The Porsche 911 Spirit 70 is a tribute to the 1970s era.
Porsche unveiled the 911 Spirit 70, a special-edition convertible that draws heavily from the design language of the 1970s and early 1980s at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. Limited to 1,500 units, the Porsche 911 Spirit 70 is part of the carmaker's ongoing Heritage Design strategy which revisits key eras in the brand's history through limited production vehicles.
Porsche 911 Spirit 70: Powertrain
The 911 Spirit 70 is based on the current 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet but features a new performance hybrid setup. The car is powered by a 3.6-litre boxer engine, integrated with an eTurbo, electric motor in the PDK transmission, and a high-voltage system. Combined, the drivetrain produces 534 bhp and 610 Nm of torque.

One of the key visual features of the Spirit 70 is its Olive Neo paintwork—a custom dark green created for this model. Accents in Bronzite, a grey-gold tone, are applied to the front and rear sections and the 'Fuchs'-inspired Sport Classic wheels. The black soft top and matching windscreen frame add visual contrast.
At the back of the car, there's Porsche and 911 Spirit 70 badging in a gold metallic finish.
Three black silk-gloss stripes run along the bonnet and roof—details inspired by 1970s safety stickers once used to make sports cars more visible at high speeds. The side graphics include Porsche lettering and a black roundel for an optional individual number, referencing Porsche's racing heritage.
The Porsche crest on the bonnet is nearly identical to the version from 1963. Additional period-inspired features include gold-coloured badges, 'Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur" branding and a Heritage badge on the rear grille, which nods to the one seen on the Porsche 356.

Inside, the car continues the retro theme with the Pasha fabric pattern in black and Olive Neo. This graphic checkerboard motif was used by Porsche in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In the Spirit 70, the pattern is applied to the seat centres, door inserts, glove compartment and reversible boot mat. An optional interior pack extends the pattern to the dashboard trim and seat backs.
The cabin is trimmed in basalt black club leather with matching stitching in Olive Neo. The instrumentation reflects the vintage theme as well: the 12.65-inch display uses white pointers, green digits and a retro-style rev counter layout, referencing early Porsche dashboards. The Sport Chrono stopwatch also follows this colour scheme.

Volkswagen 's largest shareholder, holding firm Porsche SE , said on Wednesday that it planned to deepen its involvement in the defence sector, while reaffirming its core focus on cars and industrial technology. The move aligns with a broader trend among German auto and car parts makers. Companies like Volkswagen, Daimler Truck and Schaeffler have been exploring the defence industry as a potential growth avenue as Europe ramps up military spending . The holding vehicle of the Porsche and Piech families, which owns 32 per cent in Volkswagen and 12.5 per cent in luxury carmaker Porsche AG , said it intended to launch an investment platform in cooperation with other investors and partners, targeting emerging companies in the defence space. As part of this initiative, it would host a "Defense Day" event to connect German and European family offices with investment opportunities in the sector, it said without giving further details. Independently of the platform, the company is intensively exploring investment opportunities in areas such as satellite surveillance, reconnaissance and sensor systems, cybersecurity and logistics, it added. "The sector is hyped at the moment and likely to experience continued strong growth in the foreseeable future," said analyst Fabio Hoelscher from Warburg Research, though he noted no capital commitments had been made so far. Porsche SE outlined the investment plans after cutting its full-year earnings forecast, weighed down by a weaker half-year performance and an outlook cut at Volkswagen, its largest portfolio company whose performance is heavily reflected in the holding firm's results. While defence investments would counterbalance its cyclical automotive exposure to some extent, the sector is unlikely to become something as large and material for Porsche SE as its stakes in Volkswagen and Porsche AG in the short to medium term, Hoelscher said. Porsche first flagged its intention to expand investments into the defence sector in March.

Porsche AG and Volkswagen AG's owners are setting up a fund to make defense-industry investments, hoping to ride a surge in European military spending. Ferdinand Porsche, the late founder of the sports-car brand, helped develop tanks for Nazi Germany.(Bloomberg) Porsche Automobil Holding SE, the holding company of the Porsche-Piëch billionaire owner family, said Wednesday it's forming a platform with partners it didn't name to invest in defense startups. The company is dropping a previous requirement that targets need to have not just military but also civilian applications. 'Our aim is to increase our involvement in the defense and defense-related sectors while maintaining our core focus on mobility and industrial technology,' Chairman Hans Dieter Pötsch said. The company also lowered its earnings guidance due to weakness in the auto industry. Tapping into new sectors may prove lucrative as Europe prepares to unlock hundreds of billions of euros in defense and infrastructure expenditures. Porsche SE announced in March it was considering a third long-term anchor investment in defense or infrastructure, separate from its holdings in VW and Porsche. Independent of the fund, Porsche SE said it's 'intensively examining' possible defense investments, with a focus on areas such as satellite surveillance, reconnaissance and sensor systems, cybersecurity or logistics and supply systems. As such, it is produced alongside the series-production cars at the Zuffenhausen plant. The Cup car now ditches the LED DRLs to minimise costs after inevitable collisions. It further a new three-piece front splitter, which makes it so that only the damaged parts need to be replaced after collisions. It won the inaugural Endurance Trophy for the LMGT3 class in the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), including a class victory at Le Mans. It remained undefeated at the French classic yet again in the 2025 season. For the 2026 season, Porsche has optimised the GT3 R's suspension and aerodynamics to allow for 'an even more balanced handling and improved drivability." The car gets new ventiducts on top of the front wheel arches, enhancing aerodynamic performance by counteracting front-end compression during deceleration. As such, this reduces the GT3 R's tendency to tilt forwards during heavy braking, the usual side-effect of rear-engined cars with a light front-end. The massive swan-neck rear wing that takes up a lot of our screen real estate is fitted with a 4mm Gurney flap to help generate additional rear-end downforce. The underbody is fully enclosed, and the modified kinematics of the multi-link rear axle reduce rear-end compression and optimise load distribution. The car further benefits from upgraded brake and power steering system cooling. The 2026 911 GT3 R continues to be powered by the 4.2-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine that makes up to 557 bhp, depending on the Balance of Performance (BoP) classification decided upon by race officials. Since the drivetrain remains largely unchanged, Porsche is planning to offer around 60 upgrade kits at a price starting at 41,500 euros ( ₹42.40 lakh).
