'Emily in Paris' Season 5 takes a trip to Venice and gets a release date. See the 1st photos.
Emily in… Italy, still? On Wednesday, Netflix unveiled the premiere date of Emily in Paris Season 5, along with a series of first-look photos.
The upcoming season will continue to follow the titular American marketing executive, played by Lily Collins, as she embraces a change of scene: life in Venice, Italy.
'This season is a tale of two cities. Rome and Paris,' creator Darren Star told Netflix's Tudum. 'Straddling both, Emily takes love and life to the next level.'
Emily is now seemingly living the Italian dream: She's landed the career opportunity of a lifetime and is finally in an uncomplicated relationship with a charming Italian guy. The official Season 5 description, however, hints at trouble ahead:
'Now the head of Agence Grateau Rome, Emily faces professional and romantic challenges as she adapts to life in a new city. But just as everything falls into place, a work idea backfires, and the fallout cascades into heartbreak and career setbacks. Seeking stability, Emily leans into her French lifestyle, until a big secret threatens one of her closest relationships. Tackling conflict with honesty, Emily emerges with deeper connections, renewed clarity, and a readiness to embrace new possibilities.'
Below, we're breaking down everything there is to know about Season 5 of Emily in Paris.
When does Season 5 come out?
All 10 episodes of Emily in Paris will be available to stream on Netflix on Dec. 18, 2025.
Who will be part of the Season 5 cast?
Among the confirmed and returning cast members are: Lily Collins (Emily Cooper), Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie Grateau), Ashley Park (Mindy Chen), Lucas Bravo (Gabriel), Samuel Arnold (Julien), Bruno Gouery (Luc), William Abadie (Antoine Lambert), Lucien Laviscount (Alfie), Eugenio Franceschini (Marcello), Thalia Besson (Genevieve), Paul Forman (Nico) and Arnaud Binard (Laurent G).
Deadline announced two new additions to the Season 5 roster in July: Bryan Greenberg (Suits LA, Junction) will play Jake, an American expat living in Paris, and Michèle Laroque (Brilliantissime) will play Yvette, one of Sylvie's oldest friends.
In May, Deadline also confirmed that Oscar-nominated actress Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting, Will & Grace) joined the cast. Driver will portray Princess Jane, a friend of Sylvie's who marries into royalty.
Camille Razat, however, is one cast member who will not be returning for Season 5. Razat, who's starred as Gabriel's on-again, off-again girlfriend since the first season, confirmed the news in an Instagram post from April 2025.
'After an incredible journey, I've made the decision to step away from Emily in Paris,' she wrote. 'This character has meant a lot to me, and I feel that her storyline has naturally come to an end. It felt like the right moment to explore new horizons.'
Where did we leave off, anyway?
Where do we begin?! When Gabriel finds out that Camille is pregnant — which she lies about, by the way — he begins to prioritize her and their unborn baby over Emily, which strains their relationship. At one point, Gabriel leaves Emily stranded at the top of a mountain to attend to Camille, prompting Emily's realization that she'll never be the priority in their relationship. Emily breaks up with Gabriel as a result.
Eager to get away, Emily agrees to oversee the opening of a new Agence Grateau office in Rome. There she sparks a romance with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), an heir to a prominent Italian cashmere company.
Season 4 ends with Emily back in Rome in a more permanent capacity, now as the lead of the new Agence Grateau location. Her burgeoning relationship with Marcello also influences her decision to take the job. Gabriel, meanwhile, learns of Camille's "nonpregnancy."
While the series resumes in Italy, Star is assuring fans that Emily will be returning to France.
'She didn't change her Instagram handle to 'Emily in Rome.' She is working in Rome sometimes. Sylvie's company has an office in Rome. Emily's getting that on its feet,' Star previously told Deadline. 'I don't necessarily think that it means a permanent — in my mind, it's definitely not a permanent — move to Rome. We're not leaving Paris.'
Do we know what the storylines are about?
While we don't know a ton of details, we do know that Emily will continue to explore things with Marcello, which Collins revealed she's on board with.
'Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance,' she told Tudum. 'We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.'
Star told Tudum that the strength of Emily and Marcello's connection will factor into Season 5.
'I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection. A lot of that's going to continue to play out next season,' he said.
What has the cast said?
