New Zealand's Dixon wins seventh IndyCar Mid-Ohio title
New Zealand's Scott Dixon overtook Spanish teammate Alex Palou for the lead with six laps remaining and won Sunday's Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio, his record seventh career victory at the track.
Dixon, who turns 45 on July 22, captured a race for his 21st consecutive IndyCar season by edging his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate over 90 laps on a 13-turn, 2.258-mile permanent road course in Lexington, Ohio.

Dixon saved fuel throughout the race, a trademark move, and made only two pit stops to secure his 59th career IndyCar triumph.
"It was definitely a tough race," Dixon said. "Just so much fun to try and pull off what we did and do with what we had. It was fantastic."
Dixon, who trails only the record 67 all-time wins by A.J. Foyt in IndyCar history, was trailing season points leader Palou before the Spaniard blundered on the ninth turn of lap 84, sliding out wide left and getting onto the grass.
While Palou slowed, Dixon roared ahead and hung on for the triumph, nursing fuel all the way to the finish line.

"I saw he went off in turn nine. We got a little bit lucky with that," Dixon said. "I knew it was going to be tough. We still had to save fuel all the way to the end so it was definitely way tight."
Dixon was battling handling issues as well.
"I just had to look at the corner and the car was going to turn," Dixon said. "I was just hoping the rear tires were going to hold on."
Palou, the 2023 Mid-Ohio winner who started on the pole and led most of the race, settled for second with Denmark's Christian Lundgaard third.
"Just a stupid mistake, a mistake by my part," Palou said. "The car was amazing all weekend, all race. Everybody did an amazing job on pit stops and strategy. We were running really good. Just lost it a little bit on entry and then really couldn't get power going on.

"Nobody to blame but me. Just got a bit wide on entry and lost it completely. It sucks. It hurts a lot. It's still a good day but it hurts to lose it like that."
There was some consolation for the Indianapolis 500 winner. After 10 of 17 races, Palou -- chasing his fourth season crown in five seasons -- has 430 points to lead American Kyle Kirkwood by 113 with Mexico's Pato O'Ward third, 125 down, and Dixon fourth, 148 adrift.
Palou has six wins this season and Kirkwood three.
Dixon's prior Mid-Ohio titles came in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2019.
Palou grabbed the lead at the start with Lundgaard quickly settling into second. They stayed at the front through the pits stops with Dixon moving to third thanks to the fuel strategy.

