Kamal urged PM to 'expedite recognition of Keeladi's antiquity'
Sharing the photos, Kamal wrote, "Today, I had the honour of meeting the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi ji. As a representative of the people of Tamil Nadu and as an artist, I placed before him a few requests, foremost among them was the call to expedite the recognition of Keeladi's antiquity."
"I urged the Prime Minister to extend his support to the Tamil people in showcasing to the world the grandeur of Tamil civilisation and the timeless glory of the Tamil language," he added. The Centre and DMK-led Tamil Nadu government have been at loggerheads over the Keezhadi, also spelt Keeladi, findings.
Kamal became Rajya Sabha MP recently
Last month, Kamal took the oath in Tamil as an MP in the Upper House of Parliament, receiving a resounding applause from fellow MPs. He assumed a national legislative role for the first time. He was nominated with the support of the ruling DMK-led alliance, which had promised him a Rajya Sabha seat in return for MNM's support during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Kamal's recent film
Fans saw Kamal last in Thug Life, which hit the theatres in June this year. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film also released in Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam. The film also starred Silambarasan TR, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Nassar, Mahesh Manjrekar and Ali Fazal among others.

UP Monsoon Session begins today, set to be stormy
The Monsoon Session of the Uttar Pradesh assembly, beginning on Monday, is expected to be stormy with the Opposition parties preparing to target the ruling BJP-led government over a range of public issues. On Sunday, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav convened a meeting with his party MLAs at the state unit office to strategise for the session. Legislators were briefed on the key issues they are expected to raise in the House. Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhana Mishra 'Mona' said her party will draw the government's attention to key issues with the flood crisis being the foremost among them. 'Floods have made life miserable for people, and farmers are suffering as even their maize crops are being destroyed. I have demanded a central relief package for farmers during the all-party meeting held today,' she said. Mishra also highlighted the need for a debate on the school merger issue. 'On one hand, the government claims increased student enrolment, while on the other, it is shutting down schools. Law and order is another pressing issue, but meaningful discussion is difficult when the session is limited to just three-and- a-half days,' she added. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Legislature Party leader Umashankar Singh said the BSP will raise concerns about flooding in several districts. 'We will highlight the plight of people stranded in marooned villages, demand compensation for farmers whose crops and homes have been destroyed, and question delays in rescue and relief operations in rural areas. The BSP will also call for an extension of the Monsoon session,' he said. Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government is expected to table ordinances during the session. These were promulgated following the budget session and include: Uttar Pradesh Repeal Ordinance, 2025, Uttar Pradesh State Public Service Commission (Regulation of Procedure) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, Uttar Pradesh Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, Uttar Pradesh Private Universities (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, Uttar Pradesh Private Universities (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2025. The session will commence on August 11 and continue until August 16, according to principal secretary, UP assembly, Pradeep Dubey. No legislative business will be conducted on August 15 and 16 due to Independence Day and Krishna Janmashtami.

'The passengers boarding from Pathankot, Jalandhar and Beas would also be benefitted,' he added. Highlighting upcoming railway initiatives in Punjab, Bittu announced that several new railway projects will soon commence, including the development of new rail lines, improved connectivity, construction of road over bridges (ROBs) and road under bridges (RUBs), as well as the redevelopment of railway stations. 'Projects already in progress will be expedited and completed swiftly,' he further stated.

Union minister, J&K LG, dy CM thank PM Modi for another Vande Bharat train
Union minister Jitendra Singh, Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha and deputy chief minister Surinder Choudhary thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday for sanctioning a Vande Bharat train to link the holy towns of Katra and Amritsar, and said the transport infrastructure, particularly in the railways, has witnessed unprecedented growth in the Union territory over the last 11 years. (PTI) In Bengaluru, the PM on Sunday flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains -- from Bengaluru to Belagavi, from Punjab's Amritsar to Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra in Jammu and Kashmir and from Nagpur (Ajni) to Pune. 'This (Katra-Amritsar) is the fourth Vande Bharat Express train gifted to Jammu and Kashmir by PM Modi, who has given top priority to this region ever since taking the reins of the government in 2014.... I do not know if there is any other railway station in the country where four Vande Bharat trains stop,' Singh told reporters on board the newly-launched train. He congratulated the people of Jammu for the new train and said when Modi took over as the PM in 2014, the railway project to connect Kashmir with the rest of the country was almost abandoned. The LG thanked the PM for the Vande Bharat train between Amritsar and Katra. 'Grateful to PM Modi for flagging off Vande Bharat Train between Amritsar to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Station. J&K's transport infrastructure, particularly in railways, has witnessed unprecedented growth under the leadership of PM. New Vande Bharat Train will ensure ease of travel for devotees of Mata Vaishno Devi and spur the growth momentum of the local economy,' he said in a post on X. Referring to the first freight train reaching the Anantnag station in south Kashmir from Punjab on Saturday, Sinha said it marks a significant milestone in the Kashmir valley's transport infrastructure and trade. Addressing the gathering before the flag-off ceremony at the Katra railway station, deputy chief minister Choudhary lauded Modi for making the dream of railway connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of the country a reality. 'We are lucky to witness the dreams that our elders saw getting fulfilled under the leadership of Modi. Our PM and chief minister Omar Abdullah flagged off the first train from Katra to Kashmir (on June 6) -- a historic moment as many were of the opinion that the train could never reach Kashmir, which was infamous for terror activities. But the region has witnessed fast development,' he said. He welcomed the launch of the new Vande Bharat train service between Katra and Amritsar and said it is a proud moment for people as the train is going to connect two revered shrines -- the Vaishno Devi temple and the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
