Dive instructor arrested for assaulting tourist over scuba tank incident
The altercation traces back to Tuesday (July 22), when both men were on board a boat heading towards the waters off Pulau Timba-Timba for a scuba diving session. During the trip, the tourist's oxygen tank accidentally toppled over and landed on the instructor's foot, which caused him to become upset.
The situation escalated the next day when the 38-year-old instructor, after receiving medical treatment at Tawau Hospital, returned to the tour company to confront the tourist and demand compensation. A heated argument ensued, during which the suspect allegedly assaulted the man and threatened further harm.
A video of the altercation has since gone viral on social media. In the footage, the instructor is seen slapping the tourist in the face while arguing with him and a woman believed to be accompanying the tourist.
The trio were speaking in Mandarin during the exchange. After being slapped, the tourist is heard asking someone off-camera, 'Have you called the police?' Meanwhile, the woman can be heard repeatedly telling the instructor, 'Does it have anything to do with us?'
Semporna acting OCPD Deputy Supt Jaafar Hakim confirmed that the suspect was arrested and the case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.

SEGAMAT: A 73-year-old woman was burnt to death after a fire gutted her home and four other houses in Bukit Siput here on Friday, in what police believe involved elements of foul play. The victim's charred remains were found in the kitchen of her home, which she shared with several family members. Police have opened an investigation under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code for causing death without intent, and Section 436 for mischief by fire. "Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the nearest police station or the Segamat district police headquarters at 07-9324222," he said.

SEREMBAN: The search for a six-year-old boy reported missing in Johor last week took a tragic turn when his body was discovered buried in Rompin in Jempol today. Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the body of the boy was found at 4.30pm following the arrest of a 36-year-old man. "Preliminary investigations showed that the victim was murdered and buried in the Rompin area. "The suspect led police to the location after being taken into custody," he said in a statement today. The case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment for up to 40 years, and whipping. The New Straits Times has learnt that the man in police custody is related to the boy. However, police have remained tight-lipped about the ongoing investigation. Body of missing six-year-old boy from Johor found in Rompin, suspect arrested
SEREMBAN: Police have discovered remains believed to be those of a six-year-old boy reported missing in Johor Baru last week. State police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof stated that the victim's remains were found buried in an area in Rompin, Jempol, this evening (July 28). "Based on preliminary investigation, the remains are believed to be those of the six-year-old boy who was reported missing in Taman Bukit Indah in Johor Baru on July 24. "A 36-year-old male suspect was subsequently arrested by Johor police to assist in investigations," he said in a statement. DCP Ahmad Dzaffir confirmed that the victim's remains were found as a result of follow-up actions. The victim is believed to have been murdered. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Offenders can be sentenced to death or jailed between 30 years and 40 years and whipped upon conviction.