Palou came to the pits from the lead with 19 laps remaining for a quick fuel splash and returned to the track two seconds ahead of Dixon, setting the stage for the final drama.
The season continues with two oval races next weekend at Iowa Speedway.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Stephen Vogt has tried to look at the bright side despite everything that has gone wrong for his Cleveland Guardians over the past two weeks. 'We're all wearing it. It's frustrating, but the only way to get through frustrating situations is to stay positive and keep working,' the manager said before Sunday's game against Detroit. Vogt's power of positivity is going to be tested over the next week. Sunday's 7-2 loss to the Tigers in 10 innings extended the Guardians' losing streak to 10 games, the first time since 2012 they've had a double-digit skid. It is the 11th time in franchise history they have lost 10 straight in a single season. The team record is 12, set in 1931. 'This game felt like a kick in the pants. It really did. Gut-wrenching. Heart-wrenching,' Vogt said. Cleveland is an AL-worst 9-22 since June 1, including a 4-12 mark at home. The Guardians have dropped eight of their last 10 three-game series and have been swept four times. At 40-48, the Guardians are assured of going into the All-Star break under .500 for the first time since 2015. Cleveland is 6 1/2 games out of a wild-card spot after it won the AL Central and reached the AL Championship Series last season. Repeating as division champions is out of reach with a 15 1/2-game deficit to the Tigers after being swept over the weekend. To say the Guardians are struggling at the plate would be kind. They are batting .166 during the skid, their worst 10-game stretch since posting a .163 average in 2020. Clutch hitting has been even worse. The Guardians are 5 of 52 during the losing streak with runners in scoring position, including 2 for 31 with two out. 'I feel like we're getting our runners on just waiting for that one big hit. The pitchers are doing what they have to do. We had some good defense last couple days,' said Steven Kwan, who earned his second straight AL All-Star selection on Sunday. Cleveland went 9-15 in June and had a .206 batting average, which is tied for the third-worst batting month in franchise history with at least 13 games played. The Guardians are winless in six July games, including two shutouts. 'We haven't been great at situational hitting. We have to continue to work on that. It's frustrating,' Vogt said. Kwan and third baseman José Ramírez are the only everyday players batting above .240. Even Ramírez, the AL's starting All-Star third baseman, has cooled off, going 3 for 31 in the last 10 games. His batting average during the skid has dropped 21 points to .297. Pitching for the most part has been solid, but has faltered at key times. On Sunday, closer Emmanuel Clase threw a wild pitch on a 99.9 mph cutter on a 1-2 count with two outs in the ninth inning, allowing pinch-runner Zach McKinstry to score the tying run. Trey Sweeney's three-run homer in the 10th inning marked the first time that someone had gone deep on Cade Smith in 81 appearances and 78 2/3 innings. 'We're all wearing it. After facing Detroit ace Tarik Skubal on Sunday, the Guardians face Houston's Hunter Brown on Monday. Brown leads the AL with a 1.82 ERA and his 126 strikeouts are seventh. Luis Ortiz is the subject of a Major League Baseball gambling investigation involving prop bets on pitches he made and was placed on leave on July 3. Vogt has tried to remain calm while while stressing that a lot of the season remains to be played. But with the trade deadline less than a month away, time may be running out. 'It doesn't do any good to loathe or talk about negatives and moan and complain,' Vogt said. 'That's not productive. We've got to keep working to get better. We're all in this together. Ohio State superstar receiver Jeremiah Smith is going to be ranked as an overall 99 ranked player in EA Sports' popular "College Football 26" franchise, the game's first 99 ranked player since EA Sports brought the college football game back last season. Smith is highly regarded as the best player in college football this coming season by many after introducing himself to the world as a superstar freshman last year. He hauled in 76 passes for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns, helping OSU to a run towards the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. The rating was revealed in the Dynasty & Team Builder Deep Dive. Ohio State football players well-represented at top end of 'College Football 26' ratings
We continue to count down to the release of EA Sports' "College Football 26," the second-year reboot of the popular college football video game franchise. Those who purchase the Deluxe Edition will have early access on July 7, with everyone being able to gain access on July 10. Leading up to that, EA Sports has been releasing some information about the game that's sure to become a staple of many college football fans. One of those things the game-maker is sending out on social media is some of the ratings of the teams and players. We already know that Jeremiah Smith is the highest-rated player in the game, and that Ohio State is ranked as the third-best team you can play with, but on Tuesday, EA Sports released some of the top-end rankings of other players. Advertisement Included were the top ten ranked offensive players, and yeah, Smith was on top of that list. However, instead of the original screenshot of him being an overall 99, it now appears as though the superstar wideout is an overall "98." There aren't any other OSU players among the top ten on the offensive side, and only one other Big Ten player, Penn State Nicholas Singleton, who barely made the cut as the No. 10 rated offensive player with an overall 93. Alabama receiver -- who just so happens to be with Smith on the cover of the game -- is the second best player with an overall rating of 96. But wait. Not only does Ohio State have the highest-rated offensive player, it also has the best defensive player in the game, with safety Caleb Downs ranking No. 1 with an overall rating of 96. Like the offensive side, Downs is the only OSU defensive player in the top ten and just one of two Big Ten players with Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman coming in at No. 10 with an overall rating of 93. In addition to sharing the top ten on both sides of the ball, EA Sports also released the top five by position, and one other Buckeye made those lists with transfer tight end Max Klare checking in as the No. 3 tight end in the game with an overall rating of 91. That should be an interesting look at what the game believes about OSU's roster for the 2025 season. For now, though, somewhat unsurprisingly, the Buckeyes are well-represented at the top of what the game has to offer.
