
Police officer stabbed in Wiikwemkoong, two men in custody
A police officer in Wiikwemkoong was stabbed early Monday morning and was taken to Health Sciences North in Sudbury for treatment.
In a news release, Wikwemikong Tribal Police said the incident took place while officers were responding to an incident around 4 a.m. on Andrew Crescent.
The release said the officer 'sustained knife-related injuries,' but didn't say why police were responding or the sequence of events leading to the injury.
'We ask for continued patience and cooperation from the community as our police services work diligently to gather information and bring clarity to this situation,' the release said.
Two men, ages 19 and 20, 'have been taken into custody in connection with the occurrence.'
'There is no ongoing threat to public safety. The Ontario Provincial Police and UCCM Anishnaabe Police are assisting with the investigation.'

A man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with a house fire in Pickering that left a 69-year-old woman dead in June. The fire happened on the afternoon of June 11 in the area of Primrose Court and Fairport Road. A 69-year-old woman was found dead inside the residence. Following a post-mortem, police deemed her death a homicide. On June 19, a 34-year-old Pickering woman was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to murder, police said at the time. A 34-year-old man was also wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in connection with the investigation. In a news release Monday, police said the man was taken into custody last Friday.
