Ndlovu, formerly stationed at the Tembisa Police Station, and Mudau, who served at the Norkem Park Police Station, are accused of conspiring to kill Mudau's ex-husband, Justice Mudau.
It is alleged Mudau promised to pay the hitmen using proceeds from a life insurance policy she had taken out in her ex-husband's name. However, instead of carrying out the killing, the hitmen tipped him off.
Ndlovu was sentenced in 2021 to six life terms in prison for the murders of five of her relatives and her partner.

Inkosi among suspects arrested for DA councillor's murder
THE political killings task team made a new breakthrough today when it arrested two people for the murder of DA councillor, Nhlalayenza Ndlovu, who was shot dead in December 2023 at his home in eMpophomeni, in Howick. THE last days of an eventful month of July are proving to be busy for the KwaZulu-Natal-based political killings task team, which has made another breakthrough in the murder case of a politician. This time around, the task team arrested two men in connection with the murder of a DA councillor from the Midlands. Earlier this week, the task team nabbed the former uMzimkhulu Local Municipality municipal manager, Zweliphansi Sikhosana, for the 2017 murder of former ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa. The latest arrests highlight the relevance and need for the task team despite the directive of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, who is on special leave, to disband it. Sikhosana made a short court appearance at the uMzimkhulu Magistrate's Court, where the matter was postponed to Friday. Earlier this month, on the sixth day of July, on a chilly Sunday afternoon, KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi made explosive allegations of political influence to disband the task team and certain politicians and top cops linked to the drug trade and the underworld. Today, the task team arrested two men for the murder of Nhlalayenza Ndlovu, who was the DA's chief whip in uMngeni Local Municipality. Ndlovu was shot dead at his house in eMpophomeni, Howick, in December 2023. The task team netted a 56-year-old Inkosi (traditional leader) and a 26-year-old suspect who is alleged to have coordinated the murder of Ndlovu whilst in Pietermaritzburg Prison. The pair are expected to appear in the Howick Magistrate's Court tomorrow on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder, and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The DA councillor was attached to the uMngeni Local Municipality at the time of his murder. The leadership and members of the DA are expected to be present in court to show support to the Ndlovu family. The DA's leader in KZN, Francois Rodgers, said they welcome the arrests. "This matter has been dragging on for some years now. Hopefully, this would bring some finality to both the family of Nhlalayenza and the party itself. Justice delayed is justice denied. "We trust that the prosecuting authority now has its ducks in a row so that we can get to some conclusion and there can be some accountability and consequence in what was a senseless and brutal murder of a public representative in front of his wife and small children. "We once again call on the SAPS and the NPA to ensure that this case is brought to a swift and successful prosecution and that every individual involved in this heinous crime is held accountable to the full extent of the law," said Rodgers.

Chief among two more arrested in KZN DA councillor murder case
The DA councillor was gunned down in front of his wife and children. The Political Killings Task Team in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has arrested two more suspects, including a chief, in connection with the murder of DA Councillor Nhlalayenza Ndlovu. Ndlovu was shot and killed in December 2023 at his home near Mpophomeni, in Howick. The 56-year-old chief was arrested along with a 26-year-old suspect who allegedly coordinated the councillor's murder from inside Pietermaritzburg Correctional Centre. Suspects to appear in court The pair faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Police national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says the suspects are expected to appear before the Howick Magistrate's Court on Thursday, 31 July. They join Thobani Masobho Hlongwa, 31, Khayelihle Shabalala, 31, and a traditional leader under the Nxamalala Tribal Authority, Zwelithini Buthelezi, 43. Ndlovu's murder At the time of his death, Ndlovu was attached to the Umgeni Local Municipality at the time of his murder. He was shot more than 10 times in front of his wife and children outside their KwaZulu-Natal home. 'He will be sorely missed,' Rodgers said. Following the chief whip's, the DA offered a R1 million reward for information that would lead to the conviction of the individuals who murdered him. 'We had lost hope' Speaking to the SABC in May, Ndlovu's younger brother Sthembiso said the arrest of Buthelezi – after handing himself over – brought some hope to the family. 'We had lost hope that the case will progress, but now the way things are going, we believe that everything will go accordingly. We are happy that he handed himself over to the police, even though we don't know his plan for that,' Sthembiso said. 'The death of our brother is still difficult to talk about. He left his wife and two children — one was just five months old. It's an uphill for his wife, who is now a single parent.' Another collar for SAPS' political killings task team
The South African Police Service's (SAPS') political killings task team has added more arrests to its long list of achievements. This time, the team has arrested two additional suspects, aged 56 and 26, in connection with the murder of Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor Nhlalayenza Ndlovu. Ndlovu, who served as a councillor in the uMngeni Local Municipality, was shot and killed in December 2023 at his home in Mpophomeni, Howick. The 56-year-old has been identified as a traditional healer while the 26-year-old is alleged to have coordinated the councillor's assassination while incarcerated at Pietermaritzburg Prison. They are expected to appear before the Howick Magistrate's Court on Thursday, 31 July. According to police reports, the two will join a pair of previously arrested suspects already charged in connection with Ndlovu's murder. The group faces charges including conspiracy to commit murder, murder, and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Since July 2018, over 130 individuals have been convicted for politically motivated crimes, including the murders and attempted murders of councillors. These convictions have involved both hitmen and those who issued hit orders. Earlier this month, the political task team secured the conviction of former African National Congress (ANC) Youth League leader Sindiso Magaqa's killer to 25 years' imprisonment. President Cyril Ramaphosa recently praised the task team for its 'tremendous work' and urged the Commission of Inquiry to act with urgency following allegations by KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkwanazi. Mkwanazi accused Police Minister Senzo Mchunu of interfering in police investigations and colluding in efforts to disband the Political Killings Task Team.
