AfDB Approves €100 Million for Agriculture Program to Support Moroccan Women, Youth
The initiative, called the Program for Supporting Inclusive Solidarity Agriculture for Women and Youth (PAASIFEJ), aims to create lasting opportunities for women and young people while strengthening food security and preparing Morocco's small-scale farmers for climate change challenges.
The program will stimulate entrepreneurship among women and youth in rural areas by establishing tailored financing and incentive mechanisms.
It will also strengthen technical and financial support systems to help participants succeed in their ventures.
The initiative plans to deploy new agricultural production and service infrastructure, which will consolidate women's participation in local value chains, enhance their skills, and increase their productivity.
According to the AfDB, these actions will foster the emergence of women entrepreneurs in agriculture, para-agriculture, processing, and digital sectors. The program supports Morocco's new employment roadmap by promoting rural entrepreneurship.
Achraf Tarsim, the AfDB's country manager for Morocco, outlined the program's priorities. 'Women who have the ambition to start businesses and succeed in agriculture are our priority,' he said.
'Through this new operation, we will accompany them step by step to build modern, inclusive, and resilient agriculture, capable of revealing the full potential of those who aspire to innovate and create value and employment in their territories,' Tarsim added.
The program aligns perfectly with Morocco's priorities and will support the implementation of the 'Generation Green' strategy 2020-2030, a national vision seeking to transform agriculture into a more inclusive, sustainable, and high-performing sector.
The initiative also backs the state-led National Solidarity Agriculture Program and the National Youth Entrepreneurship Program, creating synergies across Morocco's larger development framework.
The African Development Bank has partnered with Morocco for over fifty years, building collaboration based on a shared and integrated vision of development.
The institution has mobilized nearly €15 billion to date, financing more than 150 high-impact projects in strategic sectors including transport, water, energy, agriculture, social protection, governance, and finance.
This latest approval demonstrates the bank's continued commitment to supporting the North African country's agricultural transformation while empowering women and youth as key drivers of rural development. Tags: AFDBagricultureMoroccoYouth and women

Under HM the King's Leadership, Morocco Stands out as Emerging Power in Africa
The Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, stands out as an 'emerging power' in Africa, thanks to outstanding performance and forward-looking choices, African Development Bank (AfDB) President Akinwumi Adesina said. In a statement to MAP, Adesina emphasized that Morocco, which is undergoing a strong transformative momentum as highlighted in the speech delivered by His Majesty the King on the occasion of the Throne Day, stands out for the consistency and coherence of its economic and social progress. Morocco's strategic positioning, he said, is rooted in a clear and ambitious vision supported by an integrated development strategy, economic, social, and environmental, grounded in stable governance and carefully considered policy choices. This methodical and determined approach, he added, has enabled the Kingdom to emerge as one of the most advanced nations on the African continent. 'As part of its New Development Model, the Kingdom has strengthened its economic fundamentals,' Adesina said, pointing to genuine sectoral diversification, a well-managed openness to global markets, and firm integration into regional and global value chains as signs of Morocco's economic emergence. The country's industrial revival, particularly in the automotive, aerospace, and renewable energy sectors, reflects this upward trajectory, bolstered by an ambitious infrastructure policy and solid macroeconomic environment, which enhance Morocco's appeal to international investors, he noted. 'Driven by the major development projects launched by His Majesty the King, our relations with the Kingdom continue to grow stronger, in order to support and accompany these multi-faceted advances for the benefit of the country and the Moroccan people,' Adesina concluded. Under HM the King's Leadership, Morocco Establishes Itself as Emerging Economic Power
The major strides made by Morocco under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI have enabled the Kingdom to enhance its international attractiveness and establish itself as an emerging economic power, said African Development Bank (AfDB) President Akinwumi Adesina. Thanks to its political stability and growing appeal, Morocco has succeeded in effectively mobilizing capital by diversifying its sources of financing, Adesina told MAP on the occasion of the celebration of the Throne Day. This positive momentum, he noted, has resulted in a significant increase in foreign direct investment (FDI), a sustained development of the capital markets, and greater reliance on international financing and public-private partnerships. He further recalled that over the past two decades, Morocco's gross domestic product (GDP) has doubled, alongside the development of world-class infrastructure that reflects the Kingdom's bold ambitions. In this regard, he cited landmark projects such as the Noor Ouarzazate solar complex, one of the largest in the world, the strategic ports of Tanger Med and Nador West Med, both major intercontinental maritime hubs, as well as Africa's only high-speed rail line. These achievements, he said, illustrate Morocco's emerging trajectory. Adesina also emphasized that substantial investments have been strategically directed toward high-potential sectors such as the automotive industry, digital economy, and renewable energy. These efforts have contributed to boosting the competitiveness of Moroccan companies, accelerating the diversification of national production, and multiplying the levers for sustainable growth across the Kingdom.
