She went viral for her comments about the so-called 'catch-up trap' and being open about her fertility struggles on social media but Tanya Hennessy says she 'hates' being labelled as an influencer.
In a new interview with the Stellar podcast Something To Talk About, the 39-year-old – who rose to fame on radio and as a contestant on I'm A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! – is critical of the word.
'I work in comedy, I write TV scripts, I do columns, I'm an author, I do radio shows, and I make social media content. I would say I'm a social media creator,' Hennessy told Stellar.
'I used to write the word 'influencer' out of all my contracts because what it really means is to influence sales. If the word was to influence joy, positivity or positive change, I'd be like, great, but it's to influence sales and being aligned as a commodity didn't feel comfortable.'
'I don't like the word influencer!' Tanya Hennessy – radio presenter and former star of I'm A Celeb. Picture: Steven Chee for Stellar
Listen to the full interview with Tanya Hennessy on Something To Talk About below:
'It still doesn't. That is why I don't like the word 'influencer' for me. Some people do identify with it. I hate it actually.'
Hennessy, who married long-term partner Tom Poole last year in September, has been public about discussing her fertility struggles and undergoing IVF.
She told Something To Talk About that she initially spoke about IVF because she thought 'after the first two rounds, it would just work.' The content creator is now on her seventh round of IVF.

'There is a part of me that goes I'm glad I shared it because you can see the exhaustion of it. It's not solved, it's a process.
'It's not, 'Oh, Tanya said she had infertility struggles, two weeks later she's pregnant.' It's 'Tanya says she had an infertility problem, five years later, she's still experiencing it.' That is important to see.'
For more from Tanya, listen to her on Something To Talk About:
She has also been open about losing weight as part of her fertility journey, and understands why people are 'curious' about her changing body image.
'I feel different, but I also feel like I understand why people want to comment on it because I look different. I get it.
'I gained a lot of weight in the media, and then I was just like, can we just not talk about my body at all? I guess that's how I want people to see me because I will fluctuate and I am going to continue to fluctuate my whole life.
'I want to see my soul and my heart before you see the way I look.'

Anna Wintour closing in on Vogue successor

Don't miss out on the headlines from Celeb Style. Followed categories will be added to My News. Chloe Malle is the frontrunner to take over at Vogue from the fashion bible's legendary editor Anna Wintour. Malle — the daughter of actress Candice Bergen and French film director Louis Malle — is currently editor of and is in the 'final rounds' of interviews to be the new head of editorial content for US Vogue. Anna Wintour is stepping down after 37 years as Vogue's editor. Picture: AFP The 39-year-old is a favourite of staff at Vogue and recently interviewed Lauren Sanchez for her Vogue cover ahead of her lavish Venetian wedding to Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos. The New York Post reported that Condé Nast bosses, including CEO Roger Lynch and Anna Wintour, who is stepping down as Vogue's editor-in-chief, have whittled the shortlist down to the final few candidates. Vogue declined to comment. Nicole Phelps, global director of Vogue Runway – the online platform of Vogue dedicated to fashion shows – is also in the running. Chloe Malle, pictured with her famous mum Candice Bergen, is a hot favourite to succeed Anna Wintour at Vogue. Picture: Supplied The new editor should be announced by the beginning of New York Fashion week, which starts September 11 and runs through September 16. There are believed to be four to five favourites left, including some external candidates. However, Instagram's Eva Chen, a friend of Wintour's, is no longer believed to be in the running as her role is so big at Meta. Chen, who is Head of Fashion Partnerships at Instagram, previously worked on Condé Nast's Teen Vogue and Lucky. 'Eva is making a ton of money at Instagram,' said an industry insider. 'There is no reason for her to move over.' W Magazine owner Sara Moonves has also been linked to the role, but another source pointed out that she's too entwined with her publication to make the move. Similarly, Chioma Nnadi, who replaced Edward Enninful as Head of Editorial Content at British Vogue in October 2023, is happy in London and doing a great job. Wintour, 75, broke the news that she was stepping down as editor-in-chief of American Vogue in June after helming the fashion bible for 37 years. Picture: Getty Images 'When I became the editor of Vogue, I was eager to prove to all who might listen that there was a new, exciting way to imagine an American fashion magazine,' she told staff. 'Now, I find that my greatest pleasure is helping the next generation of impassioned editors storm the field with their own ideas, supported by a new, exciting view of what a major media company can be.' As previously reported, the new boss won't get Wintour's editor-in-chief title, and will be a head of editorial content instead. They will also report to Wintour, who is staying on as Vogue's global editorial director and chief content officer for Condé Nast. '[I'll be] paying very close attention to the fashion industry and to the creative cultural force that is our extraordinary Met Ball, and charting the course of future Vogue Worlds, and any other original fearless ideas we may come up with,' Wintour has said. Heartbreaking video of Kelly Clarkson in tears as she struggles through concert days before her ex-husband's death

