Oasis fans believe Noel Gallagher's 'tears' prove important point about reunion

Metro10 hours ago
It was an emotional night for Britpop fans yesterday in Cardiff as Oasis kicked off their first tour in 16 years.
Yet it wasn't just the bucket hat-wearing crowds who got wrapped up in the poignancy of the moment.
Keen-eyed concertgoers couldn't help but notice that Noel Gallagher appeared to be crying at the start and the end of the show.
Those keen to defend Noel, 58, from accusations that he only agreed to reunite with his brother Liam for money are now using this as proof that the Oasis reunion isn't a 'cash grab'.
'Seeing this photo of Noel crying before and then calling Liam over for a hug afterwards, it's clear to see this was not just a simple cash grab,' wrote @dylanwhxtbread on X.
'I hope everyone who said that Noel did this for a cash grab realised how much they were talking outta their *rse,' agreed @natonfilm.
'Noel put his whole heart & soul into this performance, ' they continued. 'He literally called Liam over for a hug and was in tears. This means just as much to him as it does for Liam.'
Meanwhile, @DlRTYSHlRT wrote, 'Some were saying that Noel was doing this as a cash grab, but tonight he walked on stage crying and ended the show by calling Liam over for a hug.'
The sentiment wasn't exclusive to X on the Oasis section of Reddit Fantastic_Vast_5078 argued with another fan that Noel wouldn't be getting so emotionally invested if he were purely motivated by money.
'There's a big difference between emotional and miserable, they argued. 'Due to their past, we kind of know what a miserable, doesn't want to be there, Noel looks like. It looks nothing like tonight.'
Warp 757 took a more balanced view, agreeing that the Noel fans saw last night 'was a very different Noel to the last Oasis tour.'

They said it was fair if Noel found the situation 'overwhelming' but said they thought Noel was 'on fire' and 'clearly enjoying himself once he settled in'.
'It's possible the decision was originally made for financial reasons,' they finished. 'But now he is actually enjoying it and they're getting on better than expected.'
The rumours that Noel only agreed to an Oasis reunion for financial reasons started to circulate almost as soon as the group's tour was announced.
Our Deputy TV editor (and proud Mancunian) Tom Percival shares his thoughts…
It's easy for cynics to claim that Noel only agreed to do the tour for money, and perhaps there's a grain of truth in that.
But I challenge anyone to watch Noel and Liam's performance last night and not say that both brothers weren't giving it their all – Liam sounded better than he has in years, and Noel was playing lead on so many songs.
It would have been relatively easy for the brothers to coast through this gig, but neither did. They put their heart and soul into it for the fans and for themselves.
Fans were quick to point to Noel's recent divorce from Sara MacDonald – which reportedly cost the star £20million – as the reason for his sudden decision to get the band back together.
The tour is expected to net Noel and Liam £50 million each, and there have been unverified reports that this helped motivate the older Gallagher to bury the hatchet with 'our kid'.
It doesn't help matters that in 2015, Noel told Q magazine [via Rolling Stone] that he'd only do it 'for the money'. More Trending
'Would I do it for charity? No way,' he said. 'We're not that kind of people. For Glastonbury? I don't think Michael Eavis has got enough money.
'But would we get back together one day? As long as everybody is still alive and still has their hair, it's always a possibility. But only for the money.'
In 2016, Noel would also Rolling Stone, 'Look, to be honest, I don't need the money. But that might change if they get offered $50 million 10 years from now.'
Metro has reached out to Noel to see why and is he was Crying His Heart Out.

