In fact, Gunn also revealed that "Peacemaker" Season 2 was moved up to August due to the release of "Superman." It would then be believed that fans will potentially see more DCU characters emerge in this season.

Peacemaker, aka Christopher Smit, is released from the hospital following his team-up with the Suicide Squad, only to fall back into working with Amanda Waller. He is tasked with fighting an alien force known as the "Butterflies."
Together with a team that includes Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji), Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), Economos (Steve Agee), and Vigilante (Freddie Stroma), Peacemaker gets to work hunting down this alien force.
It is revealed that Murn belongs to the Butterflies, but he has been attempting to stop Goff from taking over the world.
Peacemaker gets a brutal backstory regarding killing his brother while fighting, at the behest of his racist father, Auggie Smith (Robert Patrick). However, Peacemaker begins to realize he does not want to kill anymore.
Together, the team kills the Butterflies' cow to stop their ability to feed. Peacemaker also kills his father, only to be haunted by his image at the end of the season.
Now, the team will presumably deal with the "destruction" of the butterflies, though Goff is still alive. Also, it will be interesting to see how the events of "Superman" factor into this new season.

'The Bad Guys 2' (2025) One of the year's most fun animated comedies, 'The Bad Guys 2,' hit video-on-demand this week, which means you now have the chance to rent or buy it from the comfort of your own home. You should consider doing just that, too. A sequel to its hit 2022 predecessor, the film follows its central crew of 'Bad Guys' as they're forced out of retirement in order to join forces with a new, all-female squad of criminals to try to pull off one last, career-defining heist. Directed with the same slick sense of style and boasting the same endearing streak of tongue-in-cheek humor that made the first film so enjoyable, 'The Bad Guys 2' is the perfect way to spend a Friday or Saturday night. 'Elio' (2025) Speaking of endearing animated films that can entertain the whole family, Disney and Pixar's 'Elio' has also arrived on the VOD market this week. When it hit theaters in early June, the film's release was overshadowed a bit by its many delays and reports about its behind-the-scenes rewrites and creative overhauls. What was lost amidst all of that noise was the fact that the finished film was sweet, charming fun. Co-directed by 'Turning Red' filmmaker Domee Shi, 'Elio' follows an eleven-year-old misfit who finds himself transported to space when he is mistakenly identified as Earth's intergalactic ambassador. Featuring more than a few cute, cuddly aliens and enough sci-fi whimsy to make your heart flutter at least a few times, 'Elio' would be a worthy addition to any watchlists this weekend. 'Familiar Touch' (2025) Here is a film that probably was not on your radar this week. 'Familiar Touch,' writer-director Sarah Friedland's feature directorial debut, is one of the most acclaimed films of the year so far. Now available to rent or buy at home, the film follows an elderly woman (a spell-binding Kathleen Chalfant) whose transition to an assisted-living facility is challenged by her evolving relationships with herself and her new caregivers, as well as her own, declining cognitive abilities. Featuring a surprising supporting turn by 'Bob's Burgers' voice actor H. Jon Benjamin, 'Familiar Touch' is neither as emotionally manipulative as its premise suggests nor as oppressively bleak. It is a celebration of life, as well as an acknowledgement of the inevitable end of it. As far as this week's streaming offerings go, 'Familiar Touch' is unlike any other entry on this list, and if you give it a chance, you will likely find yourself moved by its grace and low-key, understated power. 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning' (2025) You could not find a movie that has less in common with 'Familiar Touch' than 'Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning.' The latter, which purports to be the last installment in the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise, is another action extravaganza overflowing with practical stunts that boggle the mind and set pieces that deserve to be seen on as big a screen as possible. Now, several months after it made its theatrical debut, the film has arrived on VOD. While 'The Final Reckoning' is nowhere near the best 'Mission: Impossible' movie, it is still a thrilling and often astounding blockbuster. If you put off watching it back in May, now is your chance to finally tick it off your standing watchlist. 