Don't miss out on the headlines from Entertainment. Followed categories will be added to My News. Kelly Clarkson got visibly emotional onstage just days before her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, tragically died following a private battle with cancer. Page Six exclusively reported over the weekend that the star had been fighting back tears during her performance in Las Vegas on July 26. Now, a resurfaced video — originally shared via TikTok last month — shows Clarkson wiping away tears as she introduced Piece by Piece in Sin City. At one point, the 43-year-old singer joked to her Las Vegas Studio Session residency attendees about the magic of 'compartmentalisation'. Video Player is loading. Play Video This is a modal window. The singer appeared visibly distressed... ... more Clarkson previously revealed that she wrote the song about Blackstock. She released the catchy track in 2015 when they were still married. However, after their contentious divorce in 2020, the Grammy winner famously changed the lyrics — and reflected on the editing process during last month's performance. 'I've never rewritten a song more and I probably never will,' she explained to fans. 'I wrote this song with a lot of hope and projection for happiness and better than what was happening. And then, well, life set in.' Kelly Clarkson broke down in tears on stage. Picture: TikTok The resurfaced video was taken days before her ex-husband's death. Picture: TikTok. The TV star 'had to change the lyrics' because singing the original rendition was 'embarrassing' and not 'fun' for her. However, Clarkson now thinks the change sounded 'a little angry' for her liking. 'I just wanted to explain how it feels now. I'm 43. I've done some therapy, and I changed the lyrics now and I think it's perfect. I promise. I'm not gonna change it again,' she noted. 'It just represents, kind of, I don't know, I feel like we grow up, right?' the Kelly Clarkson Show host continued. 'And this is the more grown-up version of it.' When Clarkson found herself emotional once more, she turned her back to the audience and tried 'to pull it all together.' She fought back tears and exclaimed, 'Oh, s**t. Let's make it happen. Screw it, let's just sing it. This is Piece by Piece.' Brandon Blackstock passed away this month from cancer. Picture: Getty In the tweaked lyrics, Clarkson changed the 'he' pronouns to 'I' as she sang about someone 'collecting [her] up off the ground' and 'filling the holes' her father 'burned' in her. Instead of singing about a partner who 'takes care' of her, she crooned, 'I'm learning every day / How to love me / I let go of the shame / That you taught me.' She concluded the chorus — initially about a 'kind … man' and a 'father [who] could stay,' by singing, 'Piece by piece, I restored my faith / A heart can still beat, even if it breaks.' Clarkson abruptly cancelled her residency dates last week due to Blackstock being 'ill' — only for news to break one day later that the 48-year-old had lost a years-long battle to skin cancer. The singer, who shared daughter River, 11, and son Remington, 9, with Blackstock, has yet to comment publicly on his passing. Social media users praised Clarkson's emotional performance after the fact, with one pointing out, 'She did this knowing Brandon's time was coming to an end and her kid's hearts were going to break and she would be there for them to carry them through.' Another gushed, 'Knowing she was singing this knowing her children's father was dying hits different.' This story originally appeared on Page Six and is republished here with permission.
