Some good petrol price news for South Africa's motorists
Both the petrol and diesel prices are set to drop – should market conditions remain the same for the next three weeks.
In recent days the rand has strengthened against the dollar while the brent crude price has dropped – a perfect recipe for good news for motorists.
Below, the latest projections as received by The South African website from the Central Energy Fund (CEF), effective Monday, 11 August. FUEL PRICE CHANGE Petrol 93 decrease of 12 cents Petrol 95 decrease of 6 cents Diesel 0.05% decrease of 10 cents Diesel 0.005% decrease of 12 cents Illuminating Paraffin decrease of 8 cents
If the market conditions were to remain consistent for the remainder of the month – an unlikely scenario with the rand/dollar exchange rate fluctuating and the oil price ever changing – a decrease of 12 cents is expected for petrol 93 octane motorists and a decrease of six cents for 95 users.
Meanwhile, diesel motorists would see something between a 10 and 12 cents per litre decrease.
Finally, illuminating paraffin is expected to drop by eight cents in price. FUEL PRICE IN SOUTH AFRICA IMPACTED BY TWO MAIN FACTORS:
1. The international price of petroleum products, driven mainly by oil prices
2. The rand/dollar exchange rate used in the purchase of these products
Oil price
At the time of publishing the brent crude oil price is $66.85 a barrel.
Exchange rate
At the time of publishing the rand/dollar exchange rate is R17.70/$.
The final overall price changes for both petrol and diesel will be confirmed early next month with the new prices taking effect at midnight on Tuesday, 2 September 2025.
Go easy on the accelerator until then, Mzansi. INLAND August Petrol 93 R21.51 Petrol 95 R21.59 Diesel 0.05% R20.00 Diesel 0.005% R20.04 Illuminating Paraffin R13.47 COASTAL August Petrol 93 R20.72 Petrol 95 R20.76 Diesel 0.05% R19.17 Diesel 0.005% R19.28 Illuminating Paraffin R12.46

How to automate your recruitment and win back valuable time
Image: Supplied If you're an employer, the volume of applications flooding in can be overwhelming. And if you're a job seeker, the endless waiting and lack of updates can quickly turn hope into frustration. Between paperwork, follow-ups, and interviews, it's easy for things to fall through the cracks. But the good news? High-volume Recruitment is revamping. And for many South Africans, it's becoming smoother and more efficient. Automation has become a recruitment lifeline. Thanks to recruitment automation, what used to be a frustrating, slow, and paper-heavy process is now faster, simpler, and more accessible - specifically on your phone. Whether you're chasing your next opportunity or racing to fill a vacancy, recruitment automation is reshaping the journey - for the better. Keep talent engaged 24/7 with automated chatbots Recruitment isn't a 9-to-5 job anymore. Candidates apply at all hours, especially younger, mobile-savvy applicants - but recruiters can't always respond instantly. Now imagine applying for a job and getting a reply immediately, even at night or on a weekend. One of these automations are HR chatbots. Often integrated with WhatsApp or web browsers, other chatbots are designed to operate 24/7. They greet applicants, answer common questions, collect application details, and provide immediate feedback. You might already use WhatsApp daily to chat with friends, now companies use it to connect with candidates. The result? Higher completion rates Faster screening Stronger engagement Better candidate experiences For job seekers, it means instant replies and less confusion. For employers, it's a more responsive and reliable recruitment process. Video Player is loading. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ No more ghosting - from either side. One of the biggest frustrations in recruitment? Silence. Candidates apply and never hear back. On the flip side, recruiters lose great applicants who vanish mid-process. Automation helps keep the conversation flowing. Forgot to upload a document? Missed an interview? Automated reminders and smart follow-ups nudge candidates to help them stay on track, without adding more admin to your teams. It's efficient, friendly, and makes the process more human, not less. More completed applications upfront mean fewer delays and less frustration for all. Filter fast, focus better For every vacancy, hundreds of CVs flood into recruiters' inboxes. Reviewing them manually is time-consuming and often overwhelming. Good candidates get missed. Unqualified ones slip through. Automation flips the script. Automated screening helps by filtering applicants based on location, experience, or qualifications. The benefits? Stronger shortlists Faster decisions Less waiting for everyone It's not about cutting corners, it's about getting to the right people faster. That way, employers get to the most relevant candidates faster, and applicants aren't left waiting weeks to find out if they got the job. The future of recruitment is fast, human, and automated Finding the right job, or the right person for the job, shouldn't be slow, frustrating, or unfair. Thanks to smart recruitment platforms like txthr by graylink, it doesn't have to be. With features like: An always-on WhatsApp chatbot to engage candidates 24/7 Automated CV screening to fast-track shortlisting Smart follow-ups to reduce drop-off EE-aligned workflows that support compliance Real-time dashboards that help recruiters hire better Employers can recruit faster, reduce admin headaches, and focus on building relationships, not chasing paperwork. Job seekers benefit from quicker responses, clearer communication, and a smoother, mobile-friendly experience that meets them where they are. Automation isn't about replacing people. It's about making recruitment smarter, more inclusive, and more human. Because when hiring works better, everyone wins.

