‘She's very much an underserved character': Hayley Atwell eyes Captain Carter return in Marvel Cinematic Universe
The 43-year-old actress portrayed the M.I.6. agent/Captain Carter in the MCU from 2011's 'Captain America: The First Avenger' until 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' in 2022, and is enthused by the possibility of reprising her heroine in a future project.
When Den of Geek asked her if she would like to portray Captain Carter again in a future 'Avengers' movie, she said: "I would love that.
"There are so many things that she could do, there's so much more I feel I can bring to a character because I've developed as time's gone on.
"What's so great about having time behind you and having had a 20-year career so far is the development of skill, and I think there's so much more that Peggy can do. She's very much an underserved character."
Atwell added that Captain Carter's strong will and determination as a woman "speaks to a modern time", and would feel ready to tackle the character again thanks to her 'Mission: Impossible' training.
She explained: "When she says, 'I know my value and everyone else's opinion doesn't really matter,' it's because she hasn't been given the platform that she knows she deserves and that she's really capable of doing in the world.
"And so I just think there is just so much more that she can do, and I think she speaks to a modern time, so to be able to take her to that next level as Captain Carter would be phenomenal. Especially with all my 'Mission: Impossible' training. I am ready, let's go!"
Atwell will next be seen in 'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning', where she will be reprising her role as Grace opposite Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt.
The film will also see the return of Simon Pegg's Benji Dunn, Vanessa Kirby's Alanna Mitsopolis, Esai Morales' Gabriel and Ving Rhames' Luther Stickell.
'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning' picks up after 2023's 'Dead Reckoning', and follows Ethan Hunt (Cruise) as he and his team desperately try to stop an all-powerful artificial intelligence known as The Entity before it's too late for global society.
The movie is being billed as the climactic finale to the action franchise, and Atwell said she believed the 'Mission: Impossible' series would truly be finished after 'The Final Reckoning'.
When the actress was asked if there would be any more 'Mission: Impossible' movies after 'The Final Reckoning' during an interview with The Guardian newspaper, she said: "I mean, look, they called it 'The Final Reckoning'.
"On the other hand, 'Tom Cruise' and 'final' are oxymorons, so I wouldn't be surprised if he goes, 'Wait, maybe …'
"Although he has so many things that he is working on, so I can't see how another 'Mission' would fit into that."

She explained: 'Dad's house is a lot quieter, a lot more peaceful, a lot more organised. Whereas my mum's house is much more just do what you want. 'I love being in the middle. I love the two different houses, because if I fancy a bit more chaotic and busy I'll go to Mum's and if I fancy more relaxed I'll go to Dad's. 'This is going to come across really bad, isn't it? Like, it's talking about how Mum's a mess and Dad is stable, d'you know what I mean? Right now, Mum is completely different to how she was four years ago. If we're talking about the past, yes, my dad was more stable and Mum is naturally more crazy than my dad. 'If you saw her now, she's way different." Katie has spoken of her upset not to appear in her daughter's new reality show, The Princess Diaries, but Princess insisted there was "no decision" to keep her out of it. Elizabeth McGovern found the late Dame Maggie Smith's absence from the new Downton Abbey film "freed up the narrative". The 64-year-old actress had been worried that losing her co-star - who died in September 2024 aged 89 - would be a huge loss to Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale but she felt the screen legend's presence "permeated" the entire film and her essence was a part of every scene. Elizabeth - who plays Cora Crawley - told The Guardian newspaper: 'She's still very much in the atmosphere. I don't feel there's a big hole. In fact, in some ways, it sort of freed up the rest of the narrative to have a flow, because it's not stopping for her moments. "But everything she represents is there. She's in every room, in every interaction, so it's not like she's not there. It's a weird thing." Elizabeth admitted playing the American heiress could feel restrictive because of the treatment of women at the time. Asked if the role could be challenging, she said: 'At times, yes. I think as a contemporary woman, it is hard to feel the straitjacket of that period.' He told TV Line: "The fact that Dame Maggie herself has now passed away since that time, I do think, has given a real added poignancy to a story that we would have planned anyway. "The loss of the Dowager, it now feels far more significant that you see actors playing characters mourning the family matriarch. But I also see actors it feels more genuine and more meaningful." And another Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale star, Hugh Bonneville, previously admitted it was "poignant" shooting the movie without Maggie. Speaking on BBC's The One Show, he said: "It was quite poignant making the last film knowing that her character had passed away and then in real life, she passed away after we finished filming. "So, really, this final film will be a proper tribute to her and to the show, which is coming to an end after 15 years."

Someone at AFL house put all this together and said this is the man for us. He perfectly fits who we are. Besides, did no one else see him dressed up like an equestrian rider at the Paris Olympics? Oh, the laughs. Dogg says he is reformed and has gay friends, blah blah. Good for him. That is still a world away from being the right person for the AFL's biggest stage. Within days of confirming the worst choice of AFL entertainment since Meat Loaf, the AFL was confronted with its own hypocrisy.
