Gladiator Nitro's life off camera as Olympian and millionaire as he joins Strictly
Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, known for his Olympic sprinting and his role on Gladiators: Epic Pranks, surprised viewers by becoming the first confirmed celebrity for Strictly Come Dancing 2025.
The announcement was cleverly delivered during a live segment on CBBC Newsround, where Harry disguised himself as the acclaimed choreographer Nicky Trott on Monday morning.
Appearing in character, Harry was set to discuss Nicky's recent collaboration with scientists on a study exploring the benefits of daily dancing.
However, Newsround presenter Jenny Lawrence quickly saw through the costume and revealed the true identity of her guest. It comes after Strictly fans were left disappointed as one star pulled out of a main role ahead of the series launch.
Dropping the disguise, Harry shared the real reason for his visit: he's signed up to compete in the next series of Strictly Come Dancing! This marks his exciting debut on the popular BBC show.
Produced by BBC Studios, the new season of Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this September, promising another thrilling lineup of celebrities and professional dancers.
Harry, 36, who is a champion sprinter, has been a top competitor in the UK from his youth.
At just 17, he made history by becoming the first athlete to clinch gold in both the 100 and 200 metres at the World Youth Championships, earning him the title of 2005 BBC Young Sports Personality Of The Year. "I was gifted from a young age," he remarked.
As he matured, this athletic dynamo secured gold in the 4x100 metres relay at both the European Championships and Commonwealth Games. His accolades include being a two-time Olympian and a World Bronze Medallist, among numerous other sporting triumphs.
He previously admitted that he draws inspiration from Muhammad Ali, with Harry expressing: "When the odds were against him and people didn't think that he'd be as successful as he was, that's one of the things that drives me. Sometimes in the face of adversity you've just got to drive through it."
Now in his mid-thirties, Harry juggles his role as an online fitness coach, managing a thriving app, with his ongoing commitment to athletics. His estimated net worth stands at £3.9 million.
The athlete towers at 5ft 11ins and boasts thighs measuring a remarkable 25ins around. His diet is predominantly protein-heavy, with steak for breakfast and cured meat snacks.
"I've been blessed with good genetics, obviously," Harry shared last year with Men's Health magazine.
Growing up in Leicestershire, he was an avid fan of the original Gladiators series, and he described being part of the new show as "a childhood dream come true".
"You think: 'Gosh, I played those games in the estate where I grew up and I've got the opportunity to actually bring it to life," he remarked. "It's a celebration of what we are and what we've done."
Harry enjoys a strong social media presence with an impressive 299,000 followers on Instagram and frequently uploads popular workout videos to YouTube.
In addition to fitness content, the father occasionally posts charming photos of his young daughter Aubreé-Isla, whom he affectionately calls his "Mini Me".

Bradley Walsh reveals The Chase 'ban' and says 'I'd be fired'
The Chase host Bradley Walsh has been presenting the ITV gameshow since it first aired in 2009 and appeared on BBC's The One Show ahead of the new series. Bradley Walsh has cautioned he'd be "fired" from The Chase if he implemented any major alterations. The cherished host, 65, has fronted the ITV quiz show since it launched in 2009, and is set to grace our screens again with a fresh series. Nevertheless, Bradley has assured viewers it won't differ from the usual format. Whilst appearing on The One Show tonight (Friday 15 August), Bradley faced questions about his hectic timetable. "You've got The Chase coming up, you've got Beat The Chasers as well, anything different we can expect from these series?" presenter Clara Amfo enquired, reports Bristol Live. Bradley promptly responded: "No they're the same, they're what you see on the tin. "I'm not allowed to do anything different, I think I'd get fired if I did anything different. "You've got to stick to the rules, and stick to the format." He continued: "You can have a laugh in between." This follows Bradley confessing he doesn't object to being perceived as "old and grumpy" whilst discussing his altered attitude towards the projects he accepts given his packed schedule. He revealed: "People say to me 'you never stop working', but here's the thing, and I tell every young performer this, 'if you enjoy the job you do, you will never do a day's work in your life'. "It's as simple as that. I try and have as much time as I possibly can off, but I just love what I do." The Gladiators host went on to tell My Weekly magazine: "As you know, the older you get, the more belligerent you get. I'm 65 now. "Do you know what age and experience brings? Freedom. Because you can say, 'Absolutely not. No, I'm not doing that. I don't want to go there'. "And people will just remark, 'He's just old and grumpy', well, that's fine by me." The Chase is available to watch on ITVX. The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer

Strictly Come Dancing's Karen Hauer's 'nasty' confession about ex husband Kevin Clifton