In an October 2024 interview with IndieWire, Bravo hinted at the possibility of not returning to Emily in Paris.
'The 'sexy chef' was very much part of me in Season 1 and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take. I've never been so far away from him,' he said.
Bravo initially saw 'a lot of me in [Gabriel]' in Season 1, but was disappointed that they 'made him kind of unaware of his surroundings' and that he was 'always victimizing' and 'being completely lost in translation.'
'It kind of became not fun for me to shoot or to see a character I love so much and brought me so much, being slowly turned into guacamole. I really grew apart from him,' he added.
The Freedom star seemed to have changed his tune by April 2025. In an interview with Parade, Bravo revealed plans to begin filming the fifth season of Emily in Paris in May and that 'it's the best season so far.'
'I had lunch with Darren a few days back, and he told me a bit without telling me too much. I think fans are going to lose it. It's the craziest one so far,' he told the outlet.

NYT ‘Connections' Hints For Friday, August 22: Today's Clues And Answers
Each day's game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. Before we get to today's Connections hints and answers, here are Thursday's: Hey there, Connectors! We're knocking on the door of the weekend, but before we get there, let's add another win to your Conenctions streak. I wasn't feeling great this past weekend, so I didn't do too much. It wasn't entirely a wasted couple of days though, as I finally got around to finishing up the detective drama series Dept. Q on Netflix. I enjoyed it for the most part. I thought it was well-constructed and absorbing. But I don't really think it would have worked without an actor of Matthew Goode's caliber in the lead role. His character, Carl Morck, is an absolutely miserable git, a truly tough nut to crack and a toxic presence to many of those around him (arguably with good reason, in fairness). Don't get me wrong, the character is well-crafted and written, but if it hadn't been for Goode's talent and innate charm, the whole show could have crumbled apart around Morck. That said, it's not just Morck; many of the main characters are quite sullen. Several bear deep wounds and are dealing with past and/or present trauma, even if they are quick with a joke. So it's perhaps little wonder that the production team relocated the setting from Denmark (in the source novels) to Scotland. I love my homeland dearly, but it often seems that for every truly delightful, warm person in the country, there's someone with a personality just like one of Dept. Q's main characters. (Also, Rose and Akram are my favorites, and I am very glad there's a second season on the way.) You can play on the NYT's website or Games app. You're presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part. There's only one solution for each puzzle, and you'll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them. Each group is color coded. 12 movies premiering at the Venice Film Festival to get excited about
The Venice Film Festival offers an embarrassment of auteur riches this year. The 82nd edition, which kicks off on Wednesday, has films from Guillermo del Toro, Kathryn Bigelow, Park Chan-wook, Yorgos Lanthimos, Sofia Coppola, Jim Jarmusch, Gus Van Sant and Luca Guadagnino, to name a few. Even Charlie Kaufman has a short film ('How to Shoot a Ghost'). Depending on how they play, some in the lineup will surely be part of the Oscar conversation in the new year, as several filmmakers this year can attest from experience. In 2017, del Toro launched 'The Shape of Water' at Venice, where its Golden Lion win was the first of many that awards season, culminating with a best picture and best director prize at the Academy Awards. In 2023, Lanthimos also had a charmed Venice debut for 'Poor Things,' another Golden Lion winner that would get Emma Stone a best actress Oscar. Here's a preview of 12 films to get excited about this year. 'Bugonia' (Aug. 28, in competition) It's always an event when Lanthimos teams up with Stone. Described as a science-fiction black comedy and a remake of a South Korean film, 'Bugonia' stars Jesse Plemons as a conspiracy-obsessed man who (along with Aidan Delbis) kidnaps Stone's character, the CEO of a pharmaceutical group, because they believe she's an alien. Focus Features plans a late October theatrical release. 'Jay Kelly' (Aug. 28, in competition) Noah Baumbach takes on his own industry, and the idea that coming-of-age stories are only for the young, in 'Jay Kelly,' casting George Clooney as a movie star on an introspective (and comedic) journey through Europe with his manager Ron (Adam Sandler). Baumbach cowrote the script with Emily Mortimer, who is part of the large ensemble cast including Laura Dern, Billy Crudup and Greta Gerwig. In theaters in November and on Netflix in December. 