'The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox' (Hulu) A limited series that ambitiously tries to dramatize one of the 21st century's oddest and most well-publicized true-crime stories, 'The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox' has finally arrived on Hulu. Created by K.J. Steinberg, the series centers on its eponymous protagonist ('Tell Me Lies' star Grace Van Patten) as her study abroad in Italy takes a horrifying turn when she is wrongfully imprisoned for the murder of her roommate. The aptly titled 'Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox' follows Van Patten's Amanda as she is forced to prove her innocence — both in the court and in the press. The first two episodes of the series premiered Wednesday on Hulu. Its remaining six episodes are set to debut weekly on Wednesdays moving forward. If you're a true crime fan, this is one series you won't want to miss. 'Hostage' (Netflix) Netflix's 'Hostage' has the potential to be a riveting, pulpy breakout hit this week. Created by 'Bridge of Spies' co-writer Matt Charman, the series follows British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton (Suranne Jones) and French President Vivienne Toussaint (Julie Delpy) as their international summit is challenged by the kidnapping of Abigail's husband and sudden threats of blackmail against Vivienne. A U.K.-set drama, the limited series runs just five episodes long, all of which premiere Thursday on Netflix. If edge-of-your-seat political thrillers are your thing, then you may want to check out 'Hostage' this weekend. It's a seemingly straightforward series that promises to quickly grab your attention and hold onto it right up to its inevitable conclusion. 'Peacemaker' Season 2 (HBO Max) Over three years after its first season premiered, 'Peacemaker' is back. Helmed, once again, by DC Studios co-CEO and 'Superman' filmmaker James Gunn, 'Peacemaker' Season 2 sees Gunn and co. complete their soft reboot of the now-dead DC Extended Universe. It is unclear how 'Peacemaker' Season 2 will deal with its past episodes' ties to the DCEU, but viewers do know that the new season takes place after 'Superman' and that they should expect to see plenty more violence, humor, romance and universe-hopping shenanigans. The season's first episode premieres Thursday on HBO Max, and its remaining seven installments will follow one at a time every Wednesday through Oct. 9. Coming off the success of both its first season and 'Superman,' 'Peacemaker' Season 2 ranks easily one of this week's biggest streaming premieres. 'Long Story Short' (Netflix) 'BoJack Horseman' creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg returns this week with his newest Netflix original, 'Long Story Short.' Animated in the same colorful, zany style as Bob-Waksberg's previous series, 'Long Story Short' follows the members of a middle-class Jewish family as they grow up, change and experience their own victories and failures over the course of 30 years. Featuring a star-studded voice cast headlined by Ben Feldman, Abbi Jacobson, Max Greenfield, Lisa Edelstein and Paul Reiser, the series promises to offer the same mix of absurdist humor and melancholic emotions that made 'BoJack Horseman' such a fan-favorite hit. The series' entire first season premieres Friday on Netflix, and 'Long Story Short' has already been renewed for a second season as well. That should give you the confidence to dive right in this weekend. Unlike a lot of other Netflix originals, you won't have to worry about it going away anytime soon. 'Peacemaker' Season 2: Steve Agee Teases 'Superman' Connection and 'Less Terrifying' Dance Number
Season 2 of Peacemaker, the first original TV series under the new DCU banner, is nearly here. It's been three-and-a-half years of waiting, and the new episode run kicks off on Thursday on HBO Max. I hope you're excited, because I sure am. The first season gave John Cena's helmet-wearing villain (previously seen in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad) the spotlight and, in turn, we watched Peacemaker -- also known as Chris Smith -- as he struggled with the bad decisions and abusive demons of his past. Oh, and he also fought an invasion of butterfly aliens. You know, as you do. The series humanized its titular bad-guy-turned-sorta-good-guy by giving him a ragtag crew to bond with. This team from Amanda Waller's government agency Argus included Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), Adrian Chase (Freddie Stroma) and Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks). And let's not forget Steve Agee, who plays John