After injury cut his season short in 2024, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is fully healthy and looking to return to form. While he is not lacking any confidence in himself or his team, one analyst pumped the brakes following some stunning remarks.
Before getting hurt, Prescott wasn't far removed from being in the MVP discussion. Upon his return, he is tasked with getting the iconic franchise back on track. The Cowboys made moves to make things slightly easier for him, most notably trading for wide receiver George Pickens.
Even though he didn't suit up in the game, Prescott still managed to go viral during the Cowboys' preseason opener over the weekend. Before the action got underway, the star QB was seen speaking with LA Rams owner Stan Kroenke. During the conversation, he can be heard saying the two teams will do battle again in this year's NFC Championship game.

Dallas was unable to take care of business against the Rams, suffering a 31-21 defeat.

As expected, Prescott's remarks caused quite a stir within the football world. The Cowboys' shortcomings in the postseason are very noteworthy, having not won a Super Bowl since 1995. This was also the last time they reached the conference championship, where Prescott envisions Dallas reaching this season.
During Monday's installment of First Things First on FS1, Chris Broussard weighed in on what Prescott had to say to Kroenke over the weekend. He cited the team's off-field disarray at the moment while also dubbing them a non-contender heading into the 2025 campaign.
"It's been 30 years Dak. You don't even have your best player signed up. The team is falling apart," Broussard said. "They're not to be taken seriously, they're just not. Okay, sure Dak."

Prescott is just being confident in his team, but his comments should be viewed as more of a pipe dream than reality. As Broussard mentioned, the team has off-field drama weighing on them as Micah Parsons remains in a standoff in the front office. On top of that, they have multiple teams they'll need to jump ahead of if they want to achieve this goal.
With the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders reaching the conference championship last year, Dallas is going to have an uphill climb just getting out of their division. Nonetheless, Prescott feels the Cowboys have more than enough talent to be a threat in the NFC.

Brian Schottenheimer reveals thyroid cancer scare when he was 28

Jerry Jones revealed in the new Netflix documentary, America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys, that he overcame stage 4 melanoma more than a decade ago. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Wednesday that he is 'glad' Jerry shared his diagnosis and treatment to give people 'hope.' 'It gives people the strength to say 'Hey, you can beat this,'' Schottenheimer said, via video from the team. Schottenheimer, 51, then for the first time shared his own cancer diagnosis at age 28. He showed the scar where doctors removed 17 lymph nodes to rid him of thyroid cancer. 'I knew I had lump in my throat. I knew there was something bothering me, but I didn't think it was anything,' said Schottenheimer, who now is cancer-free. Schottenheimer had just finished a training camp practice more than two decades ago when he received a message to call his doctor. He knew it was bad news and, after hearing it from the doctor, went to tell his father, Marty, who immediately called former Washington owner Dan Synder. Snyder previously had beaten thyroid cancer. 'I broke down. [Marty Schottneheimer] said, 'We'll figure this out and get the best help we can get,'' Schottenheimer said. 'He picked up the phone and called Dan Snyder, a guy that two years before had fired him. . . . I'll never forget: He told me when Dan picked up the phone, and my dad said to him, 'Hey, Dan, I have a problem; Brian has cancer.' Dan said, 'Marty, give me 5 minutes, and I'll call you back,' and I think it was within 24 to 36 hours that I was on the operating table [at the Mayo Clinic] in Rochester, Minnesota. Again, it just shows you when you're dealing with things like that, everything competitively stops.' Schottenheimer said it was 'traumatic' to hear the c-word and to contemplate the unknown. 'Mine was nothing as serious as [Jones' cancer diagnosis],' Schottenheimer said. 'Thyroid cancer is the slowest growing cancer in the world. I was actually more concerned about when I had to have the surgery that I could lose my ability to speak, and I was a coach. They're [operating] around your vocal cords. [Former Bengals and Bucs] Sam Wyche actually had something like that happen to him. . . . It kind of reminds you of what truly matters.' Schottenheimer said that without his position in the NFL and for Synder, his story could have turned out differently.

