Motoring influencer suspected of faking disappearance, fleeing abroad
Muar police chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said investigations showed that the suspect's younger brother was also involved by providing false information for personal reasons.
He said Tengku Abd Aziz, 30, lodged a report at the Lenga Police Station claiming that his brother, also known as Ija, went missing while heading to Muar to repair his car.
'A search and rescue operation was launched after the case was classified as a missing person. However, further investigation raised doubts about the report, and police believe the disappearance was fabricated.
'Investigations also revealed that the suspect had submerged his wife's Perodua Axia in the river before fleeing to a neighbouring country. His brother later admitted to being complicit and pretending to help with the search,' he said in a statement today.
Raiz Mukhliz said statements from both individuals have been recorded and further investigation will proceed once police obtain an order to investigate (OTI) from the deputy public prosecutor.
The case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information and Section 109 for abetting a criminal offence.
Earlier, media reported that the man, a businessman and vehicle accessories shop owner, had gone missing after the Perodua Axia he was driving was believed to have plunged into the river. — BERNAMA

Actor files police report over defamatory social media post
KUALA LUMPUR: Police received a report from a local actor and singer over an alleged defamatory and provocative social media post made on the 'Threads' platform. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief, Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, confirmed this with the New Straits Times, adding that the post was claimed to have damaged the complainant's reputation. "The report was filed at 4.12pm on July 18 over a post by the owner of a social media account, which allegedly contained slanderous, provocative, and seditious elements. "The post was made publicly and is believed to have the potential to tarnish the complainant's image and reputation," he said. He added that the case is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which covers the misuse of network facilities. Those convicted under Section 500 could be liable for a maximum two years' jail, a fine, or both. Section 233 stipulates a maximum fine of RM500,000 or two years' jail or both if found guilty, as well as a further fine of RM5,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction. Usuf said that this case is not related to the ongoing investigation involving local artiste Shila Amzah. "This case has no connection to the Shila Amzah matter," he said, addressing speculation linking the two.

Jertih woman injured in attempted robbery during cake delivery
JERTIH: A 31-year-old woman sustained injuries on both hands after being attacked by a man pretending to be a customer in an attempted robbery. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon on Jalan Tembila in Kampung Gong Medang. According to Besut deputy police chief DSP Md Sani Md Saleh, the victim was delivering frozen cakes ordered by the suspect when the attack happened at around 2.30pm. 'The suspect approached the victim, who was still inside her car, and pulled out a knife in an attempt to steal her car keys,' he said. The victim resisted, leading to injuries on both her hands.
