with the fourth being of North African descent - their bodies have been taken away and will undergo an autopsy Four bodies were found floating in a famous river with police admitting "there's a lot of questions." ‌ A witness alerted authorities after spotting a body floating in the Seine near Choisy-le-Roi, a Paris suburb, on Wednesday, August 13 local news outlets reported. It was later found there were four bodies in the stretch of river. ‌ A police source told French media a body was found submerged before a second body was spotted floating at the edge of the quay. Another two bodies, one stuck in branches and a fourth drifting in the currents, were located. ‌ All bodies that were recovered were found to be men. Three were found fully clothed while another was partially clothed. Three of the men were of African descent and a fourth was of North African descent and are believed to have been in the river for numerous days. Their bodies were later taken in order for autopsies to be carried out. A police source told BFMTV: "We're not used to this kind of incident. It's an act that raises a lot of questions. Was it criminal? Were these people drunk and didn't survive the heatwave? Did they go swimming or drown?" Should no link be established, it would be due to the flow of the river that could explain why they all appeared at the same location. The mayor's chief of staff Bertrand Guillerm said the bodies could have drifted under during a high flow. Choisy police have been tasked with solving the case. It comes after bodies were recovered from the sea at popular beaches in England. A man in his 30s died after he was pulled from a beach in Skegness just days after a woman died at the same resort. Emergency services raced to the beach in Skegness, Lincolnshire, at about 6pm on Tuesday after the HM Coastguard said he had been rescued from the sea. Lincolnshire Police later said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

TV star hits out at BBC over 'disgraceful' Strictly Come Dancing snub

Narinder Kaur, a broadcaster, author and social commentator, claimed the BBC was demonstrating "unconscious bias and prejudicial views against British brown women". In a video captioned "BBC can literally kiss my ass", Kaur (below) criticised the broadcaster's decision to platform Thomas Skinner, a former Apprentice contestant turned controversial social media personality. (Image: Lucy North / PA) In her video, Kaur said: "I am so raging right now with the BBC, I'm so over the BBC. "Like you've just apologised to Robert Jenrick, and you've just taken on Thomas Skinner for Strictly Come Dancing." Kaur was referring to an apology which was issued by the BBC to the shadow justice secretary after a contributor on its Radio 4 Today programme accused him of "xenophobia". She continued: "Now I'll tell you my problem here, and you're gonna say, 'oh, she's so bitter, oh she's so–'. You can say that, do that all day long, I'm okay with that. We approached them, and I was told by a producer I was a little bit too controversial, you know, 'we don't need that for the show'. I accept that. "And they put on brown women every single time, brown or black women who are quiet, who don't have opinions, because that's the kind of brown women they accept – that's what their audience likes. "But God forbid you're a brown woman who has some opinions, then they'll never take you on. "But if you're a white man - Thomas Skinner, proud patriot, of the online right, who's got a criminal past charged with theft – you're alright." In 2011, Skinner was sentenced in court for handling 4992 tubes of Body Shop cleansing gels amounting to almost £40,000, as well as possessing 2000 diazepam tablets. Kaur shared the video on social media, writing: "Apparently I was deemed too controversial for @bbcstrictly because they only hire quiet brown and black women that fit in a box. "But you can be a white man AND be controversial and you'll be hired on the spot! Hello Thomas Skinner!! "#BBCStrictly your unconscious bias and prejudicial views against British brown women is disgraceful." More than 100 migrants in one vessel thought to have bumped crossings to 27,799

Authorities intercepted a 10 metre-long craft with 106 people on board, trying to cross the English Channel. A Government spokesperson said it was 'pure chance' that the 'grossly overcrowded' soft-bottomed taxi boat survived for more than 15 hours at sea. Home Office figures show 325 migrants crossed between mainland Europe and Britain by small boat on Wednesday, in the same week that the number of arrivals since Labour won the election hit 50,000. 'We intercepted a 10m soft-bottomed vessel transporting 106 people across the Channel illegally,' the spokesperson said. 'It is a matter of pure chance that this grossly overcrowded taxi boat survived more than 15 hours at sea, and it again shows the complete disregard people smugglers have for whether people live or die. 'We will stop at nothing to dismantle the business models of those smuggling gangs and bring them to justice.' According to the Government, migrants have attempted the journey on similar sized vessels, including during three crossings since last October where between 96 and 98 people were detected on board. But a small boat carrying 112 migrants capsized in the sea in April 2024, resulting in the deaths of five people, including a seven-year-old girl. 'This latest incident also shows the importance of the agreement we have reached with the French authorities to review their maritime enforcement tactics, so that they are able for the first time to intercept boats in shallow waters and prevent taxi boats from parking offshore to collect large numbers of migrants unhindered,' the spokesperson added. (PA Graphics) Authorities have begun detaining migrants under the UK's 'one in, one out' deal with France this month. As part of the agreement, migrants who risk a small boat crossing face being taken to France, and the UK will take in an approved asylum seeker from the continent via a safe route. The Home Office spokesperson said: 'Through international intelligence sharing under our Border Security Command, enhanced enforcement operations in northern France, and tougher legislation in the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill, we are strengthening our ability to identify, disrupt and dismantle the gangs.' A total of 51,041 migrants have been detected crossing the Channel since Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer entered No 10 on July 5 last year.