Economos. Agee first brought Economos to life in 2021's The Suicide Squad and has since returned to the character in Creature Commandos and Peacemaker. If the name John Economos doesn't ring a bell, you may know him better as "Dye Beard," the unfortunate nickname that stuck with him throughout season 1. According to the actor, that moniker is gone in season 2. Now, I'm not going to tell you what it's replaced with, but Agee revealed to me that Economos "isn't crazy about it." Ahead of the premiere of season 2, I spoke to him over Zoom to dig into Economos's new struggles, Peacemaker's connection to Superman and a pesky new opening credits dance number. Curtis Bonds Baker/HBO Max Your character has to work alongside some interesting new characters this season. Start with Langston Fleury, since he's the one who gives you that nickname. What does his character represent for John's story arc this season? He's a babysitter, really. I'm really the only one left working at Argus in season 2. They know that I'm still friends with Peacemaker, and so, I feel like a lot of people there don't trust Economos. So I'm kind of saddled with a babysitter. An insane babysitter. Rick Flag Sr. has a major presence in season 2. He's your boss at Argus, now. How is that impacting John? It's a paycheck, man. I can't go out and be a mercenary. I'm too weak, you know? I think I'm comfortable with computers. I'm still not sure Economos is comfortable in the surveillance aspect, which is largely what I'm doing a lot of in this season, especially when I'm half having to surveil a friend, but it also allows me the ability to kind of watch over this friend and make sure he's OK. And you know, Flag: this whole season is driven by the fact that Peacemaker killed his kid. Yeah, that's the whole thing driving this season. Had that not happened? I think you've talked about this in previous interviews, that John Economos is like a ball of anxiety. Is there any fear in John of not having a clear sense of purpose? There's a lot of that there. Also, in season 1, we were all kind of at odds with each other, until the end, where we all came together and became the 11th Street Kids and formed these bonds. That fight at the end was our Vietnam, you know? This is like our Band of Brothers. These are now my only friends. And so Economos has loyalty to these people, which I think is also another reason for him to stay and do what he's doing. Season 1 revealed the sad reason why Economos dyes his beard. Given the storyline's emotional grounding, can we expect another moment like that this season? Well, I feel like in season 1, we needed a backstory for Economos. We didn't know a lot about him, and that monologue at the end about why I dye my beard is heartbreaking. We also needed to kind of get into Peacemaker's backstory and understand why he is such a piece of shit. James really does that well. He did it in Creature Commandos with the Weasel. You watch The Suicide Squad movie, and you're like, "This guy's a fucking monster. He killed a bunch of kids." And then you watch the animated series and you're like, Oh my god, this is so goddamn tragic. So we know more about Peacemaker going into season 2. We know more about Economos a little bit, or at least his weird brain. And I think there are other characters that we need to kind of explore deeper this season, you know, like Harcourt and still Cena, too. Jessica Miglio/HBO Max Since you now have previous experience with the dance choreography for the season 1 dance number, how was it doing this new opening credit sequence? Easier? More stressful? Terrifying? It was less terrifying. I was more, I don't want to say bummed out, but it's just that I don't like dancing. It's very difficult for me. And I knew this was a much bigger number because we had more cast members. It was going to be a two-day shoot instead of one day. So I honestly wasn't looking forward to shooting the dance number, because I knew it was going to be very difficult for me, as well as probably a quarter of the other cast members. But, on the other hand, it's one of the highlights of the show. I knew once we finished, it was going to be this amazing thing under my belt to brag about and show people. So, what's the big deal about Peacemaker's pocket dimension? Why is this such a big issue for Argus? I mean, it's because it's a doorway to several worlds that we don't know. It's in Superman; it's becoming clear that there are people who have an issue with meta-humans and stuff like that. This is literally a doorway to access more meta-humans, possibly. So they just really don't want to explore this, and they want to keep it kind of shut down.
