Padu data to be used for RON95 targeted subsidy
The use of centralised data would enhance accuracy in identifying truly eligible recipients, he added.
Amir Hamzah, who is also the Economy Minister, said this would ensure that government subsidies are distributed more fairly and effectively.
"The implementation of targeted subsidies, with PADU being used by the Ministry of Finance, will serve as the reference for RON95 subsidy recipients.
'I believe this is the beginning, the first truly detailed approach that will be used," he said during Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Aug 4).
Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) had asked the government to provide updates on Padu and efforts to ensure transparency.
Amir Hamzah said nine government agencies have been approved to access Padu data for their specific needs and policy coordination.

"The government strongly encourages the use of Padu data among government agencies as part of efforts to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery," he said, adding that Padu currently contains over 30.4 million individual profiles.
He also said that following data integration from more than 200 government agencies, the system now has information on demographic, socioeconomic, educational, income and assistance status.
'The system is also utilising the expertise of our civil servants, and the practices are in line with the existing Acts, orders and circulars to ensure data safety,' he added.
Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Malaysians would soon enjoy RON95 petrol at a reduced price of RM1.99 per litre under a targeted subsidy scheme, with further details to be announced by the end of September.

MyKad or full price: Targeted RON95 subsidy plans to be unveiled by end-Sept, says MoF
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — The Ministry of Finance (MoF) said the detailed implementation plans for targeted subsidies for RON95 petrol will be announced by end-September 2025, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's statement on July 23, 2025. In a written parliamentary reply, MoF said the government is actively developing and testing the subsidy targeting mechanism to ensure smooth execution upon rollout. 'This includes refining data from agencies such as the National Registration Department, Road Transport Department (JPJ), and the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM),' it said. 'The government aims to adopt a more comprehensive approach to ensure RON95 subsidies reach the intended target groups.' MoF was responding to a question from Hulu Langat Member of Parliament, Pakatan Harapan's Mohd Sany Hamzan, who asked for an update on the subsidy retargeting implementation, particularly the front-end and back-end phases announced by the Ministry of Economy. According to MoF, once implemented, the retargeted subsidy mechanism will allow eligible Malaysians to enjoy RON95 at RM1.99 per litre through MyKad verification. Peace talks, debt issues top Dewan Rakyat Agenda today
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's role in facilitating peace talks and a ceasefire in the Thailand-Cambodia conflict is among the focus of Dewan Rakyat sitting today. Based on the Order Paper on the Parliament portal, the matter was raised by Rodiyah Sapiee (GPS-Batang Sadong) to the Prime Minister during Minister's Question Time. In the same session, Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (PN-Kuala Kangsar) also sought clarification from the Prime Minister on whether the MADANI Government was managing the national debt responsibly. Meanwhile, in the question and answer session, Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis (Warisan-Kota Belud) asked the Foreign Minister about the proposed Joint Development with Indonesia in the ND 6 and ND 7 Ambalat blocks.