BYD's affordable electric car to be called Dolphin Surf, with price under R400,000
The BYD Dolphin Surf is due to arrive in September. Image: Supplied With its cheeky, Lamborghini-inspired looks, BYD's compact electric hatchback will likely turn heads when it hits the South African market in September. A week after announcing its imminent arrival, BYD South Africa has confirmed that its new battery car will likely be called the Dolphin Surf, and not the Atto 1, as had been suggested previously. This matches its naming convention in Europe and South America, while in China, it continues to wear a Seagull badge. Yet regardless of what they're going to call it, BYD's smallest car will almost certainly become the nation's most affordable electric vehicle (EV). This was confirmed by a recent social media advert run by a BYD dealership in KwaZulu-Natal, which promised a starting price of less than R400,000. However, there have been rumours that it could start closer to the R350,000 mark. Mzansi's least expensive EV at present is the Dayun S5, priced at R399,900, but it's smaller than the BYD and considered suitable primarily for city use. BYD says its new EV will be priced for young professionals. Image: Supplied In terms of size, the 3,780mm-long BYD Dolphin Surf is sized roughly halfway between a Suzuki Celerio and Swift. As for battery and range figures, the local specifics have yet to be revealed. However, in overseas markets the Dolphin Surf is offered with a choice between two batteries. The smaller 30kWh unit offers a WLTP range of 220km in mixed conditions and 356km in city driving, while the larger 43.2kWh unit can manage 322km combined and 507km in the city, according to claims. Both feature the BYD Blade Battery, essentially a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a blade-like design that's said to enhance safety, durability, and performance. It also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology that allows the vehicle to operate as a power bank that can power external devices. The cabin is fitted with BYD's signature 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and there's also a voice command system that responds to 'Hi BYD'. The interior features a rotating touchscreen. Image: Supplied

Major vehicle assembly plant opens up in Durban
A popular car manufacturer has opened its largest vehicle assembly in South Africa, right along the sunny shores of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Mahindra South Africa officially inaugurated its new vehicle assembly plant on 12 August at Durban's Dube TradePort's Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The launch marks a major expansion in the country's automotive manufacturing landscape. This purpose-built facility, adjacent to Mahindra's original 2018 assembly site, replaces the semi-knocked-down (SKD) setup and enables full nuts-and-bolts assembly of the Pik Up range (both single- and double-cab variants). With capacity to assemble over 1 000 vehicles per month, the plant is designed for flexibility and future growth, including accommodating new models and increasing local component sourcing. The launch was attended by eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development Musa Zondi, Mahindra South Africa CEO Rajesh Gupta, and other dignitaries. Mayor Xaba described the move as a new chapter in local manufacturing, particularly in the automotive sector. This new Durban plant also coincides with Mahindra entering its third decade in South Africa. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
