Peel Thunder premiership defender Michael Sellwood has become the first WAFL player picked up in the mid-season rookie draft after landing at the Western Bulldogs.
Selwood was taken by the Bulldogs with the No.5 in the draft after a stellar 18 months for the Thunder as a key part of their premiership side.
The 21-year-old is averaging 24 disposals, 81 per cent kicking efficiency and 10 intercept possessions in the first seven game, while also starring for the WAFL in the breakthrough win over the SANFL.

Subiaco forward Archer May was the next WAFL player to go only one pick later with Essendon pouncing on the spearhead with pick No.6.
May has kicked 12 goals in six games for the Lions before sitting out the weekend's loss to South Fremantle after nearly being guaranteed an AFL lifeline.
The 20-year-old came over to the Lions from the Richmond VFL program where he has proven to be a strong forward, averaging 14 disposals, six marks and six score involvements as well as two goals. West Perth wingman Roan Steele has landed at Collingwood with pick No.8 after The West Australian revealed he had a medical with the Magpies while they were in town to take on Fremantle earlier this month.
Steele, 23, crossed to the Falcons from Casey Demons and has averaged 21 disposals and kicked five goals in seven games.
East Fremantle ruckman Lachlan Blakiston has landed at Essendon with pick No.13 after a strong past 12 months.
The 203cm big man was close to being drafted by Geelong and St Kilda before last year's draft but joins the Bombers to help fill the void in their ruck depth with the loss of Nick Bryan (knee) and Sam Drapher (Achilles) to season-ending injuries.

Fremantle's horror night summed up by Josh Treacy's ‘disaster' moment in loss to Brisbane

Fremantle big man Josh Treacy summed up his side's performance with a nightmare moment in Friday night's loss to Brisbane. In a high-stakes clash, the reigning premiers flexed their muscle with a brilliant victory as the shellshocked Dockers had no answers. The Lions kicked the only three goals of the first term and then put the foot down with a dominant third quarter to silence the Optus Stadium crowd. Treacy had earlier kicked two goals, but threw away a certain third with a monumental blunder. After taking a strong mark at the top of the goalsquare, Treacy turned around and played on with the goals at his mercy. But he took a fraction too long to get the kick away and that gave veteran Lion Ryan Lester just enough time to disrupt the attempt. 'Oh no! A calamity, a disaster,' commentator Anthony Hudson said. Garry Lyon added: 'It's a Nick Riewoldt moment,' in reference to the famous incident from the 2010 grand final replay. The Dockers were trailing by 32 points at the time and needed a spark in the shadows of three-quarter time. Rising Star contender Murphy Reid did provide that with a long-range goal, but the Lions had the immediate reply through Cam Rayner. Hugh McCluggage nailed the first of the final term as the Lions cruised towards the crucial victory.

Zippy Fish: East Fremantle product stars on AFLW debut for Sydney in win over Richmond

Zippy Fish is the owner of one of the best monikers in football, but the WA product has proved there is more to her game than her name with a show-stealing performance on AFLW debut for Sydney. The East Fremantle product gathered 25 disposals and notched a game-high 511 metres gained as the Swans started their campaign with a 20-point victory over Richmond on Friday night. Despite owning a standout junior resume, including starring in the Sharks' 2023 WAFLW premiership win as a 17-year-old and breaking the competition's single-game record for disposals with 39 last year, Fish slipped to the fifth pick of the most recent draft. She previously would have had the choice between nominating solely for Fremantle or West Coast or make herself available to all 18 clubs, but last year's draft was the first to be fully national. The performance was the latest in a series of standout moments for the 2024 draft class in its first game at the top level — No.7 selection Lucia Painter produced a three-goal third quarter in West Coast's victory Gold Coast, while top pick Ash Centra claimed a brilliant contested mark and slotted her first major at the level in Collingwood's loss to Carlton. Earlier this week, Western Bulldogs premiership star Lachie Hunter — now an assistant coach with the Swans' AFLW program — told The West Australian Fish had looked 'totally comfortable' through her first season with the Swans. 'Even though she's playing down back, she's able to do some some things that not many kids are at that age,' Hunter said. 'People often don't have that when they're 18 years old — ball in hand, like, it can often look a bit jittery and you've still got to get used to the speed of everything but it really hasn't been the case. 'She's probably one of our best, ball-in-hand, already at 18, which is obviously something that's highly regarded for years to come. If you're doing that at 18, who knows where it can end up but she looks right at home. 'It seems odd to me that it seems to be this comfortable for her at 18 years-old.' Another hugely talented West Australian, Molly O'Hehir, selected two spots higher than Fish at No.3 last year, is set to debut for Melbourne in their clash with Western Bulldogs on Saturday.