New York Giants are NFL's third-most valuable franchise

The New York Giants have a long and storied history that only a few NFL franchises can claim. The Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, and Green Bay Packers are the only three teams that have been active for longer than the Giants, but a team's longevity in the league doesn't have much bearing on what that organization is worth today. For example, the Dallas Cowboys joined the league in 1960, nearly 40 years after the Giants, yet they are the most valuable franchise in 2025. Sportico released its annual NFL valuations on Wednesday, and the Cowboys top the list. The Giants, though, finally broke the $10 billion mark and have become the third-most valuable team in the NFL. The Giants' valuation is up 34 percent from 2024. Below the team valuations listed on Sportico's site is an explanation of how they determined the values, what assets they counted, etc. Part of the explanation is as follows: 2025 Valuation: The sum of the enterprise value of an NFL franchise combined with the value of team-related businesses and real estate holdings. Team Value: NFL franchise valuation, derived from metrics by which football-team transactions occur, including aggregating local and national revenues and factoring in a team-specific multiplier. This represents the market value of the team itself, excluding related businesses held by its owners. It includes the value of each franchise's 3.13% interest in the league's properties, including NFL Films, NFL RedZone, 32 Equity (the private equity investment vehicle established by the NFL in 2013) and its digital platforms, which are acquired/dispossessed in tandem with the sale of a team. There is an additional category for Team-Related Businesses and Real Estate Holdings, which is broken down in a way that attempts to eliminate counting any money coming to the team that's not directly related to football operations. Of the top five teams with the highest valuation, only the Cowboys and Giants have missed the Super Bowl for the last 10 years, which proves that just because a franchise is worth more money, it doesn't mean they field a better football team. This year, the Giants have a chance to prove that they've located the train tracks and are getting back on board. Being one of the top-valued teams in the league, they need to start showing it on the field. They don't have to make the playoffs in 2025, although that is always the goal. If they can put together a winning season and pass the eye test, it will go a long way toward the team being worth what it's valued at. Cleveland Browns Training Camp Recap: Day 13 – No reps for Shedeur Sanders vs. Eagles

Day 13 of Cleveland Browns training camp took place Wednesday. Here is our recap of the session. Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report – Day 13 (8/13/25) 1. Practice With the Champs: It's a great opportunity for the Cleveland Browns to get a couple of joint practices in with the Philadelphia Eagles, the defending Super Bowl Champions. It's also great from a mental standpoint, because the coaches can point to the fact of how the Eagles really fell into a rut two years ago with their big losing streak, but they revamped and showed everyone what they were really capable of a year ago. As a reminder, during these joint practices, the media cannot film during team drills, so any highlights during those sessions would have to be provided by the teams themselves (and they are usually close-up shots, if they are provided). 2. Man of the People: A man of the people indeed — here is QB Joe Flacco using the restroom before practice started, a practice in which head coach Kevin Stefanski stated that the veteran quarterback would continue to take first-team reps in. Meanwhile, QB Kenny Pickett would remain limited to 7-on-7 drills against his former team, while QB Dillon Gabriel was expected to see some 11-on-11 work. 3. Re-United: The Browns shaved a tiny bit of salary cap this offseason by releasing veteran long snapper Charley Hughlett, who had been with the team since 2014. I'm sure it was fun for him to re-unite with his former teammates this week, as he is now a member of the Eagles. In a similar manner, the Browns surprisingly released defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo this offseason. Likewise, he signed on with the Eagles, so Browns players were catching up with him before practice. 4. Sanders Exits Early: The biggest headline from the joint practices is no doubt the fact that QB Shedeur Sanders was limited and held out the remainder of practice after he suffered an oblique injury. I'm sure we'll have more updates as time goes on, but at this point, we don't know the severity of it. Like, is it another, 'his shoulder was sore so we held him out a day' type of deal, or did he tweak it, something that isn't necessarily super limiting, but requires a few weeks of rest to truly let it heal? Eagles QB Jalen Hurts had some words with Sanders after practice: 5. One-on-One Action: During 1-on-1 drills, CB Myles Harden's stock takes another boost, as he logged an interception. 6. Tame Action All Around: There wasn't a ton of team reps for all the quarterbacks, but with Sanders out, Tyler Huntley got some work in. Joe Flacco completed a few passes to WR Jerry Jeudy later in practice. One highlight was WR Gage Larvadain snagging a touchdown pass from QB Dillon Gabriel, who might be in line to start against the Eagles on Saturday. 7. Punt Return Reps: The punt return reps against Philly included WR DeAndre Carter, WR Diontae Johnson, and WR Gage Larvadain. 8. Brownies: Former Browns WR Kevin Johnson was at practice. … CB Greg Newsome remained limited as he tries to battle back from a shoulder injury. … Head coach Kevin Stefanski noted that he was extremely disappointed with DE Myles Garrett's speeding ticket. … 9. Next Up: The Browns will play have another joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday (time to be determined).
