Prince Harry throws shade at royal family, opens up on ‘discovering his own purpose'

Prince Harry attended the NEXUS Global Summit in New York City on Friday (June 27), where he seemingly threw shade at the royal family. During his fireside chat, 'Building Tomorrow: A Conversation on Service, Impact & Collective Action with Prince Harry,' with Rachel Gerrol, co-founder and CEO of NEXUS, the former royal spoke of his journey and 'discovering his purpose' over time. During his speech, Prince Harry spoke of his journey in the world of philanthropy, transitioning from 'being born into a life of service to discovering his own purpose.' He further urged all attendees to 'take care of each other and our children in the future,' along with pushing them to 'tackle the systems instead of the symptoms keeping us down.'
With about 350 leading philanthropists, impact investors, and social innovators in attendance, he inclined all attendees towards using their platforms to inspire meaningful collaboration and significant change, while reflecting on their legacies and ensuring that their investment aligns with a broader vision. These statements have led many royal watchers to quote this as an added instance of growing tensions between the former prince and the British Royal Family over his wife, Meghan Markle. What is the NEXUS Global Summit?
The NEXUS Global Summit is an annual conference held in New York City that brings together leading thinkers to talk about generational challenges. The theme for this year- Brave Voices and Bold Ideas- aimed to open up discussion on crucial topics like mental health, AI and technology for good, climate change, and impact investing among others. Christy Turlington and Emma Bloomberg were other notable speakers present at the event.
Prince Harry was invited as an undeclared speaker to represent the Archewell Foundation- an initiative pioneered by him and Markle in 2020 that focuses on three of the key aspects included in the summit- mental health, digital responsibility, and conservation. Prince Harry was last present in New York City for the Time100 Summit on April 27, which he attended to support his wife and speaker as she talked about her commercial ventures and the underlying beliefs behind them.
Markle and Prince Harry stepped down from royal duties in January 2020 and have since been devoting their time to philanthropic endeavors and raising their two kids (Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lillibet, 4) in Los Angeles, California. Tensions have been rife between the couple and the royal family ever since.

Norway-Israel investment exit: World's biggest wealth fund pulls out of 11 firms over Gaza war concerns, cites ‘extraordinary circumstances'

Norway's sovereign wealth fund — the world's largest — has announced the sale of its holdings in 11 Israeli companies, citing the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the broader conflict in the region. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Nicolai Tangen, chief of Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM), which manages the fund, said the decision was taken 'in response to extraordinary circumstances', AFP reported. 'The situation in Gaza is a serious humanitarian crisis. We are invested in companies that operate in a country at war, and conditions in the West Bank and Gaza have recently worsened,' Tangen said in a statement. Known as the oil fund due to its revenue source from Norway's vast energy exports, the sovereign fund is valued at around $1.9 trillion and has investments spread across the globe. The move comes days after Norwegian daily Aftenposten reported that the fund had invested in Israeli Bet Shemesh Engines Holdings, a manufacturer of parts for engines used in Israeli fighter jets. Tangen later confirmed the reports, noting that the stake in the company had even increased after the Gaza offensive began. Following the revelations, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store asked Finance Minister and former Nato secretary general Jens Stoltenberg to review the matter. NBIM disclosed that at the end of the first half of 2025, it held investments in 61 Israeli companies, of which 11 were not part of its 'equity benchmark index' — a reference portfolio set by Norway's finance ministry to measure the fund's performance. The wealth fund said it decided last week to sell all such off-benchmark holdings in Israeli firms 'as soon as possible'. It also stressed that it has 'long paid particular attention to companies associated with war and conflict', noting that since 2020 it has engaged with over 60 companies on such issues, including 39 linked to the West Bank and Gaza. Monitoring of Israeli firms was stepped up in autumn 2024, NBIM said, and has already led to divestments from several companies.

The semiconductors costing Nvidia, AMD dearly

By Isabel Kua Beijing: US semiconductor giants Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices will pay the United States government 15 percent of their revenue from selling artificial intelligence chips to China, according to media reports. Here is what you need to know about the chips and their role in the US-China tech war: Why are these chips so important? The chips in question, according to the reports, are Nvidia's "H20" chip and the "MI308" from Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD ). The California-based companies developed these chips -- less powerful than their flagship models -- specifically for the Chinese market. They are significant as they are AI "accelerators", meaning that they are useful in carrying out demanding tasks and computation, said Dylan Loh, an assistant professor at Singapore's Nanyang Technological University. "This is obviously a key tool to expand the AI-hungry demands of countries and companies building out their AI tools," Loh told AFP. Previously, the United States had been restricting the export of such chips on national security grounds. The two chipmakers had warned in April of big financial losses connected to these earlier constraints. Nvidia expected the previous rules to cost it $5.5 billion, while AMD forecast it could sap as much as $800 million from the company's bottom line. Why are sales to China controversial? Nvidia and other US chip companies have lobbied against the tough restrictions in recent years on selling cutting-edge semiconductors to China. That pressure appeared to have paid off last month, when Nvidia said Washington had pledged to let the company sell the H20 chips to China. The policy reversal has "raised eyebrows", Loh said. "These chips and many other chips have a dual use nature which means it can be used to advance their military capabilities in various ways," he told AFP. This includes the possible use of these chips potentially by US forces in the event of a confrontation, Chong Ja Ian, an associate professor at the National University of Singapore, told AFP. Defending the policy change last month, US President Donald Trump's AI point person David Sacks told CNBC the H20 was a "deprecated chip" that is "not anywhere close to the state of the art". He said the reversal on the H20 came because Nvidia's Chinese rival Huawei was making "huge strides" and could potentially threaten Nvidia's market dominance. Sunday's reported deal is "unprecedented" though, Chong said. "They do suggest the cost of market access in an environment of more intense major power competition," he added. There could still be obstacles ahead for the chipmakers. US lawmakers have proposed plans to require Nvidia and other manufacturers of advanced AI chips to include built-in location tracking capabilities. On Thursday, Trump demanded that the new boss of US chip maker Intel resign "immediately", after a Republican senator raised national security concerns over his links to firms in China. What does China say? China has meanwhile sought to increase its self-reliance in the field of semiconductors. Nvidia is facing growing distrust in China, with state media on Sunday labelling the H20 chips as unsafe. "The US government's decision to allow Nvidia to export the H20 to China inevitably raises some troubling concerns," said Yuyuan Tantian, an outlet affiliated with state broadcaster CCTV. It is not a secure chip for China, not advanced, and not environmentally friendly, it added in an article on social media platform WeChat. Beijing's top internet regulator summoned Nvidia representatives in July to discuss "serious security issues" involving the H20. The Cyberspace Administration of China said it had asked Nvidia to "explain the security risks of vulnerabilities and backdoors in its H20 chips sold to China and submit relevant supporting materials". The statement noted that, according to US experts, location tracking and remote shutdown technologies for Nvidia chips "are already matured".
