Heavy and continuous rainfall has disrupted normal life in Shimla, leading to the closure of most educational institutions in the district.
Authorities in six subdivisions--Chopal, Kumarsain, Rampur, Sunni, Jubbal, and Theog--have ordered the closure of all educational institutions, including government and private schools, colleges, ITIs, and Anganwadis, on August 6, under the Disaster Management Act to ensure the safety of children and prevent any untoward incidents.
In Chopal, Kumarsain, Rampur, Sunni, and Jubbal subdivisions, the decision was made in response to relentless rainfall since midnight.

Similarly, in the Theog sub-division, continuous heavy rainfall since the previous night prompted the closure of all educational institutions, with staff directed to follow standing government orders. The closures aim to mitigate risks amid the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
Most of the districts in the state, including Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur institutions, are being closed as per development by the concerned SDMs in their respective sub-divisions.
Meanwhile, the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway remains closed due to heavy rainfall and landslides between Mandi and Kullu.
Himachal Pradesh has reported a total of 194 deaths and a cumulative loss of over Rs 1,85,251.98 lakh during the monsoon season from June 20 to August 5 this year, according to a report by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA). The report, "Cumulative Statement Showing Damage During Monsoon Season-2025," details the significant human and property losses across the state.
According to the SDMA report, a total of 108 deaths were directly related to rain-triggered incidents.

'Moderate rain, thundershowers likely at isolated places towards evening or night. Maximum and minimum temperature are very likely to be around 29°C and 20°C respectively,' IMD forecast stated. At 7 a.m. on August 7, IMD issued a nowcast stating that Bengaluru rural and Bengaluru urban areas are likely to receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers accompanied by lightning and gusty wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at isolated places in next three hours.

An orange alert — indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall — is in effect for districts including Uttara Kannada, Haveri, Shivamogga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Gadag, Dharwad, Chikkamagaluru, and Belagavi. The Yamuna River in Delhi breached its warning level, standing at 204.79 meters at 7 AM on Thursday, August 7, a season's high. A warning has been sounded for a flood-like situation as relentless monsoon rains pound various regions of the country, driving river levels to alarming levels. The water level of the Yamuna has increased due to heavy rainfall during a phase of continuous showers that already resulted in extensive flooding and waterlogging. North Indian Rivers Swell Heavy rain in Uttar Pradesh has triggered a flood situation in Prayagraj district, causing everyday life to be critically disrupted due to widespread waterlogging and overflowing drains. All the way downstream, the Ganga River at Varanasi is also witnessing a steady escalation in its water level. The river was at 69.98 meters as of Saturday, perilously near its danger level of 71.26 meters, due to incessant rains from the hills to the plains. The floodwaters have already overspread some areas of Tulsi Ghat at Varanasi, leading officials to prohibit all boat operations on the Ganga as a precautionary measure. The Ganga has swelled tremendously in Rishikesh, with water seen reaching the idol of Lord Shiva at Aarti Sthal of Parmarth Niketan Ashram, a grim sign of the increased current. Of the 199 deaths, 108 were reported as direct rain-related disaster causalities due to landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, and electrocutions.
