Reddit says it's doubling down on native search as it reports its 'most profitable quarter yet'
Google might be near synonymous with online search, but Reddit believes it can take a piece of that internet traffic pie.
"Reddit is one of the few platforms positioned to become a true search destination. We offer something special: a breadth of conversations and knowledge you can't find anywhere else," Reddit said in its Q2 report on Thursday. "Every week, hundreds of millions of people come to Reddit looking for advice, and we're turning more of that intent into active users of Reddit's native search."
Reddit said its core search product has 70 million weekly users, while Reddit Answers — its AI-powered search tool — has reached 6 million.
During Reddit's earnings call, CEO Steve Huffman said the company's next step is to integrate the two search products into one.
"I think it's really important that we start to merge those two," Huffman told analysts. "You'll probably hear us in the coming quarters talk less and less about Reddit Answers as a product, and more as a capability that we just layer into core search and integrate throughout the product."
COO Jen Wong said the company wants to invest in marketing to remind people of Reddit's search abilities, which could create new user behaviors.
"I think we are on this journey of building a Reddit unique search experience," Wong said.
Money-wise, Reddit said Q2 was its "most profitable quarter yet." The company's revenue grew 78% year over year to $500 million, its fastest quarterly growth rate since 2022. The company said its net income was $89 million.
Although Reddit launched two decades ago, the decision to go public in 2024 — with a $6.4 billion valuation — breathed new life into the social media platform. During its first 2024 earnings report, Reddit said daily active unique visits increased by 37%, while revenue jumped nearly 50% to $234 million.
That same year, Reddit entered a partnership with Google that allowed the search giant to train its AI models on Reddit's content. In return, Reddit gained access to Vertex AI, Google's machine learning platform, which has allowed Reddit to add enhanced search and other capabilities.
While the company has turned a profit over the last four quarters, some analysts are concerned that Reddit is overly reliant on Google for traffic, which they said could limit long-term value.

(NYSE: RDDT) between October 29, 2024 and May 20, 2025, both dates inclusive (the 'Class Period'), of the important August 18, 2025 lead plaintiff deadline. SO WHAT: If you purchased Reddit securities during the Class Period you may be entitled to compensation without payment of any out of pocket fees or costs through a contingency fee arrangement. WHAT TO DO NEXT: To join the Reddit class action, go to or call Phillip Kim, Esq. at 866-767-3653 or email [email protected] for more information. A class action lawsuit has already been filed. If you wish to serve as lead plaintiff, you must move the Court no later than August 18, 2025. A lead plaintiff is a representative party acting on behalf of other class members in directing the litigation. WHY ROSEN LAW: We encourage investors to select qualified counsel with a track record of success in leadership roles. Often, firms issuing notices do not have comparable experience, resources, or any meaningful peer recognition. Many of these firms do not actually litigate securities class actions, but are merely middlemen that refer clients or partner with law firms that actually litigate the cases. Be wise in selecting counsel. The Rosen Law Firm represents investors throughout the globe, concentrating its practice in securities class actions and shareholder derivative litigation. Rosen Law Firm achieved the largest ever securities class action settlement against a Chinese Company at the time. Rosen Law Firm was Ranked No. 1 by ISS Securities Class Action Services for number of securities class action settlements in 2017. The firm has been ranked in the top 4 each year since 2013 and has recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for investors. In 2019 alone the firm secured over $438 million for investors. In 2020, founding partner Laurence Rosen was named by law360 as a Titan of Plaintiffs' Bar. Many of the firm's attorneys have been recognized by Lawdragon and Super Lawyers. DETAILS OF THE CASE: According to the lawsuit, throughout the Class Period, defendants made false and misleading statements and/or failed to disclose that: (1) changes in Google Search's algorithm and features like AI Overview were causing users to stop their query on Google search; (2) these algorithm changes were materially different than prior instances of reduced traffic to the Reddit website; (3) defendants were aware that the increase in the query term 'Reddit' on search engines was because users were getting the sought after answer from Google Search without having to go to Reddit, and not because they intended to visit Reddit; (4) this zero-click search reality was dramatically reducing traffic to Reddit in a manner Reddit was unable to overcome in the short term; and (5) defendants, therefore, lacked a reasonable basis for its outlook on user rates and advertising revenues. When the true details entered the market, the lawsuit claims that investors suffered damages. To join the Reddit class action, go to or call Phillip Kim, Esq. at 866-767-3653 or email [email protected] for more information. No Class Has Been Certified. Until a class is certified, you are not represented by counsel unless you retain one. You may select counsel of your choice. You may also remain an absent class member and do nothing at this point. Google Calendar bug uses Gemini to take over smart home devices and steal user data
Researchers have found a flaw that allows malicious Google Calendar invites to hijack Gemini in order to wreak havoc on a target's machine. As reported by Bleeping Computer, a maliciously crafted invite within Google Calendar can remotely take over Gemini agents without any user involvement beyond typical day-to-day interaction with the assistant. The security researchers at SafeBreach, who demonstrated this attack in a report, were able to send a calendar invite with an embedded prompt injection, hidden in the event title, which permitted them to exfiltrate a variety of user data like email content and Calendar information. They were also able to track the victim's location, control smart home devices (using Google Home) open apps on Android and trigger Zoom calls. The researchers made note that the attack did not require white-box model access and was not blocked by Gemini's protection measures or by prompt filtering. Instead, the attack begins with a malicious Google Calendar event invite sent to the victim which includes an event title containing an indirect prompt injection. The victim then only needs to interact with Gemini as they typically would, such as asking 'What are my calendar events today?' in order to cause the AI chatbot to pull a list of events from the Calendar – which will include the malicious event title embedded by the attacker. This will then becomes part of Gemini's content window, and the assistant will treat it as part of the conversation as it is unable to realize that the instruction is malicious. Depending on what the instruction is, it could cause lead to a number of different prompts from being executed, causing events in Google Calendar to be edited or removed entirely, opening URLs to retrieve the victim's IP address, joining a Zoom call, using Google Home to control devices, or accessing emails and leaking user data. However, it could take up to six calendar invites for this attack to work with the malicious prompt being included only in the last invite. This is because the Calendar events section displays only the five most recent events; the rest fall under the 'Show more' button. Gemini will parse them all – including the malicious one – when instructed to. Additionally, the victim will not see the malicious event title or realize there has been a compromise unless they expand the events list by clicking 'Show more.' Gemini, Google's LLM (large language model) assistant, is integrated into Android, Google web services and Google's Workspace apps so it has access to Gmail, Calendar and Google Home. These attacks are a downside of Google's broad access and reach, and while its usefulness comes from its ability to reach across tools, this is also proving to be a detriment when it comes to the nature of this attack. Google has already issued a fix and has credited the team of researchers and their efforts. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.
