Conor Coady sees Rangers transfer suffer setback as Wrexham 'make move'
Wrexham have reportedly joined Rangers in the race to land Conor Coady.
The Leicester defender has been been on Russell Martin 's radar all summer following the Foxes relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season but is now said to be in the sights of the big spending EFL Championship club.
Coady is into the final year of his contract at the King Power Stadium but has featured heavily in Leicester's pre-season schedule despite his uncertain future.
Spanish coach Marti Cifuentes has taken up the reins with the Foxes following Ruud van Nistelrooy's departure and has hinted that the former Liverpool youngster is part of his plans for the coming season.
Martin has bolstered his defensive ranks at Ibrox with the arrivals of Emmanuel Fernandez from Peterborough as well as Max Aarons and Nasser Djiga on loan from Bournemouth and Wolves respectively.
The ex Scotland international sees Coady, 32, as someone who could add some much-needed experience to his back line.
However, Mail Sport now report that The Red Dragons - owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - want to bring in the England international as part of their ambitious plan to reach the English top-flight by 2027.
Wrexham have secured back-to-back promotions to the Championship and the report adds that former Wolves skipper and 10-time England cap Coady is impressed with the intent shown by the mega-rich duo.
The Racecourse Ground side have already smashed their transfer record twice in the summer window so far, snapping up Empoli's Liberarto Cacace for around £4million before splashing £5million on Lewis O'Brien from Nottingham Forest.
Wrexham - managed by Phil Parkinson - are set to break the ceiling for a third time with the club closing in on a £7.5million deal for Ipswich Town forward Nathan Broadhead.

Northern Ireland winger heads for Cyprus after being told he has no immediate future at Rangers
The Rangers star had been on the radar of teams across Europe and America. He made just four league starts last season, sparking speculation that he may move away from Ibrox despite having two years left on his contract. New manager Russell Martin has now allowed McCausland to link up with the Cypriot First Division side – and the deal also contains a conditional obligation to buy. The 22-year-old has made 64 senior appearances for Rangers. The former Linfield man, who has earned five caps for his country, missed June's doubleheader with Denmark and Iceland due to injury. The Scottish Premiership side stated: "Rangers can today confirm attacker Ross McCausland has joined Aris Limassol on-loan until the end of the season. The deal also contains a conditional obligation to buy. 'McCausland, who has 64 appearances and seven goals under his belt for Gers, heads to the Cypriot First Division side, who are also going through Conference League qualifying at present. He heads to Aris with the best wishes of everyone at the Rangers.' McCausland, who came through the Gers academy, will link up with ex-Ibrox pair Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun at Limassol. His move comes after Martin provided an update on departures at his press conference. The 39-year-old addressed the media ahead of his side's Scottish Premiership season-opener against Motherwell on Sunday. He said: "We have a fair few players who have interest in them who know that their career probably needs to move on to play football. "And we've still gone and done Mikey (Moore), we did (Djeidi) Gassama, there's been players that we've done. But obviously, by the end of the window, we definitely can't have them all in here. But I don't think it's a case of having to wait, we need them to go first." McCausland enjoyed a promising start to his Rangers career and established himself under ex-boss Philippe Clement, but he is now surplus to requirements under Martin.

The lowdown on our new 25/26 numbers… 💬 — Brighton & Hove Albion (@OfficialBHAFC) August 1, 2025 With Carlos Baleba opting to have 17 on his back ahead of the 2025/26 campaign and vacating 20, Milner, who has been Brighton's number six, has swooped in to pay a touching tribute to Jota. 'Once I heard Carlos was looking to change his number and 20 was available, I wanted to do it as a mark of respect and pay tribute to Diogo Jota,' Milner said on the club's X channel. 'He was an amazing player who I was fortunate to play with and a great friend as well. 'It will be a great honour to wear his number in the Premier League this year.' Milner – whose contract was extended by Brighton in June for another season, which will take him past his 40th birthday – was among a number of Jota's former team-mates who attended his funeral in July.