'Megadoc' (Aug. 28, out of competition) Another Coppola-related documentary, but this one, directed by Mike Figgis, is about the making of Francis Ford Coppola's 'Megalopolis,' his decades-in-the-making, self-financed epic. The film takes viewers behind the scenes of the creative process, from the rehearsal space to the set where you can be sure that Shia LaBeouf is going to speak his mind. In theaters this fall. 'After the Hunt' (Aug. 29, out of competition) Julia Roberts plays a beloved and glamorous college professor whose mentee ( Ayo Edebiri ) accuses her close friend and colleague (Andrew Garfield) of 'crossing the line' in this psychosexual drama from Luca Guadagnino. The stacked cast also includes Guadagnino regulars Chloë Sevigny and Michael Stuhlbarg. Amazon MGM Studios will release it in theaters in October. 'No Other Choice' (Aug. 29, in competition) Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook's highly anticipated follow-up to 'Decision to Leave' has been a long time coming. He first mentioned work on an adaptation of Donald Westlake's novel 'The Ax' in 2009. The story is about a middle-aged manager at a paper company who grows increasingly, and violently, desperate after being laid off. Lee Byung-hun and Son Yejin star. Neon has not set a release date. 'Frankenstein' (Aug. 30, in competition) Visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro's decades-long dream of adapting Mary Shelley's classic novel, which he has said is his absolute favorite book, has come true. A master of the gothic milieu, his 'Frankenstein' stars Oscar Isaac as Dr. Viktor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as the monster. It's one of the most anticipated films of the year. Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz and Charles Dance also star. 'Frankenstein' is in theaters in October and streaming on Netflix in November. 'Father Mother Sister Brother' (Aug. 31, in competition) Jim Jarmusch directs Tom Waits, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Charlotte Rampling, Cate Blanchett and Vicky Krieps in a triptych anthology film about relationships between adult children. Jarmusch said in a statement that it's an 'anti-action film, its subtle and quiet style carefully constructed to allow small details to accumulate.' The filmmaker, a Cannes darling, was last on the Lido out of competition with 'Coffee and Cigarettes' over 20 years ago. MUBI will release the film in theaters this fall. 'The Smashing Machine' (Sept. 1, in competition) Is Dwayne Johnson destined for an Oscar nomination? His transformation into MMA and UFC fighter Mark Kerr, a champion and addict, might just be the ticket, with filmmaker Benny Safdie (who codirected 'Uncut Gems') at the helm and Emily Blunt playing his wife. A24 will release it in theaters in October. 'The Testament of Ann Lee' (Sept. 1, in competition) Amanda Seyfried plays the founding leader of the Shakers, the 18th century religious sect, in a musical drama from filmmaker Mona Fastvold, who cowrote 'The Testament of Ann Lee' with her partner Brady Corbert. Like 'The Brutalist,' which Fastvold shared writing duties on, it was also shot on 70 mm film, but runs a slimmer 130 minutes. The cast includes Thomasin McKenzie, Lewis Pullman, Stacy Martin, Tim Blake Nelson and Christopher Abbott. 'A House of Dynamite' (Sept. 2, in competition) Not too much is known about Kathryn Bigelow's political thriller, set inside the White House around an impending missile strike on the U.S. and starring Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson. It's the Oscar winner's first film since 'Detroit' came out in 2017, and written by former NBC News president Noah Oppenheim, whose script for 'Jackie' won the best screenplay prize at Venice in 2016. Netflix plans an October release for both streaming and theatrical. 'Marc by Sofia' (Sept. 2, out of competition) Sofia Coppola follows in her late mother's footsteps by directing a documentary (her first), about fashion designer Marc Jacobs. Their friendship goes back to the early 1990s in New York. It's a relationship that goes beyond muse territory and has spawned numerous collaborations. She even wore one of his dresses when she won her first Oscar. For fashion and film fans, it's a must-see. A24 has not set a release date. 'The Voice of Hind Rajab'(Sept. 3, in competition) Set entirely inside the Red Crescent Society call center, Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania tells the story of the efforts to rescue the young girl Hind Rajab from her family's shot-out car in Gaza City last January, using the real audio of her voice. Festival head Alberto Barbera predicted that it 'will be one of the films that will get the most intense response from everybody … not only political reasons but for emotional, human reasons.'
