Arsenal agrees deal with Sporting for striker Viktor Gyokeres — reports

Arsenal and Sporting CP have a total verbal agreement in place for the transfer of striker Viktor Gyokeres according to reports.
Sporting accepted Gunners' last bid of €63.5m plus €10m, agent will reduce his commission.
The 27-year-old Sweden international, a highly sought-after striker across Europe, is precisely the front man the north London club has been desperately searching for over the past two seasons.
As per reports from England, Gyokeres was focused only on joining Arsenal and, despite late interest from elsewhere, he did not consider any other team.
Gyokeres has scored 54 goals in 52 matches for Sporting last season, and was identified as Arsenal's preferred centre-forward target.
Arsenal was without a recognised No. 9 for much of 2024-25 following injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, as it finished second in the Premier League for a third consecutive campaign, ten points behind champios Liverpool with 17 fewer goals scored.

Liverpool Eyeing Rodrygo Amid Uncertainty Over Luis Diaz's Future

Last Updated: Diaz has courted interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, and the Merseyside club look at the Brazilian as a potential replacement if the Colombian opts to leave. Premier League champions Liverpool are reportedly interested in bringing in Real Madrid forward Rodrygo if Colombian winger Luis Diaz opts to explore pastures anew in the upcoming season. Diaz has courted interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, and the Merseyside club look at the Brazilian as a potential replacement. Rodrygo has found regular playing time hard to come by since the arrival of French World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe to the Spanish Capital City club and could look for a new challenge, possibly in England. Diaz has opened the doors for a Bundesliga switch as he reportedly asked Liverpool to consider incoming offers from the Bavarian giants in the case that the Reds were not ready to upgrade his existing contract with better terms. Liverpool have already strengthened their lineup ahead of the upcoming season with the signings of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili. Arne Slot and Co. shattered the British transfer record in order to rope in German starboy Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a whooping £135m after having completed the signing of Frimpong from the same side couple of weeks earlier in their attempt to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who made the switch to Real Madrid. Liverpool also signed Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia and Freddie Woodman on a free transfer from Preston North End. Real Madrid went trophyless in Carlo Ancelotti's final season as the boss of Los Blancos, and will look to remedy that in new boss Xabi Alonso's debut season at the Capital City side. view comments First Published: July 23, 2025, 12:21 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'Forever Your Little White One': Diogo Jota's Widow Rute Cardoso Shares Touching Note To Commemorate Wedding

Last Updated: Cardoso shared a post commemorating the completion of one month of the couple's wedding before the Portuguese star was snatched away by the cruel hands of fate. Rute Cardoso, the widow of late Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota took to social media to share a post commemorating the completion of one month of the couple's wedding before the Portuguese star was snatched away by the cruel hands of fate in a car crash in Spain. Jota met his untimely end on July 3, 2025, after a tragic car accident in Zamora, Spain, at just 28 years of age, alongside his brother Andre Silva. 1 mês do nosso 'nem a morte nos separa"Para sempre,A tua branquinha 🤍 — Rute Cardoso (@Rutecfcardoso14) July 22, 2025 '1 month of our 'not even death will part us," Cardosa's post read. 'Forever, Your little white on," she added. Jota married his partner, Cardoso, on June 22, just weeks before his passing. The couple had three children together. Jota began his youth career at Gondomar in 2005 before moving to Paços de Ferreira, where he made his senior debut in 2014. In 2016, he transferred to Atletico Madrid but was immediately loaned to Porto for a season and then to Wolves in 2017. His impressive performances for Wolves led to a permanent move to Molineux. Jota's remarkable achievements at Wolves, including helping the team win the EFL Championship title, earned him a transfer to Premier League giants Liverpool in 2020. With Liverpool, Jota won the Premier League, the FA Cup in the 2021-22 season, and the EFL League Cup. He was also part of the Portuguese team that won the UEFA Nations League in both the 2018/19 and 2024/25 seasons. Premier League champions Liverpool announced that they would retire the jersey No. 20 in honour of the late Portuguese forward. Born Diogo Jose Teixeira da Silva, he adopted the surname 'Jota' to distinguish himself from teammates with similar names in the youth academy. An avid gamer, Jota formed his own eSports team, Diogo Jota eSports, later renamed Luna Galaxy, and topped the FIFA 21 Championship table in February of that year. A versatile player capable of playing various roles along the front line, Jota clinched the Premier League title with Liverpool a month ago and followed it up with his second UEFA Nations League title. view comments First Published: July 23, 2025, 11:07 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Atletico Madrid Rope In Marc Pubill, Jesus Areso Returns To Bilbao

Last Updated: The Madrid giants did not reveal how much they shelled out to rope in the 22-year-old defender Pubill from Almeria, while Osasuna's Areso will return to the Basque side Bilbao. Spanish heavyweights Atletico Madrid completed the signing of Marc Pubill from Almeria on Tuesday after missing out on Osasuna's Jesus Areso, who signed for Athletic Bilbao. 'Our club and Almeria have reached a deal, as long as Pubill passes his medical and signs his new contract," Atletico said in a statement. The Madrid giants did not reveal how much they shelled out to rope in the 22-year-old defender, who was previously linked to a switch to Premier League side Wolves to the tune of £13 million. Areso will return to the Basque side Athletic Bilbao after leaving their reserve side in 2021 to make the switch to Osasuna. The 26-year-old's return set the club back by 12 million euros, according to reports. 'Athletic and Osasuna have reached a deal for the transfer of the full-back Jesus Areso, who signs for the red-and-whites until June 30, 2031," said Bilbao. Athletic finished fourth in the previous season of the Spanish top-flight as Ernesto Valverde and Co. also managed to tie down Spanish star winger Nico Williams fending off interest from champions Barcelona.
