Govt teachers extend Rs 50k financial aid to meritorious student

Hans India4 days ago
Nandyal: As part of the P4 (People's Participation for Progress) initiative, government teacher mentors have come forward to support a deserving student from an underprivileged family by extending financial assistance of Rs 50,000 towards his hostel fee. The cheque was formally handed over by District Collector G Raja Kumari at the Collectorate, in the presence of the student and his parents on Tuesday.
As per the statement of the district Collector the beneficiary, M Rohan Sai, hails from a poor goldsmith family residing in Kranti Nagar, Bommala Satram, Nandyal town. His father, Marella Ramesh Naidu, has been rendered jobless due to paralysis, while his mother works as a sweeper at a local temple to sustain the family.
Despite severe financial hardship, Rohan excelled in academics, securing 94% in his Polytechnic Diploma and successfully clearing the 2025 EAMCET.
He was admitted on a merit basis into the second year of B.Tech at MVR Engineering College, Vizianagaram. However, an annual hostel fee of Rs 50,000 remained a significant burden on the family.
Moved by the student's dedication and academic performance, government teachers K Sambasivudu and K Shivakumari, serving as Headmaster at MPPS Nereducherla and Teacher at MPPS Madduru, respectively, voluntarily stepped forward as mentors to adopt the student. They provided the required financial support and assured continued assistance for his hostel fees throughout his B.Tech course.
Appreciating their noble gesture, G Raja Kumari stated that such voluntary support is inspirational and urged financially capable individuals in society to come forward to adopt students from economically weaker backgrounds.
She stated that collective efforts through such initiatives can significantly uplift marginalised communities.
The event was attended by the donor teachers, the student's family, and other officials.

Season no bar: This Vijayapura farmer grows Thailand mangoes all year long

Pic:Naveen Manganavar and his wife Danamma pose with a Thailand mango tree at their farm Vijayapura: Naveen Manganavar, alias Nooranda, 45, a farmer from Shivanagi village in Vijayapura taluk and district, has proven that mangoes are not just for summer, cultivating them year-round. Using water from the UKP irrigation project for his land in Kaggod village, he planted 3,000 saplings imported from Thailand on seven acres three years ago. Now, he is earning over Rs 10,000 a day from mango sales, and his farm has become a hotspot for farming enthusiasts in the region. Manganavar told TOI that he was a part-time employee with an insurance company and went to Thailand in 2011. "Since then, the idea was planted firmly in my mind. When I discussed it with my father and three brothers, they said it is risky to venture into it. However, my research and development work on the same continued along with my other routines. Since our land has some stones, we were growing onions and other crops, but it was not profitable. Finally, my family members allowed me to go forward with Thailand mangoes in 2021, and we ordered 5,000 saplings. In the course of three years, 2,000 saplings failed, and 3,000 started giving fruits from 2024," he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like She Mixed Pink Salt With This - Now She Can't Stop Losing Weight Break The Weight Learn More Undo He further added, "By the time we decided to plant mango saplings, our elected representative, MB Patil, was successful in bringing Krishna River water through lift irrigation projects. Thanks to the canal, our borewell was recharged with plenty of water. Now, we are getting a mango yield of 15-20 dozen per day, and our minimum revenue is Rs 10,000 per day. As many as 7-8 family members work on the farm, and this number increases on weekends. We have tied up with a private courier to send mango boxes as per the demand. As of now, we have a base of retail customers from Bengaluru, Kalaburagi, and Vijayapura," he stated. He is using Jeevamruta and vermicompost to make the fruits free from chemicals. "As they ripen on the tree itself, we need not adopt a ripening procedure using chemicals," he affirmed. Nitish Biradar, another farmer from Shivanagi, commented that seeing this experiment, many are planning to plant Thailand mangoes in the coming years. "When we took these fruits to minister MB Patil, he was happy to know that his irrigation project turned fruitful," he added. Mahantesh Biradar, a horticulture enthusiast, remarked that Thailand mangoes have a different but unique fragrance, and now Vijayapura people are enjoying them throughout the year. Tragedy in Jaitpur: Kin mourn losses, express safety concerns

New Delhi: The wall collapse in southeast Delhi's Jaitpur was described by eyewitnesses as sounding like a bomb blast. According to the victims' families, the tragedy might have been averted if the rain hadn't confined the people indoors instead of going out to collect scrap as they usually did. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now At Safdarjung Hospital, Praveena was consoled by relatives after losing four family members: her daughter Hasina, husband Ravi Bul, sister-in-law Rubina and Rubina's daughter Ruksana. Her brother-in-law Hasibul, who sustained serious back injuries, is fighting for his life. "Three years ago, I came to Delhi from West Bengal seeking a better life. Now I have no family left," Praveena wailed. Her shack collapsed in the rain. She herself escaped because she was outside the house cooking. Chand-ul, 35, said he was sleeping when he heard a loud noise resembling a bomb blast and was injured in the incident. "I was asleep when it happened and got hurt," he said. Shukural Ali, 34, another jhuggi resident, recalled that 10-year-old Moina was playing outside when the wall collapsed and crashed into her jhuggi, where her father, Muttus, was sleeping. "She lived with her father — now he's gone. Her mother had left the family. Who will take care of the little girl now?" he wondered. When the wall gave way, Moina screamed for help, shouting "Papa, Papa" to alert others. Anand, a local resident, rushed out with others when they heard the calls for help. He confirmed Chand-ul's account of the explosive sound. He added that the casualties could have been avoided if not for the nonstop rain. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "On a normal day, the people would have left early to collect scrap, but the rain kept them indoors, which ultimately led to their deaths," he said, also pointing out that the wall lacked proper maintenance and had, for that reason, collapsed in the rain. The families, originally from Assam and West Bengal, had moved to Delhi a few years ago in search of a livelihood. They earned Rs 300-400 daily by selling scrap. They also stored the collected scrap in the area before selling it later. Doli and Safiqul were husband and wife, and residents strongly suspect that they were asleep inside their home when the wall suddenly collapsed on their shanty. Residents who rushed to the scene to help rescue those trapped under the rubble described the situation as tragic and heartbreaking. "There was absolutely no chance for them to get out in time just as many other residents had done," one of them said.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, in collaboration with the Forest and Environment Department, Government of Gujarat, will celebrate World Lion Day – 2025 on August 10, 2025, at Barda Wildlife Sanctuary, Devbhumi Dwarka district, Gujarat. World Lion Day, celebrated annually on August 10, aims to raise awareness about the conservation and protection of lions worldwide. In Gujarat, the Asiatic Lion is a unique ecological and cultural treasure, found only in the Saurashtra region. The grand celebrations of 'World Lion Day' will be organised on August 10 across 11 districts of Saurashtra, Gujarat, to promote awareness about the conservation and protection of the 'King of the Jungle'—the Asiatic Lion. The sanctuary is a significant biodiversity hotspot and a key area for the conservation of Asiatic Lions.