Noel's 25-year-old daughter Anais was in the crowds as she rocked out to her uncle and dad's numerous hit tracks. She posted a photo of herself having a smashing time with a pint in her hand and donning a blue Oasis shirt. The model and photographer captioned the photo: "It's good to be back." Anais' mother Meg Mathews, who was married to Noel from 1997 until 2001, was also present at the concert. But Meg reportedly "walked out" of the band's comeback gig - just moments before "her song" was played Along with die hard Oasis fans, celebrities turned up in the masses to see the iconic band return to the stage to sing 23 of their best loved tunes. One person who made sure they were there was Noel's ex-wife Meg. The socialite has been a big supporter of Oasis' comeback, so she was there to show her support on the tour's first night. She was spotted arriving at the gig in Cardiff in "good spirits", as she took her seat with friends. Noel Gallagher's ex-wife Meg Matthews spotted at Oasis comeback gig A source told The Mirror: "After posting about her ex-husband for weeks, Meg Mathews had a prime seat for watching the band. "She was in great spirits before the set, watching Richard Ashcroft with pals." However, after Oasis' two hour set the band came back with a three song encore which included Don't Look Back In Anger, Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova. The Mirror reports that it was at this moment Meg decided to "walk out" and leave the gig. Hardcore fans will remember that Noel actually wrote Wonderwall for Meg, when they were together. Speaking about his then-girlfriend back in 1996, the rock said: "It's about my girlfriend, Meg Mathews. "She had a company which folded and she was feeling a bit sorry for herself. "The sentiment is that there was no point in her feeling down, she has to sort my life out for me because I'm in bits had the time." GIG OF THE CENTURY It's fair to say last night's Oasis comeback did NOT disappoint. Fans were treated to performances by Cast, a Britpop band from Liverpool, and The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft before the Gallagher brothers made their long awaited return to the stage. Oasis proved they were worth the 16 year wait, playing a whopping 23 songs from their impressive back catalogue including Roll With It, Stand By Me, and Talk Tonight. Before Cigarettes & Alcohol Liam dished out orders to the crowd, saying: 'I want you to do us a favour. I don't ask much. 'I want you to turn around, every single one of you 'Put your arms around each other like you like each other and when the tune starts you jump up and down. 'Its f***ing easy.' After last night's gig, Oasis play another night in Cardiff before moving on to Heaton Park in their native Manchester for five nights. Then the band heads to Wembley Stadium for five nights from July 25 and then on to Edinburgh and Dublin, with the first part of their UK leg ending at Croke Park on August 17. Oasis then heads over Canada and America for gigs in Toronto, Chicago, LA and Mexico City before returning to London for two more dates at Wembley at the end of September. They then move on to Asia, Australia and South America, finally ending their tour on November 23 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. You can check out every moment from last night's first show in our Oasis blog.

I watched Oasis reunion show in Cardiff - one moment gave away Noel Gallagher's true feelings

I watched Oasis reunion show in Cardiff - one moment gave away Noel Gallagher's true feelings One reviewer in the crowd has described the moment Noel Gallagher's 'mask slipped' as she watched him reunite with brother Liam - having apparently reconciled their tempestuous relationship for the Oasis Live 25 tour Noel Gallagher 'finally broke' during one moment on stage in Cardiff with Oasis (Image:) It was the moment Oasis fans thought they'd never see as Noel and Liam Gallagher strode onto stage hand in hand in Cardiff. Their first Principality Stadium show was a reunion 16 years in the making after the brothers' famously rocky relationship broke up the band in 2009. Those in the crowd could be forgiven for wondering whether the rift was truly repaired at first. After putting on a united front for their entrance, the pair "barely glanced at each other on stage" throughout their opening night set, one reviewer observed. Follow our Oasis night two live blog for updates from inside the Principality Stadium tonight. ‌ Writing for The Mirror, Deputy Head of Showbiz Lucy Needham described how "the only time they interacted at all during the two hour set" on Friday July 4 was when they sang together on second song Acquiesce. ‌ She wrote: "Fans hoping for banter between the tempestuous Manc brothers might have been disappointed. Noel in particular maintained his signature stoic look on stage, focusing on his guitar and the crowd in front. That was until one moment in the second half gave away how he was really feeling to be back with Liam." From superstar gigs to cosy pubs, find out What's On in Wales by signing up to our newsletter here . It was Noel who quit the band in 2009, saying he "simply could not go on a day longer" working with his younger brother after one backstage brawl too many. While Liam has made no secret of his wish to reconcile and reunite, Noel has previously shot down any suggestion they could ever share a stage again. Liam and Noel Gallagher put on a united front as they make their first Oasis reunion show entrance in Cardiff Article continues below Cynics may well claim they're only in it for the money. "Was it worth the £4,000 you paid for a ticket?" Liam asked the crowd at one point, in a dig at the dynamic pricing controversy when tickets went on sale. But there was "one giveaway" that showed it meant so much more to the pair - and Noel in particular, Lucy observed. "It was during Half the World Away that Noel finally cracked himself," she wrote. "Watching the euphoric reaction as the lyrics to his 1998 track were roared back at him, a misty-eyed Noel finally broke and stopped singing as he stepped back from the microphone and took in the emotion of the occasion. ‌ "As a close-up of his face was beamed across the big stage, fans were stunned to see the famously grumpy brains behind Oasis even appear to have tears in eyes for a brief moment. It was the one giveaway that confirmed Noel was truly glad to be back. "While Liam has been tweeting daily since the news of the comeback was confirmed last August, little has been heard from Noel. But last night fans got a chance to see for themselves just how much it really means." Oasis play a second night in Cardiff tonight and will then visit Manchester's Heaton Park, London's Wembley Stadium, Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium and Dublin's Croke Park throughout July, August and September. The group will then head to Japan, South Korea, South America, Australia and North America. Article continues below