The Strictly Come Dancing professional has now split from her third husband, Jordan Wyn-Jones. Strictly Come Dancing professional Karen Hauer has split from her fitness pro husband, Jordan Wyn-Jones. It comes after the dancer was pictured without her wedding ring last week, just 16 months after the couple married. Jordan is Karen's third husband, with her first being former dance partner Matthew Hauer and her second fellow Strictly dancer Kevin Clifton who has now been with Stacey Dooley for five years. Karen said she was 'blindsided' by how quickly Kevin moved on in 2018, and was left 'struggling to get out of bed'. The star described the break-up with Kevin as the 'toughest period of her life' and praised her rescue dog Betty for helping her through the hard times, reports The Mirror. The pair married in 2015 after meeting on the New York leg of long-running live dance show Burn The Floor in 2011. At the time, Kevin was still with his second wife, ballet dancer Clare Craze, and he had also previously married amateur Latin world champion Anna Melnikova in 2003. According to Kevin, Venezuelan pro dancer Karen was everything he had been looking for. Of that time, he once said: "I wasn't myself - a lot of friends and family were telling me that. It was just a bit of a weird time. When I met Karen, I could get on with her on a completely different level." In 2015, he proposed on stage during a performance of Burn The Floor on Karen's birthday, and they married that same year in London. But looking back, Karen said it might have been too much, too soon, telling Closer magazine: "I don't think we were ready for marriage. We were still growing as performers, as people, as lovers, and sometimes you just can't find the right way to fix things." By 2016, rumours of trouble in paradise were swirling, and Karen recently revealed that their relationship "got really nasty overnight" as she battled with her mounting jealousy. "It's six years down the line and things started going wrong, just little things, like a phone call, like, 'You didn't call me the whole day'", she told The Divorce Club podcast. Of Kevin's reaction to her challenges, she continued: "Sometimes I would get the 'You're not very kind, you're not very nice' and I was like 'What do you mean? I don't understand.' There were little attacks that we would do to each other." But according to Karen, the rot really set in when she clung on tighter to the marriage amid her own sense of insecurity - a move which only caused more rows. She explained: "Then the fights, I was getting jealous, but I was only jealous because I wasn't getting the attention that I wanted from my husband and then I didn't understand why so I started gripping, trying to pull him. 'Why are you not doing this? Why are you not doing that?' Exactly what you're not supposed to do, I just wanted answers. And then it just got really nasty overnight." They tried therapy, but Karen said there was "too much anger and emotional baggage" for it to work. And finally, they woke up one morning, looked at each other and 'knew' it was over. "Eventually we both couldn't take it anymore," she added. Kevin and Karen confirmed their split in early 2018 but continued to work together on Strictly, which understandably made moving on more difficult. Especially as Karen admitted she'd wanted to save their marriage. "I would have never let go of it. I wouldn't have never, never let go of it." She continued. "I would have liked to have fought for it and it took me a year after we separated to actually let go of him. It took me a long time to cut the umbilical cord that I had connected to him. Because it was connected for such a long time and at a completely different level than my first marriage, because this marriage was what I was always looking for." BBC show that 'cost £30,000,000 axed after just one season'
Survivor has reportedly been cancelled by the BBC after just one season on the air. The new version of the reality show hit screens in 2023 in a primetime Saturday night slot with comedian Joel Dommett at the helm – and reportedly cost the broadcaster £30,000,000 to produce. Survivor saw 18 people compete in a series of challenges on a desert island to win £100,000, just as the original noughties show had tasked contestants with. Yet the programme struggled to attract viewers. Survivor was reportedly in jeopardy as soon as after the first episode aired on the BBC, because it only attracted 2.6 million viewers on average, despite airing in the post-Strictly Saturday slot. The ratings were around two million less than the numbers Michael McIntyre's The Wheel pulled in the week prior – which allegedly prompted crisis talks among TV execs at the time. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video There had been rumours the show was on the chopping block last year and it has now been reported that Survivor is no more. Joel told The Sun: 'It just shows you how nothing is a given in telly. I thought Survivor would be huge. I thought that would be my job for the next 20 years. 'I've done shows and thought that's not coming back and it keeps coming back and then you do something like Survivor, which you think is guaranteed and it doesn't come back.' More Trending Joel told Metro last year he remained hopeful Survivor would return for a second season – although he admitted it needed an overhaul. He said: 'Fingers crossed… there's a lot of stuff that we would do slightly differently. Like with every first series, it's hard, so I think a second series would be amazing. 'Everyone seems to really love it, so I'm excited that – hopefully – [we get to] do another one.' View More » Metro contacted the BBC for comment. Got a story?
