TAWAU: This year's National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day (HPPNK) celebration is especially significant as it will be held in Sabah for the first time in 30 years – the last time being in 1995. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM), Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, said the State has been chosen as the host of the event, which will take place at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) in Kota Kinabalu from Aug 1 to 3, and is expected to be officiated by the Prime Minister.
Advertisement 'This year marks the 50th anniversary of HPPNK with the theme 'Kudrat Kami Menjamin Pertiwi' (Our Strength Secures the Nation),' he said during a press conference after launching the Road To HPPNK @ Tawau event at Dataran Tawau Municipal Council (MPT), last Saturday. He said the two-day pre-event in Tawau is expected to attract some 20,000 visitors, generate an estimated RM100,000 in transactions, and feature seven exhibition booths, 12 Agro Madani sales stalls and 40 entrepreneur booths. Arthur said that the event serves as a platform to bring the government closer to Sabah's agro community – especially farmers, breeders, and fishermen who are crucial to ensuring national food security. Tawau was chosen as the first stop for the roadshow due to its strong potential in agriculture, fisheries and livestock sectors, as well as its strategic location, which allows easy access for visitors from Lahad Datu, Semporna and Kunak. In conjunction with the launch, Arthur presented eight mock cheques, including RM921,600 for the 2025 Fishermen's Cost of Living Allowance (ESHN) in Tawau; RM300,000 for B40 Fishermen Housing Aid in Tawau; RM50,000 for the Community Fishermen Facilities Development Grant in Kampung Tanjung Batu Laut, Tawau; RM34,000 for Fishing Equipment Assistance (Touch Point) in Tawau; and allocations under the Small and Medium Machinery Ownership Programme for PPK Kalabakan (RM26,882.80), PPK Tawau (RM9,289.70), PPK Kunak (RM39,294.80), and PPK Lahad Datu (RM9,954). Earlier, Arthur also flagged off the Road To HPPNK 2025 Motor Convoy, which will travel across several districts in Sabah including Sandakan, Nabawan, Keningau, Papar, and Kota Kinabalu before culminating at SICC. The convoy features 30 participants, including officers, staff from LKIM Sabah, youth members of Kubena (Fishermen Youth Group), and members of fishermen associations across the State. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Dismissive attitude towards Borneo Bloc led to political shift: Hajiji
Published on: Monday, July 28, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 28, 2025 By: Jonathan Nicholas Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor ( pic ) said the lack of respect shown towards the Borneo Bloc by the previous federal leadership prompted him to reconsider his political alignment. He recalled a meeting in Kuala Lumpur with Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan where a senior federal leader dismissed the idea of a united Sabah and Sarawak voice. According to Hajiji, the leader's comment, declaring himself as 'the Master,' signalled a clear disregard for the Borneo Bloc's aspirations and Sabah's role in shaping its future. Speaking during the Gagasan Rakyat AGM on Sunday, Hajiji, who is also Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Chairman and Gagasan Rakyat President, said the incident led to deep reflection and eventually convinced him that change was needed for the sake of Sabah. He said the Unity Government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had taken Sabah's longstanding concerns seriously, particularly those related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). Hajiji stressed that GRS backs the current government because it respects Sabah's dignity and has begun to deliver on long-overdue commitments such as the devolution of powers. He confirmed he would join Anwar during his visit to Sabah today, with cross-border cooperation and regional concerns in the Sulawesi Sea expected to be among the key matters discussed. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? MOF Warns of RM100 SARA Aid Scam Links
The Finance Ministry (MOF) has clarified that recipients of the one-off RM100 SARA aid do not need to register, amid growing concerns over scam links and misinformation spreading online. Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said the aid will be automatically credited to all eligible MyKad holders aged 18 and above starting Aug 31, and any claims that users must sign up through online portals are false and potentially dangerous. 'We've received numerous inquiries and complaints about fake websites and links related to RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid registration. 'Let me be clear, these are scams. Do not click on or share them,' Lim emphasised, while stressing that no application is needed as the aid will be directly credited to recipients' MyKad. On July 23, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that a one-off RM100 SARA cash aid that will be credited via MyKad to all Malaysians aged 18 and above. This part of broader Madani government initiatives, which also include toll hike postponements and a RON95 fuel price cut to RM1.99 per litre later this year. Lim added that in the event eligible individuals do not receive the payment by Aug 31, the government will provide follow-up information and guidance. Meanwhile, Lim also revealed that the government is reviewing proposals to include wet goods such as chicken, fish and meat under the SARA programme. 'The consideration is part of ongoing efforts to align the programme with real consumer needs, especially among lower-income households. 'We're open to feedback. Any expansion will be thoroughly studied in consultation with relevant stakeholders, including the recipients themselves,' she said. As of May 1, the SARA programme covers 14 categories of essential goods, including food, medicine, hygiene products, school supplies and household cleaning items, amounting to over 90,000 eligible products nationwide. The MOF urges Malaysians to rely only on official government channels for accurate updates and to report suspicious messages or websites related to the aid. Related

Man spends whopping RM50,000 just to qualify for TRX Premium Lounge
WHAT does it take for a person to have access to exclusive luxury? For one guy, it is RM50,000 worth of purchases just to be qualified for a membership in the TRX, The Premium Lounge. Now, one would imagine the crazy load of shopping a person has to do to rack up a RM50,000 bill, and rightly so. RM50,000 is enough to purchase an entry level car by cash or comfortably pay the deposit for a mid-priced home in the KL city centre. Ini baru kaya yang sebenar. Sanggup spend RM50K semata nak masuk dalam TRX The Premium Lounge. Gilaaa 😭 — kamaghul deghaman (@kamaghul) July 26, 2025 The guy in the video had to do a whopping amount of shopping, and even then, it was not enough. According to him in the video, he finally reached the amount by making huge purchases at Chanel. It sure brings out the Crazy Rich Asian vibes. But it appears our fellow netizens aren't impressed by all that burned money. 'I'd rather use the 50k to make my house better looking than the TRX Premium lounge,' said @AndyTalisman, and he has a point. 'So, the TRX is practising the caste system in India?' @arfhartoe wondered. But netizen @neesely believed the money was not wasted since he was actually turning it into content. However, what is the TRX Premium Lounge? Apparently there are three tiers to their Loyalty Programme, the Enthusiast, Insider and Inspirer. For example, a person qualifies for the Insider after a minimum spending of RM10,000 in three receipts on the same day. The guy in the video was attempting the Inspirer tier at RM50,000 in five receipts within 14 days, which allows him access to the lounge. According to Tatler Asia, the lounge features contemporary interiors layered with warm textures, curated floral arrangements, and ambient lighting designed to evoke calm sophistication. For Inspirer and Visionary members, the lounge provides an extensive suite of personalised privileges: all-day refreshments featuring artisanal selections, dedicated guest experience support, premium amenities including private facilities and a children's corner, plus complimentary gift wrapping services. All that for RM50,000? Is it worth it or could we just head over to the nearest Thai massage parlour? —July 27, 2025 Main image: @kamaghul (X)
